Brscls, Glad you hung in there, you're right we can't give up now, we're too close to the end! This has been such a fun, exciting 7 weeks!
I took a chance, it's been raining all day and heavily, too. But the running Gods must have been on my side. I walked my 5 min warm up and ran a straight 30 min. hoping to beat the rain and I did it! The sun even came out when I turned into my drive! Moving on to W8, see you Mon or I may have to do it Tues. But I'll be checking in!
Denise, did you run today?

emoticon to all moving on to W8 and Week 7ers, emoticon and we'll be seeing you in W8! emoticon

Left work early - ran 2.5 in 27 minutes (94 degrees) -- it was hot - I'd like to run faster - but I was happy to be done and to kill some calories. Had a cold beer in the pool afterward. Felt nice. Found a 5K on 1 August. My goal was to be able to run a 5K by 26 July. It just works out. I'd like to slay it. Then onto 10K. I'd like to finish one of those by November....

Day 2 this morning...and thank goodness it was cooler! I decided to go for distance instead of time which meant I had to tackle some hills. It took me 32 minutes to run 2 1/2 miles which isn't very fast but hey--4 weeks ago I was worried about running for 5 minutes!!! Good job everybody.

Stargazer-glad you are running 25 again, and the ankle is getting better. Don't push too hard.

Ran D2 today and it had to be the hardest run of the program. I did it, but much slower than D1. This heat and today the humidity nearly made me want to walk. But I saw all your faces and remembered all the positive words of encourgement and it got me to the end. Thanks everyone you've been awesome!!!!

We're nearing the end, emoticon !!!

I ran and the ankle held up! It's painful, so there is a whole lot of stretching, massaging and icing after a run, but there is clear improvement!

I'm going to hang on W7 for a bit and just continue to strengthen it but I'm running 25 minutes again! emoticon

To all of you heading into W8 - congrats! I can't believe there are like 6 runs left in the program for you! Go! Go! Go!

W7D3 done (yesterday!) It was brutally hot and it's a dry heat (not humid) here in BC but still takes a toll on you when running. I may switch up week 8 to the air conditioned running track for a mere $2 drop in fee :) It's either that or run late at night - not feeling too secure alone on a trail that late. We'll see if DH decides to tag along, which might actually be fun!

See you in Week 8 - Good Luck to those working thru this week - we're on the home stretch! Yippee!

W7D3 - on my way to the gym I realized the battery in my iPod had lost it's charge. So I had to run without it. There is music in the gym, but not necessarily what I would have chosen. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I actually kind of enjoyed it. I never thought I'd say that about running, no less running without tunes in my ears. On to Week 8.

Not fast, but to think a few months ago I could barely run 90 seconds, it's amazing!!I actually burst into tears at the end of the run. Fortunately I was on my own treadmill so nobody saw;)

Hi everyone! I haven't checked in for a while but I finished W6 last week and did W7D1 this morning. I for sure am going to get out earlier next time...I swear the humidity was 100% and there wasn't a whisper of a breeze today! I have to estimate my distance but I think I did about 2 1/4 miles again in my 25 minutes. Not as fast as I would like, but I'm going to keep working on that. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Just did D1 and it went a lot better than I thought. I actually ran 3o min straight! After yesterdays heat, I thought I'd better get out there early. I did sweat a lot ( a lot of this weekends good food and drink out). Plan to do D2 Thurs.

Good luck everyone, emoticon , we're almost near the end! emoticon

I got D1 finished today. I didn't think I was going to make it since I've had a very unhealthy 4th of July weekend. I was able to do it, but at a very slow pace! Oh well hopefully D2 will be better. I'm thinking I need to start taking outside.

Finished Week 7 Day 1. Ran 2.5 miles at a faster pace than I ran on Week 6 Day 3. Pretty happy that I stuck with it through what the weather man says is the hottest day here in 3 years. I can definitely finish a 5K if I really had to.

