I would want to be a spokesperson for my faith, as I feel most people's knowledge about Jews extends only to the Orthodox Jews, and I am a Reform Jew. Most people are unaware that just like Christianity, there are denominations in Judaism too, like Protestants, Catholics in Christianity, there are just far fewer in Judaism. Reform Judaism accepts Interfaith marriages and is more progressive and modern than even Conservative Jews. Both the Conservative and the Reform have female Rabbis, while the Orthodox do not.

As far as commercial products go, I won't sell anything I think is a put over on a customer or of low quality, harmful to a consumer. I have two friends who swear by Kagen water, in fact one who is a super salesperson for ANYTHING, had her son selling them. It's outrageously expensive for what it is--it's a con, in my opinion, with very little true science backing it up. Both of my friends who swear by it and pay up the whazoo for it actually are lucky to have had a high school education, no science education at all. I never outright tell them the product is cr-p, but I successfully resisted buying anything without being offensive. It's their money, they are entitled to spend it as they see fit. Not having a large income can be to my advantage--I just say, it's not in my budget!

I have tried to get people interested in SP, but not a success!

Good Question Sharon!
I would definitely be a spokeswoman for Vitamix !... emoticon
And I have been on a number of occasions when I went to Costco and the demo was going on. I started listening to the spiel and could not help but chime in and tell the people listening how much we love our Vitamix.
One was recently and the person giving the demo thanked me while one couple made their decision after I told them why I love ours.

OH, I love Amazon, too. I love my spices (Cap'n 2b dubbed me Spice Girl! LOL) But I'd have to say, if I were to be a spokesperson for a company, it would be Spark People! Just has changed my life around and any opportunity to spread information about SP, I'm on it.

Company Spokesperson? I use to be the local spokesperson for my former employers--but not as in commercials. it was mostly good but we had at least one United Airlines moment - so my view is somewhat skewed.

I guess I would have to say that I could be a spokesperson for Amazon. I use their services so often and they have just about everything a person could need!

Then there is Sparkpeople! I would want to do that after I get at least halfway to goal though! I tell you I don't know where I'd be without the resources and support I find here on SP!

Not sure I could be a spokes person for any product but could be for any non profit group that I strongly support. Also am a cheerleader for people encouraging them to be all they can. One year I led the City where I worked in their United Way campaign with the theme of super hero. I sat on the program review committees a number of years.

More recently I have encouraged people to be involved in Bible study groups. In regards to health I promote SparkPeople.

Favorite seasonings include onions and garlic, celery and celery leaves and peppers as well as herbs such as rosemary and basil and spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon or chili powder and cumin. Of course salt and pepper and lemon or lime juice or vinegar go a long ways to give variety to dishes. Ovcassionaly us more exotic such as ginger, cloves saffron etc. I really have an eclectic palette.

Question of the Day - Saturday 4/29/17

What a product or service do you love so much that you’d happily be that company’s spokesperson?

I love Godiva Chocolate Truffle Coffee. It's rich, chocolatey, and velvety smooth. My favorite cuppa on the weekends . . .

Ohhhhh . . . . let's see:

tumeric - delicious in any kind of chicken (or poultry dish)

ginger - fresh ginger -- great in chicken soup, great w/beef, You can either grate it (peel first with the edge of a spoon) or cut into "coins".

basil - let me count the ways -- in any italian dish; great to use fresh basil leaves w/cut fresh tomatoes

dill - delicious in soups; of course, used to make garlic dill pickles or dill gravy for beef.

garlic - use it in soups, with any kind of meat, but especially good w/beef or lamb

nutmeg - this is so good -- just a pinch on greens, like cooked spinach -- adds a subtle flavor

cinnamon - love cinnamon sticks in any tea. delish!

Love is the root of all things good in life.

QUESTION of the Day: Summer is almost upon us! BUT...what is your favorite cold weather sport? I only did a it a few times, but mind would have to be cross-county skiing.

So, what is it? Curling? Ice Hockey? Skating? Downhill skiing? or jogging or running in the winter (yes, it can be done)? or just walking your dog in the snow or having a snowball fight? OR worse yet...shoveling the snow.

