When I started tracking my calcium years ago it was an eye opener to me, too. I alternate between two different multis. One for women over 50 and another one that is for active metabolism. My active metabolism one doesn't have the calcium that the other one has. Also, I realized that even with the calcium chew at the end of the day, I still can't rely just on supplements, but have to eat some foods rich in calcium. Some days its a challenge to get my calcium in.

This was a real eye opener! My women's multi only gives me 45% of my daily requirement and according to SP, I was only consuming 700-800 mg per day.

This was eye opening for me. Looks like most days, with my yogurt and cheese as a snack, I do get enough calcium -- glad I know that.

Check and see if you supplements are listed with the tracker. I put my multi and viactive into the tracker and they are listed. If not enter it like you would any food not listed.

I'm home from work today due to feeling under the weather since yesterday. I just got out of bed a little while ago and figured I'd catch up on emails n such. Here's an article that was in a daily Spark email last week:

So how do we track calcium when we are taking supplements? I didn't count my supplements when I figured my calcium over the weekend. Thanks for any help.

I've always suffered from low calcium, so years ago I was put on calcium supplements, as my bones tended to fracture rather easily ( both arms at different times, nose twice, two toes, sternum). These days I take two calcium, magnesium and zinc tablets, which give me 92%, so I don't need to eat too much calcium-rich food to make it up, although I do enjoy many of the veggies listed, particularly leeks and avocados. I find that exercising daily is of course also really good for strengthening my bones. In fat, it's nineteen years since my nose was broken, thanks to my ex and his fist, so I must be doing something right!

Most days my calcium is above 100%. I only eat 2 servings of dairy daily. I guess I eat a lot of vegetables and other foods with calcium.

I aim for 150% of calcium. I take a calcium chew before bed (viactive) and I take a multi vitamin with calcium earlier in the day. Also, I eat foods that have calcium, but I sometimes fall short in that area.

As I understand it the RDA for women 50+ is 1200 mg which is 120% and under age 50 is 100 mg which is 100%.

I started taking calcium tablets this week. Thurs. I found out I have to leave milk alone (allergic). But I will continue to put a little milk in my coffee but I am ok with not having `milk`. I haven't missed it yet. Taking the supplement I know I am getting enough calcium, regardless of what else I am consuming. In the past I had a glass of milk with each meal, and now it`s water., so quite a change.

I'm never very good at calcium. I do have trouble understanding the nutrition tracker for calcium. I'm supposed to have 130-150% due to osteoporosis. Is that RDA? How does that transfer to mg? At my age I'm supposed to have 1200 mg a day. Milk makes me feel nauseous and always tasted like it's about to turn sour. Guess I need to keep a copy of that veggie list and work harder at getting it in that way. I take a multi-vitamin for 50+ people and I take magnesium to help me absorb the calcium better.

Thank you for the list Joyce. I didn't realise that almonds and pumpkin seeds were high in calcium. I did know that green veggies are good and that the calcium in them is actually absorbed better than in dairy. I grow bok choy year round. I will have to look up asparagus since it coming on like gang busters so we are eating it a lot right now.

I was surprised to see my calcium intake so low yesterday. I had eaten an orange and drank 10 ounces of OJ, but it was only 20. Looking back at my week I noticed several days when my calcium had spiked significantly. Those were the days I ate black-eyed peas, or beans. They are PACKED with calcium. I had been avoiding beans and black-eyed peas because I thought they were too starchy. But the media has been giving carbohydrates a black-eye, lately. (excuse the pun) The high calcium and fiber make BLACK EYED PEAS a welcome addition to my diet!

I don't do very well with the calcium. Very low. I don't do dairy. I suppose I should be supplementing.

emoticon I'm glad we're monitoring calcium this week, thank you! I know it is important, but not one I normally keep track of. I take a multi vitamin daily, I'm curious to see how I do. I've never been a milk drinker, but recently started enjoying a glass of soy or almond milk daily.

Do you usually get enough calcium in your daily diet.

Do you have any tips to share.
