Sparkinon - An alternate in current times I would just use as a free choice.

The Popsugar challenge is pretty personal. They have a team on Goodreads and they do also read a monthly title or theme. I can't remember the details. I'm one that likes to see what I have that fits the prompts from year to year (or that I have on my TBR list. Sometimes I base my reading schedule on my life schedule. For example, I do NaNoWriMo in November so I tend to pick shorter books for that month. Or when I go camping, I don't like to bring library books, so I use my own books for those months.

We did have themed reading once, but it was years ago. I can't recall exactly how it went and I don't recall why it was stopped. Now we just take suggestions and vote. That said, many of us use the "books read in the month of " thread in the general section, to list, review, and rate books. I've found some books I'd never have read if it weren't for the information others have posted there as well as our monthly reading titles.

A land more kind than home

(after reading the reviews for each book - I decided on this one!)

Neither of them are available from the UK library ebook service, but it's available on Kindle.

Tomorrow, when the war began - is the first in a 7-book series!

CDCSmith2013/Cheryl - I agree with you! Also, "alternate" sounds interesting! Is that an alternate book to read when not being able to get the books suggested/voted for in the month? Or an alternate way of doing things for the month, until life is a lil more pre-cv?

Noticed there is a "Popsugar Reading Challenge" going on (never done one before). What if one of those prompts could be used as a monthly theme? Would that help out members taking part in it, to have other members doing one of the prompts too? Maybe if a number of different books come up for the one prompt, the challengers can get some feedback from other members of what books to read next, if they can be used for other prompts also in the challenge? (Hope that makes sense!)

I'll be honest, I'm a little concerned about getting a copy if the library doesn't open soon. I'm too cheap to buy books unless I'm pretty certain I'll want to keep it. ;) Some libraries have online resources. I've been able to get some that way, but neither of these are available that way through mine. Yet, they have physical books of both titles. I think there may have to be an "alternate" until libraries are open again.

this is a good time to own a Kindle. I guess you could order one from book stores or Amazon. I also buy used books thru "bookfinder 4 U"

Hello bookclubbers!

Thank you for explaining how the book club voting system works, sounds like a good way of doing it, thank you for organising it!

Reading choices have changed here too (in Australia) with libraries still being closed. (Can't place holds on titles yet for any future re-openings - thought it was worth a try though!).

My vote for June is "Tomorrow When The War Began", John Marsden (due to availability).

Am writing all the other suggestions down for future reading options though, they've all sounded good, thank you all for suggesting them, they are ones I hadn't heard of before.

The "usual" for books we read (prior to the plague) - I usually post a thread to make suggestions towards the middle of the month, leaving it open for about a week. After that, I take the suggestions and we have a voting thread for about 1 week. I try to get it so we have 5-7 days to know what we're reading so people can get their copies.

The big thing with the suggestions is for them not to be too recent or in cases when a movie based on a book is about to come out. A lot of us rely on public libraries, so if there is a big surge, it's tough to get copies.

There were only 2 suggestions for June, so we'll be reading one of those next month.
