A message from Coach Nicole regarding new SP features.

As you know, we at SparkPeople are very proud of our active and positive Community. We also feel that Community involvement can help you stay motivated, get support and reach your goals. So I wanted to let you know about some exciting changes and improvements we've made to our Community this week.

NEW Blog Prompts
Many SparkPeople members write "blogs" (online journal entries) to share the ups and downs of their healthy lifestyle journeys. Like journaling, blogging can keep you motivated and help you reach your goals. We realize that blogging might be a new concept to many of our members, and that some people may want to blog but aren't sure what to write about. So we've created Weekly Blog Prompts. With one click, you can easily respond to a weekly prompt your own blog and/or read some of the most popular responses from other members! To find Weekly Blog Prompts in the future, go to theCommunity Home page (under the Community tab) or look in Tuesday's Weekly Spark Newsletter.

NEW Blog Redesign
As you can see from reading this, we've updated the look of our blogs and improved their functionality! Now you can post multiple photos on a single blog entry (and they'll show up more clearly than before). Plus, you'll see links to more blog posts to the right of each entry, as well as links that make subscribing to blogs quick and easy! Below every blog post, you'll see two new buttons: "I Liked This Blog" and "Share This Post With Others" (which makes it easy to email or share a blog entry on sites like Facebook).

NEW "I Liked This" Buttons
You'll find "I Liked This" buttons at the bottom of every blog entry on the site, as well as at the top of every Community Message Board thread. Message board posts and blog posts with the most votes will be highlighted for others to read on the Community Home page, which also has a fresh, new look to highlight the best of everything going on in SparkPeople's Community!

We hope you enjoy these new improvements! If you have any questions, please post in the Site/Technical Help forum.

SparkCheers!

From The Coach Nicole 10/22/08

We just launched another exciting email newsletter that will bring contests, product reviews, motivational stories and fitness tips from our coaches directly to your inbox! Our sister site, dailySpark.com brings you fresh healthy lifestyle news each day, and our new dailySpark email newsletter makes getting that news even easier! Plus, this newsletter makes it easy to earn SparkPoints by reading the dailySpark news that interests you most.

Here's what SparkGuy has to say about it:

"The dailySpark offers some of the best and newest information from SparkPeople's experts—all in one place! I'm so excited about this new email newsletter, because it will help our members stay motivated and informed so they can reach their goals. It's one of the best newsletters SparkPeople has ever created!"

What are you waiting for? Here's how you can sign up:
To access your dailySpark subscription page, go to dailySpark.com and click on the orange "Email" button near the top right of the page. Choose "Daily Digest" (to receive one daily email that contains all new entries) or "New Entry Alerts" (to receive an email each time a new dailySpark entry is posted). Click "Save Email Options," and you'll start receiving emails today! And don't worry—we make it easy to unsubscribe if you change your mind.

We hope you'll enjoy this newsletter as much as we do. Sign up for your dailySpark newsletter today so that you never miss a (healthy) beat!

Info from Coach Nicole & Sparkpeople; please read carefully.

This Monday (October 6, 2008), we are launching a new weekly email newsletter that will summarize what happened in your SparkTeams during the previous week, such as message board discussions, new members, and Team goal updates. This will be an easy way for you to stay up to speed with what’s happening in your Team—especially if you prefer to not receive notifications each time a new post is made. You will receive one weekly newsletter for each SparkTeam you belong to.

Because we feel that this will be a very helpful newsletter to members who belong to SparkTeams, we are automatically opting-in members to receive this email. But if you do not want to receive the Weekly Digest email, you can edit your SparkTeam preferences. (Simply uncheck the “Weekly Digest Email” box next to your SparkTeam(s) to unsubscribe.) Also, within each newsletter there will be an easy link you can click to unsubscribe at any time.

We hope you will find this Weekly Digest to be a helpful resource! Look for your first digest this Monday!

SparkPeople update:

We launched a new tool/link on our Fitness Resource Center where you can enter your zip code and to find gyms near you that offer a free pass. To use the finder:
- Click on Healthy Lifestyle, then Fitness
- Look at the end of the center column on the page for the "Find a Gym" section
- Enter your zip code and click search (works for people in US only)
- You'll be taken to our partner Gymticket.com's site to see gyms near you

For full disclosure, note that SparkPeople earns a small amount of money for each free pass people redeem and use.

Updates from SparkPeople….

We're happy to announce the launch of two often-requested enhancements to the SparkPage photo gallery.

1) You can now add up to 50 photos to your gallery, up from 25.

2) You can now also change the order of your photos. Go to Edit SparkPage, the click Edit My Photo Gallery. You can then put your mouse on any photo to move it around the page, and click Save at the bottom left when you are finished.

We hope these changes make SparkPages an even more helpful way to both showcase your success and share more about yourself with other members. Also, keep in mind that if you'd like you can share your SparkPage with friends and family outside of SparkPeople. Just send them the web address my.sparkpeople.com/USERNAME, where you replace USERNAME with your SparkPeople username.

News from Coach Jen.

Hello Everyone!

We wanted to let you know about a new feature that launched today!

You can now add clickable links to your Message Board signature, the same way you add links to your board or blog posts. To change or add a signature, go to edit mode of your SparkPage and scroll down to the "Personal Signature" text box.

This feature was frequently requested by our members, so we hope you enjoy! Also, please remember that the Community Guidelines apply to signatures, so we don't allow any kind of advertising or product promotion.

Thanks!!

If you missed the first airing of SparkPeople members Rosie, Kristin & Kristi being interviewed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (originally aired in January), be sure to catch the rerun today. For information about when Ellen is on in your area, check out the local listings. Rosie, Kristin & Kristi met on SparkPeople, and have been using the site for almost two years. The support, motivation and encouragement that they provided each other through the site enabled them to lose a combined 350 pounds! Be sure to tune-in and tell your friends!

Hi Everyone

We've started to have more of a problem recently with "chain" messages. For example, you're asked to send something along to 10 of your friends, and before you know it you're getting this same message (or a similar one) from lots of different people.

I think a lot of these are very nice, but not everyone wants them. So we're going to ask that people stop forwarding these along- either as SparkMail messages or comments on SparkPages. Please pass the word along to Teams you're on and individuals if they send them to you, letting them know that we're trying to discourage it. Also, if you get one of these messages, please do not "reply all" when responding to the sender, since that just multiplies the emails for everyone else.

If the problem continues, we'll make a formal policy against them. But for right now, we're hoping this will help.

Let me know if you have questions! Thanks!

Coach Jen
