Cant always walk for more than 10 minutes at a time. Then the body weight moves I did worked well but if I do 10 minutes in 2 sessions my metabolism goes up twice.

And ten minutes can be magical. Kind of like stopping after eating one potato chip. Do we always stop on the dime when we reach ten minutes? Usually not.

when watching tv, I use our stairs during commercials for at least 2 programs.

4 minutes of commercials x 4 times/show = 16 minutes extra exercise... my legs can really feel it, and this is one of the methods which helped me lose 5 lbs. in the past month.

On Saturday and Sunday I make sure to do 10 minutes of exercise or more usually .

Monday - 90 min, two classes
Tuesday - 45 min class
Wed. - 15 min. - errands (or more)
Thurs. - 45 min. class
Fri. - 45 min class

Most days I do some form of exercise. Sometime I may miss a class if I have appointments.
Trying to stick to my schedule each week. It pays off if I eat less calories too. LOL..... emoticon

my exercise schedule is posted above my treadmill in the exercise room. Too far from town to make it to a gym..but can get a good workout at home! Plus got those country roads to walk on..more of a challenge then level city streets I think.
No matter where you walk just keep emoticon

I exercise at Curves atleast four days a week a thirty minute circuit or sometimes forty minute class. Walk around my neighborhood when weather is good . Ive been trying hard to get in more steps. I own a fitbit so that helps motivate me.

Totally agree....ten minutes usually leads to more! I like to think that even on my worst days, ten minutes of effort and keeping that promise to myself to do so, boosts my motivation and feeling of accomplishment to keep on making good choices.

Since Having some health issues with OA and my back and rt leg, have ITBAND syndrome......so my exercise has slowed down some days. Hope tues the PA gives me some good advice as to the pain and how to get rid of this......
otherwise try to keep moving in other ways the days the pain is too much to go to the gym.
Plan to do anywhere from 10-30 minutes today exercising in some way.

Do you find yourself wishing for a day when keys to houses, cars, and offices are obsolete, replaced by a high-tech solution to locking and opening doors? Until then, we all have to remember where we put those keys—several times a day. If you find yourself misplacing yours or if you struggle with other day-to-day memory-related tasks, physical exercise may help. A growing body of research has explored the brain-health benefits of moving your body on a regular basis. And while much of it has focused on how regular, moderate to intense exercise can boost your brain power, a new study suggests that even 10 minutes of light exercise can offer immediate benefits. The research focused on the hippocampus, an area of the brain involved in the creation and storage of new memories. As we age, the hippocampus begins to shrink, and it deteriorates severely in people who go on to develop Alzheimer’s disease. Among a group of 36 healthy young adults, doing a mere 10 minutes of mild exercise (such as yoga, tai chi, or walking) led to stronger communication between the hippocampus and another area of the brain linked to memory. So even short bouts of gentle exercise may help you stay clear-headed during everyday tasks. Take breaks from work, studying, or lounging around to get up and walk around the block or up and down a hallway. Take a tai chi or yoga class so you have that in your movement and relaxation toolbox, too. You may feel sharper and more productive, and your keys may stop wandering off so often!


The best cure for stressing is to count your blessings...and a long walk won't hurt either!

I agree with you 2B, and being married to you, I have seen you magically turn 10 minutes into 20-30 or 40! ... Ten minutes is great to commit to on those days you do not feel like it.
Start with 10 and see what happens! (with any goal)

I love Spark Guy's ten minute plan! Today it was gray and dreary and I felt as drab as the weather! BUT I reminded myself ..."Just do ten minutes!" I like the idea of 10 minutes as it doesn't overwhelm me and gives me control if I want to add more or end it at 10 minutes. Today it was 24 mins of walking and 35 minutes of stretching and yoga. Feeling accomplished!

My 10 minutes started as that by taking the recycling to the garage .. it ended 2 hours later after rearranging the garage.. starting a fire in the wood stove in the shop and burning old scraps of wood and sorting tools that lay out !

This so works!! Yesterday, my plan was for a nice oceanside walk with Mom. It was too cold. When we returned home, there was so much to do I totally forgot about exercise. When I remembered, it was too late to go out. Then, I thought, just 10 minutes. I got creative with was available to me. Inside. Long story short, I met my goal of 10 minutes and exceeded my goal of 7500 steps.

I am so glad I read that article. I am empowered by it.

I love reading Spark Guy's blogs and revisiting this thread and remembering 10 minutes can be so powerful bc ten often turns into 20 and more! (even if 10 minutes, a good habit is being cultivated! ......... emoticon Spark Guy!!! .......... emoticon

It is so great to have these resources here, so easy to find. I just encouraged myself by revisiting this article be Spark Guy. I've had a cold this past week and am struggling with energy. But I am going to lace up my shoes and get out for at least 10 mins run. And if I can't run, I will jog or walk.

Thanks DONNA, Yes, it is amazing and at the same time, I am always surprised at how fast the 10 minutes expires. By doing fun activities within my 10 minute time frame, it reinforces that I can do so many exercises as well.

I am also working on creating an "Active Lifestyle" rather than focusing on exercise. LOVING this CHALLENGE. And, really appreciate your encouragement. emoticon

emoticon Spark Guy, I'm excited to see this Topic: I have been excited to share my experience with you. Not long ago you mentioned in a blog that you had set your timer for 10 minutes and then proceeded to do as much as you could get done before the timer rang. I tried your Challenge and WOO HOO!!! I was motivated and excited about this game, and I found myself running from room to room in my apartment and was able to clean both bathrooms ( they are small), one load of laundry in the wash and I turned up the music so it was a party and dance fest for 10 minutes. emoticon

Lori I'm glad to hear that you are willing to give the 10 minutes a try. I agree it sounds like that would never work, but this team has proved that it can work and as SPARKFRAN514 said sometimes it leads to more minutes. Do what you can. Check out our videos there are several that are only 5 or 10 minutes long. As long as you are moving you are exercising!

I also laughed at the 10 fitness time tried it on Sunday buy the end of the day i had 60 minutes ! i also did my regular 45 mins but needed to prove to my self 10 min is a good for us they do add up at the of the day .

It's taken me a long time to accept the 10 minutes of fitness works. Too often, I have decided that if I can't do a long workout, I won't do any. Now I'm morbidly obese and working out is hard. Now I'm doing 10 minutes at a time. Sometimes I can do more. Sometimes I can't. I'll keep getting stronger bit by bit.
