I've started eating fruit every time a want a sweet snack or I feel hungry. This doesn't always work when I'm having a chocolate craving but so far it has really helped. It ups my fruit intake for the day and most times I don't want the sweet. And even if I do still want the sweet I can eat less of it and still feel satisfied.

My exercise has gotten so much easier. I've been following my plan religiously for a month now and I am starting to feel the difference. I don't have to talk myself into exercising anymore and I actually enjoy my exercise time now. Especially when I put my son in his jogging stroller and take him for a walk.

Does anybody have any great desert/sweet recipes that are tasty and healthy(er)? I would love to try some new treats.

I agree, food is my weakness...sometimes I feel like I work out just so I can eat more. I feel that I have to think about it all day to keep my diet on track!

If I go too long without eating good sweets like fruit then I tend to crave things like chocolate, ice cream, or zingers. I have gotten much better at portion control and I am figuring out how to eat fruits and veggies first or to have soup or salad before a fatty meal. I do find that I need to eat more often when I eat smaller portions but I think that is a good thing. It just takes so much time to stay vigilant.

Honestly, I think food is harder than exercise. Depending on what you choose exerercise can be fun and is only 30 minutes or so. Food, on the other hand, is super accessible, tasty, enjoyable and way too easy to give in to. I think the food has always been my issue. I lost 26 pounds last year but honestly food held me back from more. I would give in for periods of time and that didn't help. Overall I'm better with portion sizes and choices, for the most part, but I still have my periods where I could eat a whole darn pizza! It takes time and little steps help. Doing it all at once, when we know it's a weakness, probably is only a recipe for failure (unless you're a cold turkey type!).
What do you struggle with the most? Portions, fast food, sweets, etc? What do you crave?

While exercise has bee getting easier for me I am finding myself struggling with food choices. I know what I should eat and I stick to it for the most part but I have cravings for things that I simply MUST have. I feel okay about eating those things because it is not an overwhelming habit but I find that I don't loose weight as fast because I'm consuming more calories. I'm working on it because I would like to see my hard work paying off instead of just maintaining the bulk I already have.

Is anyone else struggling with this?

Hi Ladies!

Sorry I have been MIA the past few days. I started a new class and it has been consuming my time. I'm taking two classes this semester and preparing for an entry exam so the pressure is on!

How has everyone been doing? I have not been doing as hot with exercise and my nutrition truly stinks. I barely eat and when I do it's crap food. I do have to say that this week I'm making more of an effort. I've got lot of fruits and veg in. i just have to start caring a little more too! With everything going on I've gotten lax...ALREADY!!!!

What's new?

My name is Kelly, I'm an emergency room nurse. I have a little guy that is 20 months and soooo much fun. He's known around town for his energy, he definitely keeps me and my hubs on our toes. I just started SP and sorry I haven't posted earlier, I was on holiday! Now it's back to the grind. I managed to only gain 1/2 pound on vaca, so I think that's a victory :)
I am starting grad school full time starting in Feb, I teach nursing students at the local college and I work so I think that getting my body and health in check is very important right now. I've been going to the gym and loving it but I have a weakness for snacks...
So nice to "meet" you all and I look forward to getting to know you all better!

Caspersmamma, I think your english is superb, considering you are norwegian. I am a teacher, and we have some snow days as of late. Those are never good. I have all day to exercise and what do I do instead? Eat. I have been doing ok, but it is definitely a struggle to not have a snack. I have been trying to keep my hands busy. I am a reader, so I have been putting down the books until bedtime, and doing other activities during the day (like playing video games, after my workout, of course, with my daughter.) I also went grocery shopping, and bought some of those yoplait parfaits. Yum, and only 100 cals! The downside to those? I want more!

LADYSALUBRIOUS: I live in Norway. But i have relatives in US. In Wisconsin, but not sure which town.
I saw a documentary about that town on tv. It was a a bit strange to see a town in US that's was so norwegian. Syttende Mai is a special day in Norway. I like that day allot. we dress up in our national costume, bunad, and go out and walk in the streets with our flags and every one is happy.