Basil and rosemary I have a small herb garden on the back porch. I also grow thyme, sage, green onion, parsley, and mint. I like the mint in Mojitos among other things! lol

My favorites are garlic, rosemary, basil, Italian parsley, sage, and lemon thyme. I love fresh rosemary on chicken breasts, and lamb. I also use garlic and rosemary for my roasted potatoes. I only use fresh now, and will even make a special trip to the store if I don't have them on hand. Had all of these in my herb garden at one time, but it got taken over by chives, and the winters. So I will have to start again. Might do it this year. I find it just as easy to buy it as needed at the grocery store.

Here's some tips to keep them fresher longer. Cut off about 1/2 inch of parsley bottoms under running water, and place in a tall plastic glass with about 2 inches of water in it. Cover glass and parsley loosely with plastic bag that you had the parsley in. Place on door of refrigerator, and change water every other day. Will keep for at least a week like this.

For all the others I take them out of the plastic containers, and wrap them in a dampened paper towel, and then put in ziplock bag. Check every few days to make sure towel is still damp. Will keep over a week sometimes more this way.

Basil is by far the most "temperamental". Sometimes I have had luck rooting some in a glass of water on a sunny windowsill. The longest it lasted was a couple of months with daily water changes.

Favorite herbs: fresh garlic, I know that is not really an herb. I like garam masala and curry. I use those when I can. I love fresh basil, but I didn't grow one outside last year. Hopefully, this year I will. Lately, I have been using dried thyme leaves, in egg and cheese omelettes.. I like cinnamon and nutmeg in my oatmeal and smoothies. I tend to use ginger too. Italian seasoning blends and cumin, and fresh cilantro or parsley, depending on the recipe. I had been using a homemade salt-less version of sazon in the winter to make soup--it's a Mexican seasoning blend most often used for chicken soup. I like mexican chicken soup because it has garlic in it. I tried to make a vegan/vegetarian version.

Well as Captain said, Italian dishes make for a special meal.
Like tonight I made eggplant Parmesan, and picked fresh basil from our garden, and simmered a nice red sauce using Italian seasonings.
Basil is my all time favorite.
Have also been using a lot of dishes lately using curry which I like a lot .

And especially like lemon pepper on a whole chicken or chicken breast cooked in the slow cooker.

In october a couple of years ago we lost power for a week . my son made a soup out of food that would have gone bad , in the refrigerator and cooked the soup outside on a camp fire so I think we are good here. Me and my husband grilled up all the food in the freezer but we had to get rid of some. our neighborhood helped each other out with blankets or flashlights. we checked on the elderly . I always have tuna some kind of fruit and veggies , frozen fish , chicken pork and steak

Wow...I have a tendency to eat food until there is NOTHING left in the cupboard. Pleased that I still have power, with all these weather warnings! I rely on extra batches of whatever was put in the freezer...right now my emergency meal would be brown rice, cooked carrots, and breaded fish fillets (Gorton's). If I have bread, I usually have at least a nut butter, if not jam as well. Also, nothing beats a bowl of Cheerios with milk and fruit for dinner if I am not feeling up to cooking or that's the only thing left!

Thursday ......... Question of the Day .... emoticon

You are faced with an unexpected challenge.
STORM warnings tell you to STAY inside!! .... (Danger of tornado) (roads are blocked)
You can NOT get out to the store to buy any groceries and can NOT call for a home delivery.{ you do have power }

What do you have on hand that you can fix for dinner tonight? ....

My answer .... ( I also posted on the daily challenge thread)

Ingredients:
One fresh Eggplant {cut into rounds}
Polenta { also cut into rounds }
Tomato sauce { will make an Italian sauce w/ tasty spices }
Top w/ a fresh sprig of Basil from our garden and fresh grated Parmesan
Small amount of crusty bread ... toasted in the broiler .... w/ a drizzle of EVOO.

Then will serve with A hearty tossed green salad ..... emoticon
{ I have a fresh vegetable garden I can pick things from but always have lots on hand }

Oh my yes, weather totally affects my day. I live in Minnesota where it can be in the 70's one day and the 30's two days later. Such a drastic change that it's hard to keep a positive attitude. Those cold, dreary and rainy days make me just want to stay in bed all day!

Interesting! Always have preferred sunny days, being outside. Grew up in IL, and now live in WI where the winters are HARSH sometimes!

Weather affects my mood because I have Meniere's Disease, which means that the weather literally affects me physically, sometimes severely limiting what I can do or even endangering me by putting me at risk for an episode, also called an attack. I am thankful when all that the weather does to me is make me suddenly extremely tired and I have to nap.

