Mugwumps glad the surgery went well. Prayers to her continued recovery.

Sorry to hear all the sickies going around. Hope everyone feels better soon. Rest is best when your body isn't 100%.

I've had a rough few days with my back being out. Have focused on yoga to try to get it back to normal. It's better, but has a ways to go yet.

My youngest got over strep throat last week and now she has a stomach virus last night. She doesn't get sick often and happy to say she is not a miserable patient when she is. Liquids and rest for her today.

I have come to the conclusion that either stress plays a big role on my inability to lose weight constiantly or I need to bump the cardio. Since I really have no control over the stress, I guess I need to opt for upping the cardio this week.

Looooooooong day. Mom came through her surgery well. They got the tumor out but there is still a chance it will come back and she will need more chemo. But for now, she is fine. The drives up and back were miserable! rain, fog and lots of wrong turns.

BathricB, I ditto what Moxy said - if your body tells you to rest...rest. They say your body repairs itself when you are at a rest state, so listen to what your mother use to tell you, and stay in bed...LOL!

BATHRICB- I hope that you feel better soon :) Good luck at the Dr.'s tomorrow :)

SUZZZZQ- I hope that the scale shows you what you want :) If not, you probably lost inches due to the way your clothes now fit :) Don't get too down if the scales don't show what you want though. You can do this! Stay positve :) Oh, and way to go on getting the exercise in today :)

MOXY22- That's awesome that you bought the veggies and dip along with some grapes to freeze. That's a great step that you're taking in your weight loss journey :). Let me know how the frozen grapes taste...I've never tried them before :P lol

SUSANQ123- I'm glad that the wedding went well. I can't wait to see some pictures :) It's also good to hear that you're still going strong no matter what kind of a week that you have :) Go you!

I'm not feeling well either. I'm hoping that mine is a 12-24hr thing. I had to lie down all evening :( Thank goodness I was able to get some cardio in before I started to feel yucky :) I'm hoping that I feel better tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hello everyone!

The wedding was great - we did have a few stumbling blocks beforehand, but it worked out perfectly. I've posted pics on FaceBook, so I will see if I can post some on SP too!

Today is watching the 3 grands - in addition to our 5 yr old - whew, that is some work let me tell you! We enjoy it though.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I know I didn't do that well this week - but I'm still going strong.

Hi,
Busy weekend here! Had a little get-together last night, and it was so much fun! Decompressing now in front of the fire place, snoring dogs, affectionate cats, no telephone...ahhhh.....
I hope everyone's weekend went well...weddings, training, exercise, kids, sickness, and dieting! Let's not forget to enjoy the small victories and be proud of who we are and what we have accomplished!
What a great team!
Here's to a great week!

Sounds like everyone has had a tough week, too. I did too - didn't do as much exercise as I wanted, and gained another pound. Let's all regroup this week!

I took everyone's advice, and bought some raw veggies and fat free veggie dip, as well as some grapes to freeze. So this week I commit to snacking healthier! :)

I'm a bit in the dumps today. I woke up this morning with a really bad cold. I'm trying to stay away from my daughter's as they are only 4 mts and 17mts old. I do not want to give it to them. But it breaks my heart hearing them yell for me.....

I think I have the flu with a touch of strep.....

I'll find out tomorrow as I'm going to see the Doctor about it hopefully in the AM. When ever they can squeeze me in though.....

Checking in real quick, didn't realize I'd missed 2 days.. where has the time gone?? Been keeping up with my exercise, so if the scale doesn't show it at least I should be getting stronger!

One of my first classes is a health class, maybe that will teach me some more good things. Any information can be very helpful when trying to learn a lifestyle change.

Thundercat - it is a bummer getting pulled over - especially with your great history -- but I trust you'll do the inspection to get that ticket ripped up...LOL! Great job on keeping with your focus and not caving in to comfort foods - that takes strength.

Had an awful day today. On top of that I got pulled over this morning. It's quite obvious my mind has been somewhere else for some time. Looks like my inspection has been out since October. First time I have ever been pulled over in 30 some years of driving. The officer was very kind even though he gave me a ticket, I just have to get the car inspected on Monday and he'll rip up the ticket.
It's beena a snowball of emotions all week but refused to give in to comforting myself with food. The exercise hasn't gone so well but I am still happy that I didn't give up on everything.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and focused weekend.

Have a Beautiful Day!

