Yesterday "Reflections on the artist's way" audiotape arrived. I will listen to it while sewing today. I want to make a lap blanket - one side cotton, the other side fleece, so I can choose what I want next to me.
I will explore my fabrics too.

I had my first artist date since joining this group, today. I went up in my studio, and made pillow covers for two living room pillows, and for big block pillows for my back. It felt good! Go me!

I think my Artist's Date this week will be to start my brand-new Sketchbook/Journal. It took me three years to fill up the last one - probably not so long to finish this new one thanks to The Artist's Way! Not that there's a time limit or anything....

After several weeks delay, I had my second Artist Date today after starting up my Artist's Way practice again.

I live in Houston and we have a very quirky and unknown Museum of Printing History. They have an exhibit of underground newspapers in Houston on display there, so that was my date. I'm a writer, and I was quite involved with one paper - there even was an issue with a picture of me in the exhibit! That was gratifying and made me feel a part of it. I was familiar with a lot of the papers exhibited, as well as the issues they were covering, so it was a memory date.

I saw a friend of mine who happened to be printing screen prints. (Houston may seem like a huge town, but it is actually very small.) At first I avoided meeting her because I know artist dates are solo. But after I'd spent a while exploring the exhibit & other parts of the museum, I felt like I'd be missing out if I didn't go say hi. I'm glad I did. She had a very serious kindergartener friend helping her out, and they showed me how to print. Then Anna took me to meet another artist friend of hers who was also working, and the friend very lovingly gave us a detailed tour of this wonderful collaborative artist book about Hurricane Ike, which struck Houston in September 2008, and which affected all of us so deeply. It was wonderful seeing the creative way the printmakers portrayed the hurricane "eating" our city (as one of pages did).

Creativity abounded.

Oh I love spa. I can't afford it at any fancy place but as long as there is a hot tub or a sauna - that's the place for me. It's like the only excuse that's ok for me to rest and relax and not feel like I HAVE to ACCOMPLISH something.

Yeah! I think a coffee shop crash counts as an Artist Date - as long as it felt like an Artist Date to you! Sometimes it's hard for me to tell. emoticon

I go by what it feels like. When I have a really good artist date I feel energized and refreshed. I know I did something special just for me and I didn't have to worry what anyone else thought about it.

Last week, though, I ended up using a spa gift certificate I had sitting around and had been putting off using. I had never done the spa thing before, and while I was counting it as an Artist Date, turns out I didn't really enjoy it. Don't get me wrong - parts of it were really nice, but a couple of hours in and I was bored silly. Guess I'm not much of the spa type, but at least now I know that about me, and I tried something new. emoticon

I did my artist date on Monday after therapy waiting for yoga. I went to starbucks, sat in the coffee shop and started reading the artist's way book? Does this count. I rarely have a chance to hang at a coffee shop and I always enjoy it when I do. I like the comfy chair, the hip music and constant influx of people. I didn't buy anything either. This is rather rebellious of me as I would normally feel obligated to buy something in order to sit there. I was a rebel and didn't!

It all seems rather silly and honestly I feel I do little things to treat myself regularly during my lunch hours like going to the card shop on Wednesday which could also really count as an artist's date. Well, I suppose if I call it my artist's date - then it IS! Own it!

Way to go TWINKLEMAMMA on yours! Oh a summer dress - how romantic.

I managed a real AD today. I went out to do a little shopping alone, to pick up a few things I needed. Couldn't find the store I was looking for and ended up driving around for about an hour, listening to music turned up really loud and singing. When I finally decided on a store, I took my time looking at things just for fun. Found an awesome sundress that delighted my artist child - lots of prints, bright colors and flowers, a ribbon, flounces and a ruffle, and it actually fit. I felt like I was 6 and playing dress up. Couldn't imagine I would wear it in regular life, but I might go back and get it for when I'm creating. Who knows? I might just get brave and venture out in it.

