Thank you. I haven't ever tried a monopod. Sure would take up less room than a tripod.

I use a monopod to pan with and with practice, you can get some good action shots with panning. Some even like them better in that your subject is crisp and in focus while the background is blurred, giving a greater impression of action and movement.

I thought this one was good:

They moved the headquarters for Pentax, then. Maybe that is where Ricoh was in the first place, though. Pentax used to be at Inverness in Colorado, then moved to Boulder.

I still like my camera, though I wish I could afford more lenses for it (longer mainly, so I could get birds and maybe wild animals), and faster lenses since what I have are pretty slow. It's hard to take pictures of cutting at the Stock Show, for instance, with a 5.6 fstop. Might be okay if the cutting wasn't moving so fast.

Here's headquarters in the US:

Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation

Here's a list of authorized dealers:

Buying a camera today is a pretty safe process since whatever you choose from the top names will be a good product. They may each do it a little differently, but in the end, they all produce wonderful images from what I've seen. Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus, Pentax, Leica, Hasselblad, and many others are good old names that build quality products. I won't be surprised to see us lose some of these companies in the next few years, but I'm betting that just like Pentax, they will be picked up by another quality company who will continue to produce the cameras. Camera sales are really off due to many factors and there almost has to be some thinning of the herd of producers out there. At the end that will be good for consumers because most likely those remaining will be selling the best products and a scarcity of buyers will also force down prices.

Thanks. When I got my others that is what they recommended over the others. Most people don't feel the way you do, though. Nobody here carries them, but where have the U.S. headquarters been? Don't know if they still are. I haven't looked them up for awhile.

Pentax is now owned by Ricoh and has been around for a long time and is a highly respected name. Pentax is one of the few DSLR's that have great compatibility with older lenses because the image stabilization is built into the camera rather than the lens like Nikon and Canon. If I hadn't started with Nikon I would probably be shooting Pentax who I always thought gave the most bang for the buck.

I haven't heard of them before. Most of the things I do see will only cover doing things with Canon or Nikon cameras, which I don't have. I got my Pentax because that is what I had before and I didn't have to buy new lenses for it. Of course, now you can't find out anything on them and most people look down on you if that is what you have. I also can't find one lens, so have problems with closer shots. I wish I could afford more lenses.

I will have to check them out.

Guess people on that site didn't have a very good impression of it. I haven't had any problems with it, just can't find things. I didn't pay anything, either, especially since I'm not that good at photography. Wish I could do better and that site might be helpful if I ever read any of their articles.

I really didn't give them much information. Probably just name and email. They have information on how to take different pictures, how to improve your photos. I just kept forgetting about them and now I can't figure out things on there. Somebody from Spark introduced me to the site. Maybe I will message her and ask about it.

I would be wary of giving any info to a site that solicited you that you don't know anything about?

Does anyone know anything about this site? I am on it and just got an email that one of my photos got in the top 20% of some contest (not high enough to really be considered good and I don't know how it got in a contest), but I can't find any of my photos on there. I do remember posting a few, just can't access them.

This is the photo they showed:

Yeah, I can find it on flickr.
