I read 'em all, Moby. I was interested in running until the hip replacement 6 years ago. The MD told me in no uncertain terms that running was now out, Too bad.....IMHO there isn't a better aerobic activity out there...

Looks like there isn't much interest in running events on this team, but just to document my results for when I look back next year:

Finished the 2012 Race with Grace 10K in 43:05, a 47 second improvement over 2011. Took 4 walking breaks, at 21 minutes, 4 miles, 33 minutes, and 40 minutes. Averaged 6:57 per mile, including the walking breaks.

One of the many ideas SparkPeople has for making holidays healthier is to enter a race on Thanksgiving day. The big one locally is the Webster Turkey Trot: www.yellowjacketracing.com/webster-t
ur
key-trot

The Turkey Trot has distances of 4.4 miles and 2.5 miles. Last year, 4.4 miles sounded nearly perfect for me; but I got scared off by the reports of over 4000 runners in a park in Webster with limited parking. This year, it's one is capped at 5272 entrants. I have no idea how the organizers came up with that number, but it looks like there will be a bigger crowd than I want to deal with. Today's report has 4509 registrants already.

The smaller local event is the Race with Grace: www.gandtathletics.info/race-home

I ran that one last year, and happened to finish first in my age group. IIRC, there were about 1200 registrants, and there was enough parking to handle the crowd. I'm committed to the Race with Grace this year at my daughter's request (father-daughter team), but I'm not in shape to run a full 10K right now. So I'll do run/walk intervals, planned as run 4 minutes, walk 1 minute. I should get through it in under 50 minutes, but not be in contention for an age group award. My primary goal is to have fun without making my bad foot enough worse that I have to take time off from regular running. (Okay, right now "regular running" is run/walk intervals as I build back toward being able to run continually.)

I thought I'd put this out here and see if there are other Rochester Sparkers interested in running, or even walking, a few miles on Thanksgiving morning.