Well...Julia Cameron "recommends" that Artist Dates be something you do alone, but I know lots of people who do their Artist Dates with others. You might want to experiment and try them both ways ... see what works best for you.

For me, I have to be alone. I just don't get as much out of it if I have other people with me for an "official" AD. But everybody is different.

Whether you call it an Artist Date or not - I would run, not walk, to that Patsy Cline show. Sounds fabulous! emoticon

Do I have to go by myself? I want to go see a Patsy Cline show at a local theatre.

It's good that the vet doesn't shake them up too much. emoticon

But what I want to know is, how was the trip for YOU? emoticon Did you have fun? To get the most out of my Artist Dates I make them something that is purely pleasurable for myself. Something I really want to do.

Just wondering if you look at the Artist Dates differently, or if the vet trip was a fun outing for you. It's great that you are committing to the Artist Dates.

I NEED an Artist Date. I love the Artist Dates when I do them, but I have a hard time making time for them. And as I am taking more time for my creativity I'm not sure what qualifies as an Artist Date. I use to need to plan something special, but now that I'm painting every week, is that my Artist Date? It doesn't feel the same, somehow. Anybody else had any good artist dates lately?

Now that I've started blocking out a little time for Artist's Dates - I find myself having two or three a week (about 15-30 minutes a pop). I colored again this week AND scrapbooked AND baked. All of a sudden it's becoming a bit easier to do what I want during my free time and I keep looking for other open pockets of time to fill in for ME!

I bought a small pack of crayons and a coloring book (of castles and unicorns). I've been taking mini-artists dates as I get 10 to 20 minute breaks at work for the next few days. I used to love coloring and castles and unicorns when I was little so this has been wonderful!

Hello! Just returned from a week with my mom. Great Visit!

My AD this week was returning home to a package that arrived while I was away. I ordered a book thru Chapters-Indigo online, Photographers at Work: Dancers. Photographs by Annie Leibovitz. There are 40 black and white plates in there. I made a cup of tea and relaxed with the book for a few hours. There are 3 b&w plates I have chosen to frame for my entryway.

I also spent about 30 minutes this afternoon raking big and tiny maple leaves off our decks in the backyard. The contrast of the leaves always makes me smile, remembering the joy the trees bring us during the summer months. You could say I get to smile a lot this time of year!

So nice to read all your posts re AD's. emoticon

Such great artist dates! Thanks for the inspiration. I am finding the ADs make SUCH a huge difference for me. I am just a much happier, better person to be around when I do one. This week I didn't have anything on the calendar, because I've been working A LOT. But I was sitting at my dining room table looking out through the living room through the front windows to beautiful golden leaves drifting down. I swear it was like they were calling me. The last time I went hiking I had seen leaves just like that, but bunches of them carried on the breeze over the river so they looked like a swarm of golden butterflies. Anyway, seeing the leaves like that again was a clear signal to me - the weather's fine, you've worked hard all week, now get you butt hiking and enjoy yourself. So I did.

Going hiking alone is the most incredible thing for me. Having the freedom and the responsibility to make choices about where I go, how fast, and when I stop are amazingly empowering. On my latest trek I spent a lot of time sitting on the overlook looking out and down across the river, watching birds and listening to other hikers chat. I saw a couple of deer on my way out of the woods. I left exhausted, but renewed. My, my who'd have thunk these ADs could be addictive?

Uh Oh--I went shopping again yesterday and it felt like an AD. In the morning on the way to work, I stopped and spent time picking out colors and color ranges for the dining room. Wow--so much to consider! In the afternoon, I went to Marshalls to look for wine glasses and ended up with a nice set for 8 (wishing I could have gotten 12--but they only had 8) and 12 dinner napkins that will perfect coordinate with my Thanksgiving dishes. It turns out they coordinate well with the colors we picked for the dining room. I threw down the color families on the table (natural cherry)--first the grays, then the brown/golds, and last the sage greens. Jerry and I picked one set from each color. I asked my son in to look at all the selections and we picked the green tones. The ceiling and shared wall (with kitchen) are going to be the palest color--as well as the woodwork that is painted. The walls, just ever so slightly deeper in hue. There are built-in bookshelves and the back will be a much darker, but still bright shade. Hue/shade, does anyone remember the definitions of the two??? I think one has to do with the color intensity and the other with the amount of white, but I totally don't remember...... Anyway, it was all fun!!!! Somehow, I am having too much fun in stores lately--gotta find non-spending ARs. LOL

