Topic #3 ~ Healthy Eating & Nutrition Plan:

Check list:

Do you know what diet you will follow? I've had some success with Keto although I don't care for some of the limitations. I continue Keto most of the time, but I continue to research plans that fit with my lifestyle - and find what works for me. (I don't believe that one 'cookie cutter' eating plan works for everyone - we are all individuals and we all have different needs ... and achieve outcomes differently.

Found some recipes? DH does most of the cooking as he is retired (he works a P/T job but most of the time - he cooks. He enjoys it and has time. We both need to watch what we eat so we are beginning to talk about this topic once again and come up with a working plan together.

Grocery list? / Shop? Since DH and I are home alone (we have an empty nest - except for the dog, LOL). We do 'big shopping trips' every now and again, but for the most part, we shop as we need to.

Do you have the food on hand to get started? Yes!

Have you followed this diet before? Yes.

Did you clean up your kitchen? It is a work in progress.

I will continue to follow a Mediterranean plant-based diet, and attempt to keep my diet low in FODMAPS.

I will shop weekly for fresh fruits and vegetables as available in local markets.

I have a wonderful supply of fresh dry beans and lentils around which to base main courses.

I will continue to cook from scratch as often as possible, and limit restaurant meals.

I will add fresh lean beef and other meats to maintain adequate levels of hemoglobin for blood donation.

Not really a specific diet. Will be eating more Vegetables. And using fruits (berries) for sweets. Sugared desserts emoticon are my downfall. So staying away from them. I will make grocery list and will shop on the day before the challenge that starts on 10\5. Thanks emoticon I will try and figure out how to post diet plan on spark page???

My DH eat out all the time. So I go with what is healthy on the menu. I am learning to eye ball and get portions close. If I am unsure I add to rather than not putting enough on there.
I am working on getting more fruits and veggies in!!

Do you know what diet you will follow? I don't really follow a specific diet. I just eat less as the day progresses. I tend to eat more for breakfast & lunch and less for dinner and I don't eat after dinner.

Found some recipes? will have to look for some new recipes to try, being picky i have such issues with new recipes, but I will work on this.

Grocery list? we get a lot of meat and then go a couple times a week to replenish our organic freggies

Shop? i guess i answered that in the grocery list.

Diet Plan and Commitment:
The diet I will follow is the Keto Diet, which has worked well for me in the past as long as I work the diet. I have a couple of cookbooks and have found loads of recipes online that I have tried and would love to try. I will meal plan and make my grocery list from that. I will shop when it's needed. Right now I DO have good foods on hand as I am currently doing the Keto diet. I'm in the process of purging/de-cluttering cabinets in my kitchen and the pantry will be next!

Do you know what diet you will follow? Yes. I count calories. I do not eliminate food groups. I try for moderation and balance. I eat three meals a day. I am not a snacker.

Found some recipes? I will use my crockpot more with the cooler weather and because I am back at work. I like salsa chicken and vegetarian chili are a couple recipes I use a lot. I bring my lunch to work. I aim for a couple meatless meals every week.

Found some recipes? I have tons of recipes, but I liked the idea about putting the ones I will use with my menu plan for the week.

Grocery list? Yes. I do use a grocery list since it stops me from buying foods I don't need.

Shop? I shop about every 3 days to avoid throwing food spoilage.

Do you have the food on hand to get started? My frig is bare right now since we are leaving for a 2 week vacation tomorrow.

Have you followed this diet before? Sort of. I struggle between the No S and WFPB w/ lower carbs.

Did you clean up your kitchen? I do not buy junk/processed foods so my cupboards usually look pretty bare and my frig is always jammed packed!

Did you post your 5% Challenge Diet Commitment on your Spark Page? My fitness commitment was already in place, but I did notice I need to update my diet commitment - heading that way now!

Iím on portion control since mum 88, still does all the cooking in our house because itís something she is still able to do. We eat mainly 1950s style.

I do do the heavy housework and keep the garden

Do you know what diet you will follow? Yes, a combination of a lower fat Keto and Paleo, it may sound weird, but it is what works for me. I tried strictly Paleo, which is what my doctor wanted, and I just couldn't do it, but the lower fat Keto, I did great on and lost weight. My doctor wants me getting about 65-75g of protein a day, so one meal is a high protein chocolate shake with frozen strawberries in it to actually make it palatable.

Found some recipes? Yes! I have a Korean Paleo book and can't wait to try some of the recipes, I also have Pinterest boards for both and have favorites I can turn to as well.

Grocery list? Yes, I have several items that stay in my pantry and fridge now, so I'll always have at least something sweet and something savory to make to eat. I make an apple bake in advance that is Paleo and put it in the fridge so I can cut it in half and heat it in the microwave for when I have a sweet craving. Yum!

Shop? I have my favorite store 10 minutes from us, and DH does most of the shopping (I can't drive due to seizures) and it's on his way home, we have a shared grocery list that I keep up to date. And I am ordering a cooler backpack so I can walk to the store that is about 3/4ths of a mile from us and walk back once my knee is feeling better to get things that I may run out of and not want to wait on, like veggies or fruit. It's not as good a grocery store, but has the basics.

Do you have the food on hand to get started? Not yet, but most of the basics are in the pantry and we will be doing our two week shopping trip this upcoming weekend (I have enough to last till then) and I'll be planning my meals in the meanwhile. I do have enough for this week, or can make a quick walking trip to the nearby store if I need more veggies

Have you followed this diet before? Mostly, I thought I was supposed to be doing the lower fat Keto plan, then my doctor told me to lean more toward Paleo. Looking at what I was doing I kinda was, but stricter Paleo just is too much for me. So I've done close to this meal plan, and it worked, I lost a lot of weight.

Did you clean up your kitchen? Working on it!!

I was thinking of the whole picture when I wrote it (I have not been sleeping much so a lot of time to think and write! Don't worry, working on the sleep thing with my doctor, so hopefully will be taken care of soon, chronic insomnia sufferer)

Do you know what diet you will follow? I don't really follow a diet, but will get back to counting calories here on SP. Being here for so long and knowing what works, we know how to incorporate more veggies in our meals. I do need to go easy on the bread.

Have you followed this diet before? This is what has worked for me since being on maintenance. When the clothes feel tighter I lower the calories per day.

Itís time to decide what diet you can follow for 8 weeks. Your diet will determine what you eat, how often and how much. There are many to choose from - Spark, South Beach, Weight Watchers, American Heart Association, Diabetes Diet, Dr. Oz, Mayo Clinic, Mediterranean Diet, USDA Diet, Canada Food Guide, Dukan, Paleo, The Full Plate Diet or whatever else you choose. Everyone is different and you need to have a plan that works for you, with food that you like. Browse online or at the library for new recipes and have them ready. Regardless of the plan you choose, follow the set of standard guidelines recommended by the plan.

Have your fridge and pantry ready with the food you need. Find the measuring cups and food scale and have them handy. Declutter your counter, clean the fridge and be ready to make nutritious meals. Go through the kitchen and if there is a food you should not eat make a donation to the food bank, and throw out junk food. If itís not in the house you wonít eat it. Eat wisely and 8 weeks from now you will thank yourself.
