Thank you, that's a great way of looking at it! I definitely tweak things to suit my own needs, and coconut oil is absolutely a part of that.

This one had me going for a full 5 hours so I think I'll stick with it! =)

Some of us use coconut oil and consider it healthy but it is not on the allowed food lists of the South Beach Diet. It's kind of a lifestyle choice. Most of us tweak the diet some to suit our needs.

That being said, Dr.A. does not consider South Beach to be a low carb diet but a healthy carb diet. The diet does not require carb or calorie counting though I recommend both. Depending on how you eat the diet your carb intake can vary. The recipes in the cookbooks attest to that. Some are low in carbs, some higher.

Does the smoothie trigger cravings in you? Cause hunger shortly after you eat it? Cause weight gain? You are the best judge as to whether this fits into your food plan.

Thanks, but I'm actually not concerned about the total calories. Coconut oil is SO GOOD for you and is definitely part of my diet. =) I'm just wondering about how high the sugar is.

The reason the calories seem high is the 1 TBSP of coconut oil (117 cals). Coconut oil isn't part of SBD. Olive oil might be a good substitute. There are a lot of flavored extra virgin olive oils that might add to the taste.

I just "whipped" this one up and it's delicious! I'm attempting phase 1.5, and while I thought there was nothing "bad" in here, once I entered everything in the calculator, the sugar seems a little high to me.