Kathleen--an Artist's Date is an Artist's Date. It yours to define and to do. Your inner child rules. Same for you, Rebecca! If it is fun and important to you, it is a fabulous Artist's Date! I still want to have a romp in the leaf piles with Cali--I'm waiting for some dry weather. Hopefully next weekend. Today is promising, but leaves are still too wet from a week of rain and drizzle...... LOL

Picky aren't I?? I want to have the leaves thrown up in the air so they gently drift back to earth and we can run through them........They have to be light as a feather for the right effect!

Cheers, Carol (CMY)

Kathleen, that sounds like a great Artist's Date! I finally started working on a paint by numbers painting last night that I picked up at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago. I should've gotten one of the children's ones for practice, I got the most elaborate and difficult one they had, me who's never worked with acrylics in this lifetime! I'm going to work very slowly and steadily and not worry about the outcome. I actually enjoy the detail work, it's the mixing of colors that I'm worried about.

I did something today I have been meaning to do, I went into a jewelry store to talk about fixing 2 things I have that are broken. I had to wait a while so I became entranced with looking at the gorgeous designs in metal and stone. They had a whole display of rings made out of my birthstone. (it was a custom jewelry designer as well as doing repairs there). During the same trip, I went to a big craft supply store and got some yarn (I am a yarnie, I admit it), some knitting needles, gotta have those bamboo needles. And I did something I rarely do: bought two magazines just for fun. They are one household/life/cooking mag and one knitting mag. Sorry to ramble, I am just so excited about these. They are a rare treat.

I had a lovely Artist's Date yesterday, even though it probably wasn't much by anyone's standards. I went to the Hallmark store and picked out an inspirational card for my sister (which I don't think I'm going to send) and birthday cards for my brother and mom, who have birthdays in December. I got them great cards that said exactly what I was feeling. I was really excited about that. I also picked up some of the cutest stickers, I can't wait to send a message to someone in the group and use them!

Then, I came home and took a nice, long, hot shower, then curled up on the couch with my favorite blanket and sipped some chicken broth while listening to my favorite artist on my iPod. I sat listening for about an hour and didn't concentrate on anything but the music. My mind wandered some, but it was a pretty good meditation overall.

I definitely need to get those Artist's Dates in once a week, if not more. I felt so much calmer and actually revitalized last night, and the feeling has carried over to today.

I had such fun on Friday. On the way into work, I stopped to look in Walmarts for costume props for the dance tonight. I went right to the Halloween section and spent all kinds of time looking through everything. I ended up with fairy wings, face paints, wand and tiara, silver eyelashes, and a pirate kit for my DH. Talk about acting like a kid! I am sure that the checkout people thought I was getting stuff for my grandkids--if they only knew. BTW, the fairy wings said appropriate for ages 3 and up! LOL

Hi Carmen. So glad someone else out there can relate to Project Runway! You get your favorite designers and get some great ideas from what you see some of them working on, so I think it qualifies as an AD, or part of an AD?? Naked in the House was an hour long special on Sex tv. And I admit that we have it because MDH wanted it (Sex TV!). Not that I'm uptight about it, but I don't think to watch it.... but the title of the show definitely caught my eye and I was so glad I watched it.

Have you had an AD this week? I went to Michael's Crafts store yesterday and spent an hour in the supplies area, bought some paints and a beautiful easel. Oh joy Oh joy!! It fits up to a 4' tall canvas and as I said to my BFF tonight, it just begs to have a 4' canvas on it next.

