CARROTS! Bags of Baby Carrots EVERYWHERE!
My binges are usually because I want something to chew on. Well, I'd rather binge on carrots than cake, cookies, candy, chips, etc. I found that if I leave bags of baby carrots wherever I would normally go to look for binge foods (kitchen counter, cupboards, on my work desk, top shelf of the refrigerator) I'll usually grab them instead! and, if I'm cooking/baking, I leave the entire bag out to munch on.

It's kind of like playing hide and seek with a bunny rabbit. Sometimes I find baggies of carrots where I forgot I had put them. LOL!

I have established a cut off time for eating/drinking at 9pm. Since my binges most often occurred at night, this has been a big help. Reading or journaling til bedtime usually keeps my mind off food.

1. Having a water bottle by my side at all time. Drinking water keeps my hunger in check.
2. I cook my meals a day in advance and put them in containers so my meals are planned out for the day and my portion size is perfect so i don't over eat.
3. I always keep a spare gym bag with my clothes and shoes in my car at all times so in my daily travels takes me to a place where I can workout, or if i am running late and forget to pack my gym bag i have no excuse not to workout for that day.
4. I plan my workout routine for the week on every sunday.
5. I workout every morning before work instead of after just in case anything is to come up or happen to prevent me from working out that day.
6. Eliminating idle time!

Here's what works for me:

1. Keeping my food journal (a BIG #1!)
2. Drinking tea or water especially in the evening
3. Planning ahead (meals and activity)
4. Putting workout clothes on my computer chair as a visual reminder (and also buying workout clothes helps me feel motivated!)
5. Being kind to myself -- not beating myself up
6. Staying off the computer between 6:30 and 7:30 -- being at the computer is when I tend to eat and eat!

I still need better ways of dealing with my sweet tooth and managing temptation!

A lot has changed but it's different things at different times ~ as I tackle 1 thing after another.

Participating in daily challenges on teams helped keep me accountable and participating ~ what it really helped was to accept and understand how the new activity/behavior helped me, and it helped me transition from a "diet mentality" to creating a real happy making, healthy making lifestyle that I could do and enjoy the rest of my life :)

What have you changed that's WORKING!?

The following are from fellow SP members that I found to be true of myself in this Happy Healthy Lifestyle Journey:

************

Joining Team Challenges. Kept me accountable to others, before I was going solo and it didn't work for me.

Discovering that if I could do a thing for one day, I could do it.

workouts=water & when I stay hydrated I don't binge!

My mood is better, I sleep better, I have more energy & I attribute it all to nutrition & exercise!

I've changed my approach to jogging in between walking. I was never enthused about doing it, but since I've started I feel so much more energized!!!!

Eating more small meals throughout the day instead of just 3 large meals. I have breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack, & dinner.

I'm trying to eat more protein each day. I am usually a big carb eater - but am finding that eating closer to the recommended amount of protein helps me stay in control.

Since I started this journey, I have realized the importance of eating breakfast. It helps me not to overeat for the rest of the day.

*********

what are yours?
