Goals:

1. Commit daily.
2. What does it take. Discipline is remembering what I want the most - good health.
3. Use what works. Reflect daily and improve.

Accountability

2. Walk 1 mile, do 60 min yard/home activity, 30 min yoga for a total of 120 min. (isometrics, zumba, nia, tai chi, hulla hoop)
3. I will assume that I lost 0.1 lbs and my fasting glucose number went down 0.1 each day as the result of my efforts.

What new habits do I need to develop so I can achieve my goals?
1. Awareness - Learn the difference between real, emotional and mindless hunger.

Eat protein at breakfast.

Breakfast is typically filled with carb-based foods—think cereal, pancakes, muffins—but protein helps keep you feeling full and satisfied. The science also shows that weight loss and bone loss typically go hand in hand, which is why increasing your protein at breakfast is really important. “Our new study showed that higher protein intakes can potentially reduce the risk of a hip fracture by 16 percent. Since protein helps with satiety, higher intakes can effectively help you lose weight while keeping your bones strong!”

To succeed: Stocking up on high protein foods like hard-boiled eggs, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt and peanut butter makes it a no brainer to grab-and-go high protein when you’re in a rush. I’ve also gotten in the habit of eating leftovers for breakfast, like leftover salmon in an omelet or a breakfast beef burrito. There is no rule that says you can't have dinner for breakfast!

Creating a new lifestyle.

Accountability (Track progress to stay focused and motivated )
l. When I stick to my plan I know something good is happening in my body so I will assume that I lost 0.1 lbs and my fasting glucose number went down 0.1 each day.

3. Emotional hunger: No. Times I recognized it; No. times I said "no thanks" to it; and what was it that I really wanted. Say no to good and yes to best. H.A.L.T - What do I usually hunger for? Rest and comfort.

According to above link: 98 - 132 lbs is my healthy weight range -- the middle is 115 which is about right for me.

To lose weight you should eat between 1100 to 1300 calories per day
This calorie target will allow you to lose weight at a healthy and sustainable rate of 1 to 2 lbs per week.

As I am never very hungry in the am, I will try for 1100 calories daily:
300 cal for BF
400 cal for Lunch
100 cal for snack
300 cal for Dinner
On the days that I am not able to do much exercise I will eliminate my snack.

addiction - chemical dependence
addictive behavior - habit?

had bf left overs and it tasted so good. enough is a feast
Note satiety levels before and after each meal. Small Matthew size bites stretches time.
They are more enjoyable. Old toast nobody wanted. I put laughing cow cheese and Blueberries on top; cut it in small bites and it was gobbled up. It is easy to say no to food if your mind is elsewhere i.e. Parker. Food taste wonderful if you are paying attn to flavors.
Eat a portion, finish swallowing, do something else, come back and ask if still hungry.
Hunger - body needs nourishment.
Satisfied - body got what it needed. It is a comfortable feeling - just right. Not hungry and not full. Feels so much better than being stuffed.
Need to be in the present so can notice the body's need for nourishment. Have to pay attention.

emoticon Children recognize their body cues.
They live in the moment. They haven't learned to stress or multi-task (do one thing while thinking of something else.
They recognize the different cues - hunger, bathroom. They become mindless when tired.
They enjoy playing and some times would rather play than eat.
They taste their food. If they don't like it, they won't eat it. (toddlers will spit it out)
They know when they are satisfied. i.e. Matthew w/his pumpkin pie

Mindful Eating Goals:

1. Stay in the 1200 calorie range per day
by eating four low calorie/hi nutrition meals (use healthy substitutions and treat meditations)
On the days that I am not able to do much exercise I will eliminate a snack.
I desire foods that will enable me to be healthy and trim.
Nothing tastes as good as feeling healthy and trim.

2. Note satiety levels before and after each meal.
Hunger - body needs nourishment.
Satisfied - body got what it needed. It is a comfortable feeilng - just right. Not hungry and not full.

3. Say affirmations before each meal.

The biggest factor in whether someone gains or loses weight is not metabolism. Your weight loss primarily hinges on your body's daily energy balance — how many calories you are taking in every day vs. how many you are expending.

Recognizing Emotional Hunger
Emotional hunger pounces on you, demanding that it be fed certain foods instantly.
Nutritional hunger politely mentions it would like to be fed, appreciates anything given and waits patiently while you finish what you are doing.

Recognizing when satisfied
Emotional hunger demands to be fed until you are stuffed.
Nutritional hunger needs very little food to be satisfied.

DH cooked dinner and it smelled so good. It also was quite tasty.
While putting the leftovers away, I thought another bite would be good. It was just a thought and I said "no" to myself. It was not difficult as I was satisfied.

I can be very disciplined for a couple of weeks and then I fall back into old habits (invisible masters). With repetition new ways will become habits and I will no longer have to think about them.

I matter and my challenge is to:

1. Eat when hungry
2. Eat what you like
3. Enjoy what you eat
4. Stop when satisfied

What is the healthy body size?
Our perception of the healthy body is heavily influenced by the media.
The media tells you what to think, what to wear, what to eat, what to love, what to fear.

