From Invincible Living:

"It's actually WHEN you sleep, as opposed to how LONG you sleep, that has the greatest impact on your vitality, health, and healing. Powerful healing deep sleep occurs between ten at night and two in the morning. If you are not sleeping during these times, then all the intensity your body endures each day from work, pollution, and improper eating never gets a chance to get mended. This eventually leads to superficial illness, which isn't necessarily fatal but is nevertheless life sucking and chronic, or can even lead to something that actually is more malignant and carcinogenic. And if you are sick in any way at all and you are on a healing path, then putting yourself to bed by 10 p.m. is a definite must for regenerating your body."

I would like to get in the habit of regular hours of sleep - encompassing the 10pm-2am timeframe - but haven't settled on a good time to start shooting for "going to sleep" just yet. I've built up my sleep time from a horrible very few hours or erratic hours (most of my life) to now longer hours at a time … but nothing is yet regular. I do like waking early IF I've had sufficient sleep. I've often come across that waking "naturally" around 2 or 3 in the morning is the BEST time to do spiritual study, meditation, prayer, etc. in the variety of things I read/reference/study. Why traditionally monks, priests, nuns, etc. do so such early prayer and devotion.

I might start trying to go to bed/sleep at 9 pm and wake anywhere from 2-4 am. I like studying/reading/prayer first thing and rising this early would give me time for that - as well as early morning alone time which I love… and getting my yoga, stretching/strengthening and or walking done before Mr. B gets up (usually around 7 or 8 am). Then my day can start - already having accomplished a lot!

Also - this follows the earth's or nature's "time" (cycles) as well which is something we've lost pretty much these days. But our bodies are still influenced by … particularly since God made it ALL that way.

I need to improve my sleeping habits … they are better currently than they used to be but far from healthy still. I prefer a firm pillow … I need to replace the one I have soon. I'm a side sleeper too and it causes some of my aches/pains … I'm currently trying to learn to sleep on my back but it doesn't last too long - I wake up - and just HAVE TO go to my side to be able to get back to sleep. I've always heard it's better to sleep in a cooler space … I had an uncle who would sleep outside year round on his patio (Arkansas) regardless of how cold it got. I like to sleep with just a light fleece blanket on me or, if warm, nothing at all … although last night I crawled under the other blanket and quilt … it was cold!

I am discovering I fall asleep easier if I read lieu of watching dvds. Also, not eating anything after 6 pm works for me … gives me 2-3 hours (or more) for food to digest before trying to sleep on it - this has helped to eliminate the acid reflux I used to experience (too frequently) when I'd eat into the evening - or worse still - get up and eat during the night. I need to work on going to bed at the same time and rising at the same time … train the body so to speak …