I'm thinking the sunset photo as inspiration, which I have posted in my photo gallery. MDH took that pic! I usually do all the photography and when I did my usual thing with the photos, it was "OH!", pleasantly surprised. He does that everything once in a while.

Have a great day, Carmen!! emoticon Carrie

Carrie, I LOVE Project Runway! My friends are always surprised that I like that show, because they look at it as primarily being about fashion and models. But like you said - it gets my creative juices flowing. I love seeing the situations thrown at the designers and the solutions they come up with.

Naked in the House sounds interesting! Never heard of that one, but I get how it's similar. It lets you think through approaches to a creative problem.

Very cool.

Does anyone watch Project Runway?? I watched it last night and they had RuPaul as a guest and he/she brought in some in some "drag" entertainers for the contestants to make costumes. What a blast! It was an hour of extreme entertainment.

Prior to that I watched, on Sex TV, and I hope no one is offended, and this isn't porno, so don't take it the wrong way, please..... It was called Naked in the House 4. A female nude model and various photo artists were invited to a lakeside house to photograph her for 30 minutes each. They could use the house or the yard, the dock, the lake. It was strictly timed, each artist had 10 frames. There was a gallery exhibit at the conclusion and there was 3rd, 2nd and a winner. 2nd and winner were women!! How about that! The female photographers actually had an advantage I think because the males mentioned that they had to get over their thots of "OMG, she's naked!" and she was beautiful!!

I'm a photographer as well but have never had the opportunity to photo any nudes. As I was watching them do their thing I was wondering how I would do the shoot. Again, it was getting my creative processes running.

The ankle isn't too bad. I had to cut my walk in half because after the first mile it starts to hurt more than I am willing to put up with. Otherwise I am fine.

Our local cemetary is one of the best. I got a couple of spooky pictures of old tombs and nice fall leaves.

I started working on my vision board. Came up with the idea of using a large piece of dark green felt (my bedroom is a light sea green) and velcro to make it. Turned out really well, and I could hang it with a couple of tacks so no real damage to the wall!

Splashing in the rain sounds like such fun!

Hypatiax, what a great idea to go to the Lexington Cemetery. I love that place - may have to put it on my list for future ADs. Sorry you got hurt though - hope your ankle doesn't take too long to heal.

I am resisting doing my AD this week for some reason, but I am taking it on tomorrow. I'm not sure what I'll end up doing. I'll let you know how it goes.

I went over to Lexington Cemetery to photograph some of the historic markers and fall color. Got some great photos but managed to turn my ankle in the process.

Dancing in the garage sounds like so much fun! I went to the art museum - something I love to do, but no one else I know does, so it had been a long time. I left feeling refreshed and inspired. I also went back to the same place I did my last AD and took a bag of stuff with me - not really planning what I would do when I got there. I ended up reading a little, writing a little, taking some photos, and staring up at the trees and sky a lot.

My dog is Mommy's little baby (pictures on my SparkPage). She's full grown and weighs all of 4 pounds (a runt for a Papillon female which is usually around 8 lbs).

Utter light of my life, so any time spent with her is good. But a walk in the park was special. It's one that has a nice set up for dogs -- complete with a doggie drinking fountain (which Bree is too prissy to use) and stations for doggie waste disposal and pick up bags.

Calliopedak---I have a dog and I could probably count every walk with her an AD, because it is so much fun. This dog is the first one I've ever been totally responsible for. My DH sometimes feeds her, but mostly she is my doggie. I just love walking and running with her. She is a great companion and never talks back to me. Tee Hee! CMY (Carol)

Sounds like a very relaxing AD Calliopedak. I don't have a dog but a nice meditation tape and a walk in the park sound really good.

I combined stuff I needed to do -- get the mail in and check the cat for my mom (on vacation), listen to a meditation tape and walk the dog -- and made them into my AD.

I took my dog with me to Mom's house (she is a frequent visitor there), and listened to my tape on Mom's screened-in porch (one of my fav places on a pretty day). Then I took pup over to a local park and walked her there instead of in my neighborhood.