TIGERLILLEE- Hmmmm...I really don't know if Tuesday is the beginning of one week or the end of another. I, personally, would consider it the beginning of another. But that's hard to pinpoint because of the 2-day weigh in allowance. I would say that if you weigh in on Tuesday then it would be the start of a new week as you do you last chance workout on Monday. This is just me saying though :P

I'm so soooooooooooore from my walk yesterday! My shins, things and arm (the one that was holding the dog leash) are screaming at me! It was only a 20 min walk, but I really got into it. I stretched and warmed up before and I cooled down and stretched afterwards. I really need to get used to walking again! My arm is sore because my dog was pulling the whole time so I had to grip the leash with all my might. Not fun. But I'm still glad that I got out for that walk :)

Okay, so I thought I posted here on the same day that I weighed in, but I guess not! (Bummer!) So here's my question: Does a Tuesday post count for the last week or the new week? I ask because if it counts for last week, then I still might be able to pull off the postal bonus since I only missed Wednesday and Thursday. If it counts for the "new" week, then I've already missed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week, and it's too late to get the bonus now. Gee whiz! I'm sorry to be so complicated and technical! LOL.

Anyway, I just wanted to let ya'll know that I had a very bad week last week, and I'm sorry I wasn't around. I am feeling better now, though, and I plan to make SparkPeople and BLC a PRIORITY! I want out of the 250's for once and for all!!!!

Here's to a great Friday everyone!

Good morning everyone. I can definitely empathize with you Moxy, because I do the same thing at night. The TV goes on and my hand goes to find something to eat. It's a bad habit I developed over the years. What I've doing this past week is self-talking myself out of eating. I find it very difficult and it doesn't help when my husband and son are snacking around me (not that that's an excuse for me). I've done very good this week, but it's a constant struggle for me. I found an article that I read everyday in a Dear Abby column several weeks ago (I think it's from Overeaters?)and read every morning. Even though I already do a lot of these, I've have found that it's really helping me. I've actually noticed a difference on the days I don't read it. Maybe it's just a good reminder for me.
Keep up the great work you're doing, you are loosing the weight.

Here it is:

Just for Today: I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once. I know that I can do some-thing for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for Today: I will be happy. I will not dwell on thoughts that depress me. If my mind fills with clouds, I will chase them away and fill it with sunshine.

Just for Today: I will accept what is. I will face reality. I will correct those things that I can correct and accept those I cannot.

Just for Today: I will improve my mind. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration. I will not be a mental loafer.

Just for Today: I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable. I will be kind and courteous to those who cross my path, and I'll not speak ill of others. I will improve my appearance, speak softly and not interrupt when someone else is talking. Just for today, I will refrain from improving anybody but myself.

Just for Today: I will do something positive to improve my health. If I'm a smoker, I'll quit. If I'm overweight, I will eat healthfully ---if only just for today. And not only that, I will get off the couch and take a brisk walk, even if it's only around the block.

Just for Today: I will gather the courage to do what is right and take responsibility for my own actions.

Still haven't read many posts but I will be getting exercise this morning at Curves while my kiddos are at play practice. Scale currently showing a loss but it fluctuates daily. We'll see next week. I am trying though.

Good Morning,
Started my day with my traditional 1/2 everything bagel, and I'm feeling really good and ready to go. Staff meeting this morning, which is always fun (really! it is!), and a long day ahead of pulling books for classroom collections. I consider that strength training: I probably squat 200 times, pull-hold-carry-reshelve lots of little weights (books), lots of bending, stretching, reaching, balancing. I'm always tired after a day like this, but it's hard to say if it's more or less tiring than a day in a school.
Bad part is that I tend to drink evening coffee to perk myself up. Bad.
Later,
Mary Ann

Another good suggestion - thanks! And that one also serves a dual purpose, since I never seem to eat enough veggies. I'm pretty good at snacking on fruits (clementines & grapefruit are my 2 faves right now), but I never really thought of a veggie platter! I am going to add that (and grapes to freeze) to my shopping list for this week. :)

Sorry, I don't have a breadmaker, so can't help you with that! Good luck!

MOXY22- What if you had a dish of cut-up veggies to snack on? And they'd already be prepared so they're easy to grab. You could always have a little bit of dip so you feel like you're getting the calories that you want.

So I went for my walk. I even took my dog too. I usually don't take him with me as he's too strong for me and always pulls on the chain when he gets excited. He usually ends up taking ME for the walk! lol But I love my dog and he looked pretty sad that I was going without him, so I marched right over to him (he's usually outside for the day when it's not too bad out) and said "Do you want to go for a walk?" He started to get all excited lol. So my fiance helped me get him onto the leash and off we went! He did pull a lot, but it was really nice to be out in the fresh air. Yes, it was cold, but it was still awesome. We went for a 20 min walk. I'm going to make it my goal to get outside at least 3 times a week for a walk :) I forgot how much I liked being outdoors and how much I liked walking. This is definitely a welcomed change to my exercise routine :)