So how are you all doing?
This week haven't been so good for me. I have had cravings and have not been strong so i have eaten snacks that i should. So my motivation is not so good now, but i will not give up:)
I just need to get on the correct track again.

i wish you all a great weekend

I'm so impress that you have the energy to work, study and have to kids. I think it's hard to just have one and do all the things home. And I dont work jet. I have never been in a support group before. But i think this will be good. It's so great to have someone to talk to and motivate each other.
My goal is to loose 22 kg, but i'm setting my small goal of loosing 5 and 5 kg first.
I'm sorry about my english, it's not that good, so the sentences can be a little funny. I'm norwegian so that's why.

I don't know how you find the energy to work, go to school, and chase after 2 kids. Bravo. This is my first buddy group but I am really enjoying it. It is great to know that others struggle with similar obstacles and that we all share the same goal of living healthier. I have a long way to go but I have started with a 50 pound goal for this year. I'm doing great so far (down 10) and I know that I can do this, especially with all the wonderful support from all my spark friends.

Hello ladies!
My name is Amy and I am a full-time working mom and part-time returning student. I have a near 3 year old son (wow! when did that happen???) and a 16 month old daughter. They keep me busy and I swear I learn something new from them everyday.

I joined SP one year ago and was able to lose 26 of the 40 pounds I aimed for last year! Woo hoo. Over the past few months I gained about 8 of those back so my goal for this year is 23 pounds.

My motivation for losing weight is my overall health and wanting to be an example for my kids so that things like whole foods don't seem weird but normal. Plus, I need energy to keep up with them both! haha

I hope that we can work with each other to provide ideas and support as needed. I tell you that the one thing that I learned through Spark is that support is KEY to success. Although we are capable to go at it alone it is always much easier when someone is there to listen and lend a hand!

Have any of you been a part of a Buddy Support Group before? If so, how did you like it? What are everyone's goals so far? Have you wrote them out?

All the best ladies! I look forward to hearing from each of you!

~Amy~

Hi everyone!!! I am the mom of am 8 1/2 month old baby boy. He is already so active and he's not even crawling yet!!! I have lost the weight I put on during pregnancy, but now I am trying to loose the weight I needed to loose before I got pregnant, and I always seem to get stuck at the same weight. I was going really strong through the holidays, but lately I am lacking in motivation a little bit. I am ready to get back on the "wagon" and look forward to giving and receiving support from everyone!

Hello all! I am excited to have a buddy group! I have 4 little girls (who are currently at home sick with the hubby). My oldest is 5 and the youngest is 6 months. They are beautiful and a wonderful inspiration for me to stay healthy and fit. I want them to grow up seeing and enjoying exercise and eating healthy. (if that sentence doesn't make sense, don't blame me, I was up a lot last night!) Anyway, my brother happens to be a personal trainer (in a different state than me), but he gave me some great strength training exercises to do right at home with the things I have in my house, including the kids. I never asked him before, and I am not sure why. He is one of the top trainers in the Detroit area. If you would like any ideas, let me know. I am starting tonight after work.

My son is also always on the move. He just won't sit still. He is extremely happy and gets excited about everything. It is draining but I have found that the more consistent I am in my exercise the more energy I have. It grows in small increments but it does help.

I have also a son that's 10 months old. Its a fun age. He is never still and is high and low. And he is always happy. But i'm getting tired because he is so active and he don't sleep well at night so i dont have many hours sleep at night.
So i think it's hard to have the energy to work out, but i try.
I have also just joined spark people and I'm so motivated because i have had good results.

I'm so excited about joining this team. My son is almost 10 months old and is doing a combination of crawling and walking holding on to furniture. I just recently joined spark people and am excited about the results I am getting. I live in Northern California and love getting out into our beautiful mountains for hiking. I hope you are all having a great year so far and I hope we can all give each other a little encouragement and push each other to do a little more.
