I love meetup. My volleyball group is from meetup, there are hikers and several fun singles groups. But the cyclists in the group near me always go riding on weekdays during work hours - I don't know what these people do for a living - maybe they just have a long lunch break?

I'd love to ride with a group, serious level A or B. I have a few times with a C/D group, but since majority of them have road bikes and I'm on a comfort bike, it's not easy to stay up with them. I still go on small group beginners rides but they are still pushing about 15mph and I have to struggle to keep up. I still do, somehow. I know once I get a road bike, I'll fly!!
I have a neighbor that rides with me about 1x week. We usually go for about an hour and a half and it's good motivation for me to know someone is waiting on me so I get off my duff and ride.
I meet the beginners group every other week (work schedule) for an hour evening ride.
If you are looking for groups to ride with, all levels, check out the link I attached. Meetup is all over the globe and has varied levels of riders at many too. www.meetup.com

Interesting topic Grebjack! I made it sticky so it will stay at the top of this section for now.

Most of my cycling friends I met through the bike club. Fortunately, I also had a good experience with being accepted as a newbie. Of course most everyone was faster than me at that time. I got a little better last year with a real road bike. I am hoping that the riding I am doing at they cycling studio this winter will help me improve even more. I had gotten to the point where I was faster than the slow people, but not as fast as most of the "fast" people.

I am also very fortunate that my DBF is a cyclist and he knows people in the club too, as well as other friends that cycle and/or run.

When I'm at home, I generally ride by myself, although one of my neighbors told me that she wants to start riding again this spring so we'll see. I also go to my sister's and cruise around with her too. Those are usually just leisurely fun rides.

That stinks Hillslug! I just joined a great bike club - joined for maintenance clinic (although didn't have to). People are so friendly and helpful. Only problem is that it's 25 miles north of me so I won't be joining them on many rides.

I split the time between riding by myself and my friend(s). My friend is slower and I have reached the point in my life that when with a friend I'm with the friend. If I want to go faster I just go out the next day. A local bike shop will be offering group rides a couple of times a week starting less than a mile from me so will probably check them out.

I rarely ride with other people. The people I know are either waaaaaaaaaaaay fitter than me, and I cannot keep up, and they're not interested or not able to keep up or ride as long as I do. I kind of appreciate the solitude, though.

Every now & again I'll encounter another rider and we'll fall into a pace while we're conversing. I like it, because they're usually faster than me and that forces me to work harder than I normally would.

I'm okay with riding with someone slower. The Hubs & I will go out for a ride together and ride for about an hour at his pace, and then I'll take off and do my ride.

There's a local cycling club. I went to one of their meetings and decided it was not a group I wanted to belong to. When I tried to join the conversation, I got the distinct impression they didn't want to hear from me. That's a lousy way to grow your group. Ironically, one of the things they discussed was that the same half-dozen people end up rotating through the club's officer positions. Gee, could it be because you're rude to people who want to join you, and therefore you're lacking new blood?

Do tell - how did you find the people you routinely ride with? Critical Mass? You were friends first and started cycling together? A flier at your local bike shop?

I'd love to find an accountability partner to ride with, but few of my friends ride double digit mileage (or live single-digit miles away from me). Ideas?