On another note, I tried to make bread in the bread maker. We lost our bread maker recipe book so I found a recipe online that seemed pretty good....WRONG!!! It didn't rise very much and was not even 1/4 the size of the pan! It was also cooked too much on the outside and not on the inside. *sigh* and my fiance and I were both looking forward to a nice, hot piece of freshly made bread :( We don't have loave pans so we can't do it by hand...plus I've never been shown how to make it by hand anyways. I guess it's back to the drawing board! Anybody have a Black & Decker (Model # is B1561) breadmaker? It's not quite a 2lb loave pan. I'm up for ANY breadmaker recipes that you may have :)

It's really funny you suggest that, because I am currently working on knitting a baby blanket, and the last couple days I have done just that! Knitting in front of TV. I'm not supposed to chew gum too often because I have issues with my jaw. But I like the frozen grape idea - I will have to try that!

Moxy, If you knit or crochet that will keep your hands busy while watching TV and help you resist the urge to eat since you don't want to get food on your project. If you're not really hungry just eating out of habit chewing gum or sucking on frozen grape can help too.

Thanks Monique and Brandon for the suggestions! Part of the problem this past week was that I made the mistake of buying Special K cereal bars, and ended up eating almost the entire box in one sitting! Usually I'm pretty good about not bringing junk into the house. Today I was back at the grocery, and saw that the cereal bars were still on sale, but said, "No! Don't make that mistake again!"

I have never really been able to identify why I struggle with the late night snacking. I don't really have cravings at all any other time of day. I eat well at breakfast and lunch, and have small, sensible snacks in between. It's just after dinner, watching TV when I suddenly get the munchies. I think it's probably just a bad habit I've developed, where I associate the TV and that time of day with eating. I just need to commit myself to breaking that habit. I've done it before, so I can do it again!

Skay - do you weigh/measure your foods? Good job sticking to exercising and eating well!

Mug - sorry to hear about the online college courses. GREAT job with your weight loss!

Moxy - It's awesome that you recognize an area of improvement. The mind really is a powerful tool in this journey, so stay positive, and try to pinpoint why you are inclined to snack. That could help you overcome it. Any ideas? Bathricb has some great suggestions as well.

LaciJo - sorry to hear about the surgeries your family members are going through. You have a lot to juggle right now. Portion control is a big deal in this process. It's so easy to eat 2-3X more of a portion of something. Try to slowly cut back and you'll soon realize that your body does not need that much food. Eventually, it will be difficult to eat a lot in one sitting. Take it in baby steps. Good job on resisting the extra soda! I have read that caffeine makes you insulin resistant, consequently making you a fat storer rather than a fat burner. I was surprised by that fact and thought I'd pass it along. I usually don't buy it, but then we discovered Diet Dr. Pepper and have bought some. I'd drink it here and then, but have resisted the urge this week, seeing how my weight loss has slowed down some. It looks like you are on the right track, slowly weaning yourself off. Good for you! I know the caffeine addiction can be awfully difficult!

Mac - Hope you enjoyed your relaxing lunch!

Tiff - GREAT job planning to go on your walk. It's raining cats and dogs out here and is cold as heck. It definitely does not faciliate wanting to be out there! I will make it down to the gym though, and before long, I will forget how cold it is outside because I'll be sweating! That always feels good :)

LACIJO81504- Way to go with the no Pepsi! You're doing awesome! I find that it's one of my temptations too, but since the New Year, I haven't been drinking much of it either. You can do this!

So, I'm sitting here not doing much. My fiance and his brother are having a cup of coffee before they go back to working on the car in the garage. So as soon as they finish their coffee, I think I might go for a walk even though it's cold out.

Hello,
Lunch time and I'm about to go heat up my vegetable soup. A few of the girls here went to Subway for lunch today, and that would have been great! But, I just spent the entire morning at an elementary school, reading to the kids in preschool-1st grade, and I am so worn out! They're all so needy, and I give them a lot of myself.
So, a nice walk to the staff room to heat the soup, dig into a good book, and have a relaxing lunch for re-empowerment. Is that a word?
Later, y'all,
Mary Ann

ps -- Tasha: A friend here at work has a similar "problem" with Coke! And I understand completely...if I had to give up coffee it would not be pleasant! Stick with it! You are wonderful for doing so well!

