I learned by going through this chapter that throughout my life I was a workaholic.

I finally understand the reasoning behind why people get caught on this kind of repetitive work wheel. For many work provides a certain sense of validation and worth. I started on the workaholic train young and continued on with it by going to school and working together. I had to prove to myself I was super woman and it drowned me. I am in deep recovery and just beginning to cross to the other side of it all. It has been a scary thing to let go of.

I am learning how to be good to myself.

The listing of small victories I felt a particularly powerful acknowledgement.

1. I have almost completed The Artists Way.

2. I am doing artwork and not just talking about it.

3. I’ve set myself up to take classical guitar lessons again.

4. I have been actively decluttering

5. My lighting in my art work space has gotten an update and this has made a big difference.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...

I'm hoping to have read enough of the book to get started on week one by Sunday. You are inspirational!

"It is the ego's demand that our work be totally original - as if such a thing were possible...It is the accurate mapping out of our own creative interests that invites the term original. We are the origin of our art, its homeland. Viewed this way, orginality is the process of remaining true to ourselves" (page 174).

Week 10 Reflections

3 promises made to myself when I finish my thesis project:
...that the time slot every night that I have devoted to study, will then be devoted exclusively to creative play.

...that I will learn how to play an instrument.

...that I will buy an easel. A nice one!

One lovely thing done for my self every day this week:
Sunday - painted my nails
Monday - Artist's Date & meditation
Tuesday - bought myself 2 pair pants for winter
Wednesday - volunteer meeting ("filling the well")
Thursday - milkbath!
Friday - playing hooky with a friend, shhhh! don't tell!
Saturday - went on a very pleasurable jog

CHECK IN:
1. I did mornig pages 6 days this week, but they were really tought to finish.
2. Letting myself have a second Artist's Date this week felt very indulgent, but really good!
3. Yes, I experienced synchronicity this week.
4. The most significant issue this week has been "self care." It's so important, yet not taught to us or encouraged by society. Self care is absolutely essential to being able to nuture other people. Julia is right, treating yourself like a precious object does make you stronger! Yes!