Was very nice.

After posting on the Writers' Group, I got an interesting idea. Since I am debating about what sort of character to use in my next novel, perhaps I should do 'job interviews' with each one! Talking with imaginary people that want to be written about MUST be the epitomy of an Artist Date.

We didn't go anywhere interesting today; son, daughter-in-law and grandkids were going to come over but they were busy and we just went out to visit and feed a friend's cats, he comes home tomorrow, and on the way home did a quick run to the grocery store for the usual bread, milk, eggs.

I found and bought a an interesting spiral notebook there with thicker than usual pages and a couple pockets. I like it and will make it work. I'll think for a day or two on how I want to approach it while morning paging in it :-)

I think I'm going out today on my AD and find me a special book to start a Spark/weight loss/Morning Pages journal in emoticon I've always kind of scorned scrapbooking but I love collage and now I can't see what the big difference is :-) So, I might wander to a scrapbooking store as well as Barnes and Noble (or other store with good journals) or rummage in my old stuff and see if I can't find a notebook only partly used that I can rescue? But kind of thinking about what I want and nosing around will be my AD.

K and H! Go for it. I know someone who does that in the Atlanta area. She is part of a group--someone I grew up with as close family friends. She offered to visit my mom or vice versa when she was first diagnosed with the dreaded BC. I told her that mom wouldn't be receptive--she is so into medical science as the be all and end all. Me, I try everything and my husband is too.

AD's = healing drumming. I like that!

We have an acquaintance that occasionally has a healing drummer visit to give lessons. He brings drums, rattles, etc. We've usually balked at the cost, but yesterday, my wife said:

"Hey, we could call it an Artist Date!"

Almost forgot to post about my AD. I knew I wanted to work more on my paper dolls, but wasn't sure it would take up 2 hours. It was an absolutely gorgeous day here today in Central Kentucky, so I decided to get outside and see what happened. I threw my paperdolls and my new fairy coloring book and some other random things in a bag, grabbed a blanket, and went looking for someplace outdoors. I ended up going to this historical site that has beautiful lawns and old trees. I threw my blanket down at the foot of one of those trees and for a while I just took it all in - the green of the trees and grass, the blue of the sky, the warm sun, and the chattering of the squirrels. Then I finished cutting out clothes for my paperdolls and decided which ones I liked and which ones I didn't. Then I moved on to the fairy coloring book. I had dug out some watercolors that I hadn't used in ages and spent an hour painting flower fairies. I finished up with a walk through the formal garden there. I think I'm going to go back with a camera next time.

It is amazing to me how long 2 hours really is when there are no interruptions - no kids, no phone, no computer. The first time I was afraid I was running out of time I had only been on my AD for 30 minutes. Getting out of the house for the AD was really helpful for me, and I think I'll make that a requirement for myself from now on.

It's so cool to see all the different things people are doing. SusanLynn what's the Indian in the moon?

I definitely plan to spend some time skywatching - during the day and at night. I'd forgotten how much fun that is.

Rebecca, you go girl! What a huge day! I sooo hear you on the self-care thing. I will often go more than a year between hair cuts and I have never had a manicure or pedicure. I have a lot of anxiety around this stuff and somehow feel it's just for other people. Well, you've inspired me. Getting a manicure and pedicure was on my Ten Tiny Changes list and it's the one I'm choosing to do.

I went and got my mani/pedi today, and I got a surprise! My nail tech is also a stylist, and I got a wild hair up my butt and asked her if she had time to cut my hair after my appointment, and she did! I cut off about 6-8 inches and I absolutely love it!

I have a lot of problems with self-care; I haven't had a mani/pedi in about 5 years, and I haven't had a haircut in 3 years. So this was a very big day for me. I'm so proud of myself, and I had so much fun. I feel like this is going to free me to have fun more often and look forward to ADs instead of dreading them.