I was so bummed when I weighed in and found that i had gained 3 pounds. My eating has got to change. I'm finding that the worst part for me is portion control. I am working towards giving up my addiction to Pepsi. In the beginning I had caffeine withdrawal headaches. I weaned myself off of it and am doing better now. Last week I only had 3 cans of Pepsi and this week I think I've had 2. However, I am currently on day 2 of no Pepsi at all. Hoping to stick with it. Our first week on here I lost 5 lbs and the only think I changed was the amount of Pepsi I was drinking. I only had 2 Pepsi's that whole week. So it really does make a difference. I have to stick with it. I also need to exercise more. I've been trying to get out and walk but its just sooooo cold outside. Going to try to get a walk in this afternoon when its a bit warmer. I think we are still below freezing. I also have the added stress of my mom being 5 hours away for surgery and one of my daugthers is having surgery on the 2nd to get tubes in her ears. Hopefully all the stress and worry don't have too much of an affect on my weightloss for the week, I'm so anxious to get below 200, its been a lot of years since i've been there.

Julie,
Have you tried substituting your snacks with perhaps healthier ones? I know that was one of my problems instead of going for healthy foods I went for the higher calorie stuff and that's what killed me. So instead of grabbing a ex:ham and cheese sandwich how about something like fruits and veggies, as you can eat 2 -3 times the amount of fruits and veggies as a single sandwich. I hope you find this helpful. Or another trick I've learned from the Biggest Loser Books is to eat every 3-4 hours. Just make sure what every you eat contains at least one veggie and one protein.

I haven't been checking in at all lately, but am starting to slip, so I really need to be here! My partner Mary Ann is keeping me accountable now, so hopefully that will keep me on target and also posting more regularly here!

I've been doing okay with the exercise, but the eating is just out of control. I am constantly snacking, especially at night, even when I'm not hungry. I have to get it under control, because this week I had a 1.4 lb gain! Not good!

It was a stressful week. I was supposed to start an online college program soon but can't scrape together the necessary funds. Very disappointing, but at least I have a job and this isn't required. My weight loss on the other hand continues to go in the right direction. Down 5 lbs since the beginning of January!

Hey All! We have a new week in front of us, so lets make everyday count! I am down 0.6 lbs this week, which isn't exactly reflecting the dedication I have been putting in, but I think my body is started to stall on me. I'm going to keep moving forward and am currently shaking things up with my eating and exercise routine, so we'll see how that works out over the next couple of weeks!

Bathricb - congrats on almost being out of the 400's! That's fantastic!

Good morning everyone. Congrats to everyone for a great week... I know many of us had our ups and downs, but in the end its all about living a healthier life style.

As for myself I feel great at the beginning of the month I weighed in at 427.0 pounds and to date I am now down to 403.8 pounds. I've almost left the dreaded 400 pounds.... It will be great when I do though as I will know I have accomplished one of my mini goal not to mention hurtles in life..... emoticon

Good Morning All! My weigh-in wasnt good. Gained the pound I lost last week. My exercised is good, worked out 6 out of 7 days. Now if I could just get control of the eating, sugar seems to be my addiction.

Soooooo angry at channel 7! Missed most of the last half hour of BL because of stupid election results. 15 minutes of watching people celebrate, really? But my weight loss is going in the right direction. Down 5.4 since the beginning of January and feeling stronger.

Mary Ann-Hope you feel better. That sucks that you seem to always get a headache from work :(

GREENEYES334-I'm also a crazy cat lady, lol. My fiance and I have 3 cat, 2 cabbits (1/2 cat and 1/2 rabbit) and we also have a dog. It's like a zoo in here! But we love it and wouldn't change it for the world :)

Sooo...my day was pretty lazy...again! I did some housework that I've been neglecting (still lots more to go lol!) and I just finished my Tae Bo. I'm upset with myself as I seem to always leave it till the last minute...literally! I finished just before midnight! But I'm not working so it's not that big of a deal. This week, I'm going to try to focus on doing it before 9pm. Also, since I'm not working, I'm going to try to encorporate another workout into my daily routine so that I'm doing more and not on my butt all of the time. I might start walking again since I found my MP3 player. Hopefully it's not too cold tomorrow :P

Have a great week everyone! And thanks for all of the congrats on my loss for the week :) I'm very happy with my progress :)

I took a stray cat in to get spayed, I kept feeding her and I didnt want anymore than her two kittens I already took in too. Just call me the crazy cat lady.

Anyway, I am on a exercise streak... since Thursday, I would like to see how long I can go.

Hello, Team,
I decided to stay home with the headache today, as I am suspicious that working in the department next to the loading dock, in the winter with the garage door closed, might have something to do with having a headache.
Well, it might be that, or it might be that sleeping until 9:30 and drinking hot tea all day has been beneficial.
The headache is mostly gone!
Hurray,
Mary Ann

Hi Everyone,

I'm down 1.8lbs for the week. I was hoping for a bigger # as I worked my butt off...but with such a high # the week before (5.8) I didn't think that it would be higher than 2lbs. All in all, I'm really happy that I'm still losing! emoticon

Here's to another week ahead of us! We can do this!
