Mystery Bird 7....Baltimore Oriole

Smaller and more slender than an American Robin, Baltimore Orioles are medium-sized, sturdy-bodied songbirds with thick necks and long legs. Look for their long, thick-based, pointed bills, a hallmark of the blackbird family they belong to.

Mystery Bird 6

If youíre convinced youíll never be able to learn bird calls, start with the Gray Catbird. Once youíve heard its catty mew you wonít forget it. Follow the sound into thickets and vine tangles and youíll be rewarded by a somber gray bird with a black cap and bright rusty feathers under the tail. Gray Catbirds are relatives of mockingbirds and thrashers, and they share that groupís vocal abilities, copying the sounds of other species and stringing them together to make their own song.

Mystery Bird 4 was indeed a White-throated Sparrow. Here is a brief description but no picture and words can describe it's beautiful song, "Oh sweet Canada, Canada, Canada"

Crisp facial markings make the White-throated Sparrow an attractive bird as well as a hopping, flying anatomy lesson. Thereís the black eyestripe, the white crown and supercilium, the yellow lores, the white throat bordered by a black whisker, or malar stripe.

Mystery Bird 3 was indeed a Red-breasted Nuthatch. Thanks Maryann2323 and Carolian for the answer and Joyatlast for the guess.

Info:

A small, compact bird with a sharp expression accentuated by its long, pointed bill. Red-breasted Nuthatches have very short tails and almost no neck; the body is plump or barrel-chested, and the short wings are very broad

Mystery Bird 2

The white-winged dove (Zenaida asiatica) closely resembles the slightly smaller, grayish-brown mourning dove. Its name is derived from the noticeable white-marked feathers on the upper wing surface. The tail is shorter compared to wing length, and more bluntly or rounded when compared to the mourning doves' long, pointed tail.

Mystery bird 1 is a Northern Mockingbird. Mimus Polglottos. One of mimic birds and usually repeating his or her song 2-4 times or more. Both males and females sing and often around a street light they will sing into the night. It is found in all lower 48 states, not typically found at seed feeders for this berry hoarder.

New bird tomorrow.

Each Friday I will post a picture of a mystery bird in the photo section of our team page. Use this forum to supply your response to the ID and perhaps a story about your experience with the bird. I will start off easy with backyard IDs and we will see where it takes us.

Have fun with and please feel free to try yourself. Pick your own day of the week and go for it.