LoloBear - ankle is about the same. I rested for a few days and tried running just a little yesterday. It did just fine. I will continue to ice and stretch. It's still sore, but the running had no impact on how it felt (didn't make it worse) and might have actually stretched it out a bit. So I'm going to keep doing small/short runs (17 minutes yesterday) to strengthen it back up and work my way back up to the 25 minutes. Thanks for asking!

Did W7D2 today - Yay! One more down! I think I pushed a wee bit too hard today as ended up feeling a bit lightheaded/nauseous at the end. I ran about 2.5 minutes further down the (gravel) greenway before turning around, so I'd finish my run before I hit the pavement on my way home (usually the last 4 min or so) but I hit it anyway. So that tells me I must be running faster, which may explain why I struggled (again) with the last 5 minutes! I will have to remember to pace myself better. Hopefully I'll conquer that last stretch eventually!

Sputnik, some days we feel stronger than others, I agree with MamaMary - chalk it up to a bad day. You can do this!

Stargazer, how's your ankle doing? Hopefully resting it will do the trick. Good for you for listening to your body! (I should be doing this too!)

That sounds like a great way to focus your mind on your goals and get through the time, BRSCLS. I can't believe we are this close!

Way to stick with the program, DUBLREED! I'm glad you pushed yourself.

SPUTNIK, if this is the first time you haven't completed the run interval, you should be proud! There were 5 minute intervals a few weeks ago that I couldn't complete! That's all the more reason that it is unbelievable to me that I am easily running 25+ minutes now. Chalk it up to a bad day and I'm sure you will do better once your body has a chance to rest.

NU2RUNNING, I like the idea of upping your pace by an increment at a time. I may do that over the winter when I need to run indoors again.

Well, I just completed week 7, day 1 and ran extra time. I am finally at a place where I can let my mind wander while I run. Before, I couldn't think of anything except getting my legs to keep moving and wondering how long until my next walk break. Now it is like my therapy time where I can reflect on my goals and work through all sorts of things and hardly think of my effort at all except for the occasional pep talk when I hit a hill or something. I think that is a great reward for all the hard work!

So I am thinking officially I can run 25 minutes straight since I have done it 2 days now W7D1 complete. Tried a new plan to keep me going this morning I count to 100 then think of something I am going to accomplish from my change in diet and exercise (like 100 more defined cheekbones, 100 smaller calves, etc). It must have worked because I decided to look down at my time around where I thought it would be 25 minutes and I was 13 seconds beyond that.
To all of you beginning W7, in the middle of W7, and finishing W7, oh yeah we can do this, can you believe how close we are to the end now? Have a great weekend!!

Week 7 DONE! I contemplated not even doing it because I had a little too much to drink with friends last night and didn't feel so hot today. But after some brothy soup and a nice, long nap, I got up the energy to go. I started off kind of slowly just to see how I felt, and after a few minutes I got my groove back. I went for distance today, running 2.5 miles in 26:45!

Yesterday, for the first time since starting C25k, I was unable to complete the workout. I'm kind of bummed, but I think I just pushed myself to hard the night before (in the 12 hours before I did some intense st and 1 hour of Zumba). I'm now determined to run 25 straight minutes tomorrow!

W7D1 - went to the gym after work last night. I really enjoyed that me time. It was great not to have to rush back to the office or have to worry about who was waiting for me so they could go do their thing. Once my little girl starts Kindergarten in the fall and my husband is picking up both kids after school I may do it more often.

I increased the speed on the treadmill by the .1, but I figure each increment is step in the right direction. I walked for 5, ran at 5.1 mph for 25 minutes, then walked for another 15, for a total mileage of 3.25. I was so psyched. I can't wait to go again. I'd love to go today, but I'm forcing myself to take the well deserved and necessary rest day.

Lolobear - I run at night after work, but my main reason is because I work for a major contractor and I am up at 4:45 just to get ready for work. I just can't get up any earlier! :)

I agree with you about the stress relief - after a crazy day in the office, I find that my workout time at the end of the day is "Me" time and I get to unwind and refresh and burn off the stress.

I didn't get to run W7D2 today, though, so I'm planning on doing it tomorrow.

