My experience is similar. Learned using reference booklets from my medical group and did all calculations on paper. Stopped tracking = gained weight.

I was leery of using a computer and inexperienced when I started on Spark 12 years ago, but learning how to use the Spark nutrition tracker and building my list of Favorites is the best thing I have ever done for my health.

I keep my tracker private so I am free to be completely honest about what I eat and drink: accountable only to myself, no shaming or guilt.

Tracking is key for me. During the day knowing I have to look good on my tracking records help me to think about how many freggies I will have and I want my pie chart to be within the percentages recommended.

Tracking is key to my weight loss and especially when I first lost 30 lbs at Spark. I gained when I tried to not track. I now track daily, no matter what. Sometimes it's just an estimate, but I am still tracking. I track before I take a bite at meals. I scan with my phone when I can before I sit down. I'm a slave to my tracker, but that is okay.

I am nutrition tracking since Jan. 1st, every bite good or bad. In time the magic of nutrition tracking happens and I make better food choices. I can't lose weight without tracking and I am losing weight this year.

When I first started with SP, it was only the second attempt - first true attempt - at losing weight. I used the tracker every single day. However, now 11 years later, I mainly track on paper if it's part of a challenge or I feel like I'm getting off track. Mostly I plan my meals accordingly and track in my head.

At the beginning of the challenge for this week, I used the SP tracker and found that I am still in my healthy ranges. I have had to increase my intake due to breastfeeding, and I have done that very well. I am now back to using paper since I need to track for the challenge. It is just faster for me.

I use both paper and Spark tracker. I haven't done Spark lately, but will get back into it as soon as life slows down a bit. It's a lot easier carrying around a little notebook and pen since I'm not into Smart phones or mobile devices.

I have used the SP Nutrition tracker for years. I find it easier to avoid snacks if I have to log them.

Have been working to follow the Weight Watchers Freestyle program, which is quite effective when I'm CONSISTENT! I use the WW tracking app, which is easy to use and especially easier on my phone, etc. Sigh...the older I get, the lazier I get! emoticon

I use Spark to track when I'm really working at it. Have been at it again for the past couple of weeks, but dropped off during our crazy ministry weekend--that is honestly usually what derails me. Back at it today. Hubby gets aggravated when I'm tracking, but I think he's finally appreciating the benefits.

I've tracked for a long time. Well when I want to actually lose weight I track. I have a bad habit of saying what's the use and throw in the towel and stop tracking and walking. However each time I've done that I have come back heavier and more out of shape.
So back to tracking. It works but you have to do it. Funny thing I keep seeing the following statement the last few weeks. " Consistency is the key!"

I started out using paper for years but switched to an app I could use that didn't require me to be on line or only minimally.
The app I used most often is Lose it. Works great for me but again I stopped.
This challenge I am giving the Spark Tracker a try. I have not been consistent yet. Now is as good time as any to recommit!
Off to track today.

I track everything using Spark People, and my fitness Pal. Using both keeps me on track.
Tracking only takes a few minutes when you use these apps.

Sorry Ceri. No bread crumbs for this girl. I’m gluten-free. lol. Well, maybe just to sprinkle on the ground. Good luck with your tracking.

Midway into week 2, how are you doing with Nutrition Tracking?

Tracking the foods we eat has been mentioned by challenge members as the most important habit to help them lose pounds. Whether you use the Spark Tracker or some other method, there is something motivating about seeing what you ate at the end of the day.

For me, I’ve been tracking on paper since the early 90’s when I was a TOPS leader. Tracking on paper was part of my job when I worked for Penn State Extension. Since my retirement, I have slowly changed the way I track on paper from adding the nutrients to simply knowing them in my head. I realized during the winter Challenge my head doesn’t seem to hold the knowledge it held for all those years.

Track is a verb. Hunt and pursue are synonymous with Track. I like that. As we track our nutrition we are in “pursuit” of our goals. We “hunt” for a meal plan that will provide the nutrients our body needs to function at our best.

If we lose the trail, we get off track. Maybe we can leave some bread crumbs along the way to help us get back on the track to success. I plan to start today to track everything in the Spark People Tracker so I can see at a glance where I stray. I am determined to stick with it.

Have your best day!