I did a very small impromptu AD today. When I was almost home from walking the dog this morning, I spotted some interesting leaves-maple-of various colors and sized. I picked them up, threw them onto a white piece of paper and took a picture of them. I'll post the picture in a blog later. It was fun and reminded me of when I used to make leaves pressed in waxed paper. Tee Hee! CMY (Carol)

Yes, paper dolls are awesome, and they just don't make them like they used to!!! *stamps foot* hehehe

Another favorite pasttime with me was painting by numbers - not really trusting myself to get the painting to look like it was "supposed to" without the aid! :D Hopefully, soon, I'll be able to get a few little supplies. My birthday is coming up here in a little over a month....hmmmm maybe I should start dropping hints to the hubby! :D hehehe

I am remembering things from childhood that didn't cost much, or sometimes nothing, and were fun. Building sandcastles, playing in the mud, looking for pretty rocks, drawing with the big fat crayons, looking for pictures in the clouds, etc. . I think you get the idea. I am fortunate that I live where you can see off in the distance for cloud watching.

SUSANLYNN50 - I like it! I don't know how well I could write ON a balloon myself, but maybe a place that fills balloons could slip in a bit of paper with a message on it before they fill it up? It's a thought.

heh heh .... reminds me of how I got back at a Very Nasty Person. I was about 22-ish (yeah, back in the stone age). He went out of his way to make my life miserable, and that extended to most of my friends at the time. The guy just decided he hated me, and anyone associated with me.

So we decided to give him good reason to.

We bought a huge bag of balloons. Inside each one we put a message, then had them filled with helium, and let them go. The message was the same in each:

"Hello, and we thank you in advance for your aid and participation in this study. The balloon is part of a meteorological experiment for the University of Alberta. Essentially, we are studying the night-time air currents and how they are affected by diverse rural and urban variables.

Your assistance in this study is invaluable, and we wish to thank you with a $50 honorarium. Please contact us at (the jerk's phone number) between the hours of 2 and 4 a.m. for this night study. We will need several details, such as the exact place this balloon was recovered, its condition, and so on. Please call collect if this is a long-distance for you.

Again, we thank you for your help, and hope this honourarium will compensate you for any inconvenience you may experience.

Sincerely,
(Jerk's name)
(Jerk's number again)"

Funny.... soon after, he seemed just too tired to hassle us. Odd, that.....

As soon as I am near someplace that sells the big plain helium balloons, I am going to purchase one, write a message on it and let it float away. No mylar for me. Or, maybe I should just get a kite and play with it.

What a cool AD! I have been slacking on doing mine, I'm going to see a movie tomorrow, but I haven't done anything as cool as some of y'all. This morning while doing morning pages I questioned why I'm even doing this course at all if I'm not doing the artist's dates and, therefore, not doing it properly and giving it my all. Still wrestling with that one.

Thanks, MERRICAT! It was really the "think like a kid" advice that jogged the paper doll thing for me. Yes! I love the hand-holding paper dolls! I used to make tons of them, and will probably do some before I'm done with this project as an AD. Hope you enjoy it if you decide to try some.

I wasn't thrilled with the way the Virtual Model site worked either, but I hit a button to enlarge my model and then I just right clicked and was able to save a copy to my computer. The clothes I got the same way - just visiting a site I liked and right clicking and saving the photos. I wasn't able to make my model try on things either on the site. Eh, who knows?

Just one important clarification I want to make - for my paper doll I made the model the size I am now. That was part of the thrill of it for me - being able to take the pictures of the clothes and make them fit me now - not the skinny version of me somewhere down the road. I have used the model of the skinny me for motivation, but for this project I really wanted to honor the fact that I have a right to look and feel beautiful right now - just as I am.

TWINKLEMAMA - paper dolls! I never would have thought of that. What a great idea. And not just dolls, but a whole wardrobe. Not only a neat AD, but a very useful weight-loss visual reminder.

I wish *I* could find out how to get these virtual models to work for me. I went to a site that gave me a "me", but it never wore any of the clothes I wanted to try on. Plus it wouldn't let me save any pics to print.

