I have downloaded both GIMP and Picasa on my computer due to recommendations I have gotten. I couldn't get anything to download with GIMP, but there was a "download using Picasa" when I put my memory card in, so I used that. It came up with download (or upload), then have to import. I am trying to crop in the editing, but it will show me the crop, then I can't get it to stop moving around on the photo or crop in closer. Can anyone explain that? Or should I go back and delete those and use this basic Windows thing? It comes up to just view the photos rather than an editing program. I couldn't get any closer to get the part of the picture that I am wanting.

Why not install your old copy of Photoshop Elements on your new computer, if you are having trouble learning Gimp?

Thank you for your recommendations. I downloaded the GIMP and installed it, but I cannot figure out how to use it on this computer. I am having problems getting photos from my camera onto the computer. Even though I have the Pentax software installed, it will only let me use Windows or Windows Live and it will not show the icons that way, but I have to download everything. Then, when I open GIMP I can't see where to get the picture from the camera downloaded to GIMP and I could not find how to crop the photo. I am having enough problems figuring out how to move things on this computer, so I think for that I will have to get a mouse. (could not afford a desktop and monitor and keyboard so got a cheaper laptop).

I've been using Picassa also - which has been adequate (and free!!!), but will play around with Gimp!

Thanks for the link. Although I am not real active on this team... I, too, have been looking for a good editing program!!!

I second FinFin -- GIMP is free, runs on MacOSx, Windows Whatever.Something, and Linux. It does most of whatever you need it to do.

I got a new laptop computer (my other computer is OLD and about to go out) and am wondering what people use for editing. I have been using Photoshop Elements, but the new costs $149, which I can't afford. I would like to find something that is compatable with the Photoshop Elements, though, so I can open the pictures I have. Information on other programs would be greatly appreciated.

Darlene