The scale is like a drug
Health is not a numbers game
You are more important than the number on your scale
your weight does not define you
there is more than one kind of beautiful

Diet mentalities are the problem, not the solution

Food is medicine
Diets are restriction of foods
Food is nutrition
so why are we restricting it

start diet - restriction- deprivation - crave - give in - guilt - start diet . . . .
Start a diet, always on a diet, a vicious cycle

Diets are a billion dollar industry
Instead of giving them your money, spend it on pampering yourself

Our focus should be on health, on loving yourself - not on size

Your body is a beautiful machine, treat it with love and respect

Just as each person has their own unique personality and interests
Each person has their own genetic make-up and body shape
Body size is not an accurate indication of health

Embrace health at any size

Health = diet, life style, health care, family history, environment, exercise, stress handling, relationships, sleep/rest, hygiene

practice intuitive eating, enjoyable movement, accepting your body

exercise to be fit, not skinny
eat to nourish your body
and always ignore negativity

Diet Mentality - External rules, rigid, deprived, guilt, fear, pre-occupied, weight loss, shame, judgment, oppressed, in control.

Attuned eating - Internal cues, flexible, satisfied, pleasure trust, empowered, nourishment, compassion, acceptance, freedom, in charge.

Motivation to eat well should not come from a self-hate or peer pressure to fit social standards.

Rather, motivation to eat well should come from the desire to live a life of wellness, pleasure and happiness.

Stop thinking about the perfect body and indulge into happiness.

Don't diet for the moment, eat well for a healthy future. Do it for life!

Physical effect of stress - hair, brain, mouth, muscles, lymph, lungs, heart, digestive tract, immune system, organs, skin bones, joints.

Avoid stress, focus on the mental, social and spiritual well being to promote health and happiness.

My daughter never use to like coffee but she learned to like it on one of her trips to Mexico. Now she claims she can't start her day without her cup of coffee. I am never hungry in the morning but need to eat something with my pills. A cup of green tea with some broth and a piece of fruit works for me. It is never too late to start a new habit.

I forget so easily that I was diagnosed as prediabetic last year. By clean eating I am no longer prediabetic. Losing a few pounds would be helpful and healthy for me.

Keep in mind that even high-fiber foods raise blood sugar to some extent, so you always want to pair them with protein to help stabilize your blood sugar. For example, pair a piece of fruit with some nuts or cottage cheese, serve scrambled egg whites with whole-grain toast, or enjoy a bowl of chili made with beans and lean ground turkey.

When I remember what I really want, it is easy to make healthy choices.

emoticon Here’s the thing...When I’m deciding what I want to eat, I don’t only consider how it’s going to taste — I also consider how it’s going to make me feel — primarily because I want to feel physically well, just like I want to taste yummy, delicious food on my tongue.

How something makes me feel after I put it in my mouth is an important part of my overall eating experience — and therefore an important part of my personal “want” equation.

This, of course, is a balancing act — as sometimes my desire for the taste of something will outweigh my desire to feel a certain way…and that’s FINE.

It is always my choice to do with my body what I want (and remember, "health" is never a moral issue…). But I think it’s worth evaluating what the word “want” really means, particularly if you're associating "eating what you want" with feeling sick.

My true “want” is a product of my holistic values around food — both in how something tastes, and how it feels or affects me physically.

What I noticed today:
1. I had no emotional hunger today. Probably because I am focused and keeping track of each meal.

2.. I had to slow down my eating so I could enjoy my food. Funny how I want to eat and then when I eat, I quickly eat and am usually thinking of something else.

3. I am not sure when I am satisfied. My two-year old grandson knows exactly when he is satisfied. He can be eating and then suddenly stop and will not eat another bite. I guess this is called "listening to your body."

When I remember what I really want, it is easy to make the right choices.

I rarely eat because I am hungry. I have confused wanting to eat something with being hungry.
This morning I wanted a cookie. Although it is a homemade healthy cookie, it would have been extra calories. I gave into the "wanting". I was tired and what I really wanted was to rest.

I had a very light dinner to make up for the cookie. Although I wanted some popcorn I said "no" to myself. It was no big deal.

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice in it!

Goal: Make eating with awareness a habit by May 4th emoticon

Motivation: To be healthy and keep my blood glucose number low.
Added bonus: slim down a bit.

Accountability to help me stay focused:
1. Pace myself
2. Affirmations
3. Meditate
Doing pretty good on the above.

Awareness: I eat very small meals so I can be hungry by the time I eat my next meal. I eat super healthy meals.

I had family over for the weekend and still ate with awareness. In the past I would overeat.

I needed to start reading these before i commented, it also encouaged me to go get some water fast! It's been a hard day! One of my hardest in along time. As I say that though so many wonderful things happened today too! Around it all I am totally mind jacked. I had someone be unusually cruel to me this wk, crueler than I ever imagined, and it just keeps growing, as it's growing so is my body, I just couldn't stop obsessing, playing it out over and over, and eating to calm myself. all the time knowing it really doesn't work, nothing does. So I am going for the water trick and with time hopefully it will work.

I have so many feelings about what happened, fear, anger, feeling of unjustness, saddness for what i am losing, blame and pity etc. I want to cry but i also dont want to get lost in negative, because I just can't figure out how to handle it correctly. Oh well as things have proven in the past, this too shall pass.

My daughter never use to like coffee but she learned to like it on one of her trips to Mexico. Now she claims she can't start her day without her cup of coffee. I am never hungry in the morning but need to eat something with my pills. A cup of green tea with some broth and a piece of fruit works for me. It is never too late to start a new habit.

I forget so easily that I was diagnosed as prediabetic last year. By clean eating I am no longer prediabetic. Losing a few pounds would be helpful and healthy for me.

I too will join this one - I liked the 10 affirmations so I think I will adopt them too. I am at a point where I really need some positive energy moving forward.

After each small, healthy meal, imagine some fat dripping off your body and that you weigh at least one ounce less. emoticon emoticon

Conversely, if you overeat, you weigh 1/2 lb. more. emoticon and will emoticon emoticon later.