Yes the weather tends to affect my mood. Grey days find me drowsy and lazy. Fortunately I live in Colorado and we normally see the sun for a while each day. It is rare for us to have more than 3 or 4 days of grey and usually the sun will peek out a couple of times during those days too! Therefore I remain pretty cheerful all year long! When I do get a little down from the weather, I know it will be only for a very short time and that keeps me going strong.... aside of course from the drowsiness!

(about weather) -- yes. I too grew up in sunny CA. I have lived in cloudy/rainy Eugene Oregon, Louisiana, West Virgina, Illinois, and Kentucky....but no matter where I go-- It takes extra effort to keep my spirits up on cloudy days (especially the third or fourth in a row). I was spoiled growing up.

looking for friends to connect with, get to know, and encourage each other along this journey. :-)

(from yesterday)Julie I TOTALLY agree with you, I feel the same way when I hear a friend or relative talk about someone's weight, it automatically raises a red flag with me that makes me wonder what they say about ME when I'm not around.

Weather absolutely affects my mood. Far more now than it used to. When the barometric pressure changes I almost always get a headache that lasts for many hours and into the next day, so I am not a fan of rainy weather. But whenever the sun is out, it automatically feels good to my soul.

I agree that manners are what counts. Once had a client say yes ma'am to a male judge who was normally a stickler for proper courtroom decorum. He let this pass knowing the youth was trying to show respect as another judge in the region was female and he was not being flip. Both got an A+ from me.

Weather is a factor on my mood. Love love day's of sunlight. Not bad to have one or two days of rain but once went about 28/30 days. Almost everyone was dragging.

I will be honest and say "yes". Was born and raised in California; a sunshine girl who loved the outdoors! ..... emoticon ..... We live in the Pacific Northwest, and while it has much beauty and places to go, with the Ocean only one hour away, I do like sunny days.... emoticon ....

I don't 'fall into depression cos of it .....it is what it is ...... But funny how our little baby bird even responds to the weather. ... His cage is by a window and on sunny days, when I open the blinds and he sees it is sunny, he is hopping all over and singing the sweetest little song. On rainy cold days ... he is more quiet until I provide other stimuli for him.

Q of the day (till the "tagged one" comes out of the wood work) emoticon

Does weather affect your mood?

YES! Winter is always a little rough as the days are short. Lack of sunshine is an influence on my mood for sure.

The lengthening days now have boosted moreale! That's a good thing.

Am in agreement with pretty much everyone's beefs. Weight is, and always has been, an issue with me. Even when I'd lost it all for a couple of years.
I especially hate when in a room full of people and someone near me says something derogatory about a friend, or even someone they don't even know, with weight issues. Makes me wonder what they're saying about me.

I am guilty of saying "no problem" at my office. I guess I say it rather than "my pleasure" because a lot of times it is NOT my pleasure, lol, but I want the patient to know that I am glad they asked for what they needed.

At the bank today (4pm) I said, "enjoy the rest of your day!". In that context it makes more sense right?

Last month it was about 44 degrees out and there was a baby (maybe six months old) in a carriage. We were all on the train. The baby had no socks or shoes on! It was 44 degrees and the baby had bare feet! But I held my tongue for all it was worth, because I still remember, 31 years later, how inappropriate women were when they told me how to care for my daughter (walking the same block I could have two ladies who would say she was dressed too warmly and the other would say so needs more on!) how inappropriate their interjections were.

Forgive me for being a language geek...

Here's an article about the whole You're Welcome/No Problem debacle, from a more linguistic approach.

Full disclosure: I'm an older Millenial, and I say "no problem."

You're welcome, it was nothing, no problem, my pleasure... I really don't care, as long as someone is nice.

Which brings me to my favorite hot button issue...

I know ladies ...... I began working at 16 as a store clerk and I always thanked the customer, realizing it was because of them, I had a job! ..... { I never expected them to thank ME! } .... I swear if I were an owner, and am employee said, 'No problem" .........I would take them off privately, and instruct them on policy. If they continued, then I would give them their final pay check!

The other one that is perturbing is ......... when again, you buy something (always seems to be a younger person) ... they conclude by saying, "Have a good REST of your day." ..... (sometimes it is as early as 8:00 a.m.! ........ What is wrong with saying, 'have a good day" and leave it at that? ........

And yeh, Barb ..... I agree, when someone commits they need to stick to their word and DO IT! .... ( and take care of those folks at the care center who are dependent on them! ) .........WOW ...........Didn't today's Question start a firestorm? ...... emoticon