Thanks for the great idea. I think I'll try making those "hand-holding dolls"....you know, you cut a half-person out of folded paper, and you get a ring of them. It wasn't a common craft where I grew up in Itay, and my tremors make me a little wary....but hey, Buddha hates a coward right?

Right!

I did my first AD today! I made paper dolls! This was one of my favorite things as a kid. I made my own and collected them. I had shoe boxes full of them that I would sort and organize.

I wasn't sure exactly how I was going to approach this project, so I got out paper, colored pencils, fabric, and pens. I drew one, but then fell back on an idea I had earlier that I thought might be too complicated. It actually was fairly simple and turned out great. I went to the My Virtual Model site and made a model with my proportions, then saved it and inserted it into a Word document, printed it and cut it out - my very own paper doll version of myself.

Then I went to my favorite on-line catalog where I would buy all my clothes if money and size were not a consideration. It turns out, in paper doll world money and size are not a consideration at all - it was fantastic!!! I picked all kinds of things that I loved and never once looked to see if they would fit or if I could afford them. The only condition was that I had to love everything I picked out. Turns out my paper doll alter ego had some strong opinions. Every time I would start to choose something sensible and safe (and probably in my size), the paper doll me would say, "But I don't want to wear that!" No sense arguing with a paper doll, so we got lots of fun, low-cut dresses and funky patterns.

I copied all the pics of the clothes and dropped them into the Word document with my paper doll. Then I just adjusted the size of everything until it fit! Boy was this empowering! Shorter and wider was the key for me, but it all still looked great. You'd think the actual designers could figure this out.

So I printed all the clothes out, drew on tabs, and started cutting them out. Voila! My very own paper doll with clothes I look good in and love. I had such a good time - I think I literally clapped my hands in excitement three times. This was unbelievably good for my psyche in so many ways.

The only problem is that I didn't want to stop. I eventually made myself put them away without finishing because I needed to go do other things (I'm going to have to get a shoe box to store them in). It made me think about something CVDANAHER wrote here in another thread : "I'm afraid to have a good time because it will end." emoticon That's how it made me feel. Why did I even start this when there's no way I'll be able to keep it up? Not rational because I know I can come back to it again, but the feeling is still there. It sort of feels like opening a can of worms - I either want to be creative and have fun all the time, or not at all. And I'm sad about how long it's been since I've had this much fun with something. Still picking through those emotions, but so glad for the experience and looking forward to more ADs.

Yes, massages count. Mmmm.....massages with warm-mud foot-soaks, wiggling your toes in the goopy mess. Heaven!

I really have a horrible time working with the notion of these Artist Dates. Do I find something I really enjoy doing, or do I do something creative/artistic that is more 'fun' than professional?

If it just has to be fun, I'd get massages each week until I ran out of money. I'm a hedonist, and it wouldn't involve food!

Yesterday I went to beach. Played in the surf with my dog, who had a blast 'chasing' the tide back into the ocean. The waves were rough from Hannah passing through the night before. Not usual for Maine and reminded me of home. They were beautiful, the day was beautiful. I watched the Gulls and Sandpipers, I played in the sand, it was awesome. The beach is the only place I feel at peace & safe.

My date this week was with a giant coloring book and colored pencils. Took me about an hour and a half to color one page (it really was giant- like 17'x'14!) and I loved it. All was quiet. I didn't try to make subtle shading and clever color schemes. Just grabbed colors and started in. Had a great time.

I think for my AD I'm going to give myself a pedicure. That's something that makes me go "oooh, I wanna do that!" I used to always keep my toes and fingers polished, but got out of the habit a couple of years ago. So I'm pulling out all of my good smelling foot stuff and pampering myself while I watch football! LOL

I spent one AD choosing and buying stickers, so every day that I do something 'worthy', I stick them onto my calendar.
I also like playing with my crayons.....

I have found my AD moment. I like putting on The Mom song on youtube and bouncing on my stability ball like riding a horse. It is pure fun.
