St. Thomas was great, but we're travelling now - in two years we've been to New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Samoa, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Bali, Thailand, Malaysia, and Korea. No less than two weeks in a place, no more than six months in a place. We just took the train across Canada, and will visit DH's family in the next few weeks - then fly back to Japan in Sept. LOVING the travelling life!

I clicked on the link, it doesn't go anywhere. Not sure why it isn't working.

And I've had to learn to be organized because I hate when I can't find stuff.

Oh, we didn't set up our stuff for the house sale or price a thing - we just cleared out what we were keeping, and everything else was up for grabs. Seriously. People would bring stuff to us, ask how much, we'd name a price, sometimes they made a counter offer, if it was reasonable we'd say okay, if not we'd tell them no. It was the day after my b'day, and we didn't want to spend my b'day setting up, so we just did it the easy way. We also gave away some stuff to big shoppers, gave them a discount or a free plant or something. Plus our sale was one day only, although a few people called for post sales and we made arrangements if it was convenient.

When we sold our bed, we told the lady she couldn't have it until X date - she was okay with that, especially since I gave her two sets of sheets to go with it.

Though I wasn't taking care of an elderly parent at the time, I'm sure that takes plenty of your focus too!

And why would you LEAVE St.Thomas!? Omg..we had a 2 day yard sale a couple weeks ago and made $2,000 but it nearly broke hubby's back setting up and tearing down...and STILL HAVE A HOUSE full and garage FULL of stuff. If anyone is in INdiana I'd be happy to send the auction link!

Are any of my links working that show the beginning of the bags I am selling?

Thanks for the motivation!!! I am the WORST disorganized person in the world. I am currently looking for a box of vitamins I stashed when we thought we had a pre-auction offer on the house and I was frantically clearing out every corner for a visit from buyer. This has been CRAZY since I am caring for my old mom also.....and trying to place 4 dogs!!! wahhh.

buT I HAVE LISTED a ton of purses on my new FB page thougth someone maybe interested in. Now if I can only get the link to WORK!!!! www.facebook.com/profile.php

Congratulations on the big plan!

When we decided to leave St. Thomas, we boxed up what we wanted to save and sent it to my brother. Then, we had a house sale - sold everything we could (including hangers out of the closet!) - if I saw a woman roughly my size, I told her clothing was in X room, $10 a dress, $10 a pair of shoes. Ended up making a couple of thousand on the house sale.

Leftover small stuff went to either Salvation Army (especially clothes) or the Animal Shelter (they have a place where they sell stuff and use the $ to care for the animals - but they always need towels or linens to make beds for the animals).

Big furniture we listed on craigslist and sold; antique stuff went to our synagogue's auction, where we received 70% of the sale price (and got a nice check later in the year); and cars were sold (mine via a friend, DH's via craigslist.

And voila, we were down to luggage only and ready to go travel!!! YAY!

So - it seems overwhelming, but it can be done! Just be systematic about getting everything accomplished. Oh, and make a list or table on the computer where you log everything in each box, and label the boxes - otherwise you'll forget what's in them. I just did K for kitchen, B for books and photos and music, H for house, C for clothing - then added a number. So I know exactly what is in B-10, for example. SO glad I did that, I had my brother bring some boxes when we met up to clear our dad's house for sale, and I went "shopping" for new clothes in the boxes. Put together a whole new wardrobe for our next few years of travel. So really, it takes time but you'll be happy later if you log and label your boxes.

Hope all that helps!!!! And good luck!!!!