Dublreed - great thoughts and great post! You're right and thank you for the reminder. I needed that this week. I am definitely a slow runner, but speed will come with time. I can actually run for 25 minutes!

Hello everyone! Glad to hear that everyone is having so much success with Week 7. I ran Week 7, Day 2 today and think I found my groove again (Week 7, Day 1 was just bad!). The run went well and I added a bit of distance during the 25 minute run.

Linda - I run in the mornings while it is cool out, it's still in the upper 80's and very humid here well after dark. I also can never seem to find time in the evenings.

W7D1 done today! Question: Do most of you run after working all day, or run in the morning before work? I find it's a great stress reliever after work, but since I'm really struggling during the last 5 minutes, I'm not sure it's really optimal.

I'm hoping this week will help me break through this wall that I keep hitting! I dunno .. thinking about changing my route too, maybe that would help. Any ideas? Linda

Done with Day 2! Ran 2.4 miles in 25:20! I'm definitely going to go for distance on Friday. It shouldn't be too difficult, as I'll only have to run another half a lap.

To those of you who are frustrated by your speed...don't be! Just embrace the fact that you're running as long as you are, or that you're running at all! Remember back in week 4 when we all looked to week 5, saw that dreaded 20 minute run, and thought there was no way we would be able to do it? Guess what? We did! Who cares if it isn't a 10 minute mile? Every day we are proving ourselves wrong about our strength and endurance, and overcoming mental and physical hurdles. We are amazing. emoticon

W7D1 - heading to the gym after work today. It'll be a new time slot for me, hope it goes as well as my lunch time workouts.

Hi All,

I did the work out on Sat and Mon - running 30 minutes at a time each time now. I totally blew the diet the last few days. This conference and the weekend with my friends is a double whammy. I am planning to run tomorrow but I cannot find my ear phones or my watch - and I am stuck on the treadmill - TORTURE. I am going to do it though - and try to run longer. I NEED earphones!!! I am so going to do this and regroup on my return home Thurs! I know I can do it.

Thanks all
Cindy

Congrats everyone!
I ended up going back to bed this morning instead of doing my W7D1 run today. My little head cold has progressed a little further and I woke up with a fever. So I am resting up today.
Truth be told, I'm a bit peeved to be derailed by sickness *again*. But I know that I'll recover faster if I take a rest now.

Week 7 Day 1 is outta here!! I feel amazing. I ran 20 mins on Saturday and thought I was going to die. It felt so hard for some reason. I was even low on energy this morning but determined to do it. I ran 1.5 miles in 25 minutes. I can't believe it! I am so proud of myself. emoticon emoticon

Ran W7D3 last night. Decided to run to the end of the path we were on. I could see the end when the 25 min ended so by the time I got to the end I had run for 31 minutes and a total of 1.75 miles. I cut 15 second off my previous run and was doing 17.44 min mile. I'm still a little discouraged by pace but I'm amazed at the fact that I can run for half an hour! After walking about a mile back toward the car my DH and I talked about ways to lengthen my stride to get more speed and distance. We ran a little with a longer stride and I really did pick it up but I can only sustain that for about 30 seconds! So since I've got the time down for C25k I'll keep trying to push up my speed some over the next month. 3.5 weeks until my first 5k!

Hello Week 7! Finished Day 1 this morning, for some reason it seemed very hard, but I think it was primarily the heat and humidity (at 6:00am!).

Cindy - hopefully you did your run today despite last night's wine! Be sure to let us know!

w7d3 finished! so far i've been running for distance so i've been finishing 2.5 miles in just under 30 minutes...i guess that means i've completed C25k for TIME but i'm not stopping until i finish for DISTANCE!!

definitely having a hard time moving past the 2.5 mile mark but hopefully i'll be able to reach 2.75 all this week...see you all in week 8!

You can do it! Just think about how you would feel if you decide to slouch. It wouldn't feel good, and you would probably spend two days beating yourself up. That would lead to stress, and stress causes fat storage, as well as leading to other unhealthy activities/thoughts. I've struggled with this for so long, and really thinking about the consequence has helped so much! Looking forward to seeing your post tomorrow that says, "I did it!"
