AND DONE!

Just finshed the 2016 30 Day Rider Fitness Challenge - and feel I have earned a break. As I described in my last message, I did reduce the intensity of the workouts slightly in order to not hurt my body. If anyone would like encouragement or ideas about how to "lighten" the exercises for any of these challenges, just let me know.

Now for my next challenge...
I'm going to work towards better consistency for riding - trying for at least 4 rides per week (weather pending).

Whoa Boy!

So, I have completed three weeks of the 2016 30 Day Rider Fitness Challenge so far. BUT, I had to back of the intensity of both the strength training & cardio workouts. The squats and lunges during the strength training started hurting my knees, so I just didn't go as low for each exercise. The jogging intervals of cardio was more than I could handle so I slowed the pace (still jogged, but at 3.5 mph instead of 5.5 mph).

This challenge is a bit tougher than I remembered. I'm so glad I started with the newer challenges first. Otherwise, I don't think I would be able to complete this one ;)

Today was not a good day as far as my diet! BUT - it was a great day outside with my horses. Spring vaccinations and PowerDose deworming are complete. Extra time included additional grooming to help with the shedding season. I think both horses appreciated the extra attention.

And, I started the 2016 "30 Day Rider Fitness Challenge" TODAY - March 1st.

Today was my final rest day for the 2019 Equestrian Fitness Challenge - and I completed this challenge successfully :) It was originally supposed to be 14 days, but is 21 days total.

Now I will revert to my original favorite exercise plan for the remainder of this month, then redo the 2016 - 30 Day Rider Fitness Challenge.

So far I have noticed a significant improvement in my balance and control in the saddle, and have lost 22 lbs since January 1st thanks to these challenges and Sparkpeople's tracking tools.

Another week completed successfully! Yesterday was a scheduled rest day - thank goodness because if not I was going to swap it for a rest so that I could enjoy Valentine 's Day with my hubby. I will have to see on Sunday (weigh in) if I enjoyed it too much. We went to Golden Corral for dinner, and while I ate less than I normally would - I didn't track anything.

I have stayed on track with the Challenge except for swapping exercise days with riding days since we had so much rain last week. I also had to swap a riding day for a run/walk on the treadmill for Wednesday.

Today, I started the 2019 week 3. This challenge only goes for 21 days, so hopefully I'm successful and complete it this coming Friday, 02/21/2020. I will continue to strength train, stretch, walk, and ride for the remainder of the month, then start the 2016 challenge on March 1st. That's the plan anyways :p

Still here, and still on track. I completed my first week of the 2019 Equestrian Fitness Challenge. Yesterday was supposed to be 30 minutes of intentional riding and today a rest day, but since it poured down rain all day yesterday, I chose to flip-flop the days. I took Slate to the river and back for a nice 45 minute ride today. Tomorrow, I start week 2 & the workouts get a bit harder.

Anyone else working on a challenge?

Hello everyone,

So, I have completed the 2020 challenge and added it to my Google Drive. It is now shared with all of you - anyone interested in these Equestrian Fitness Challenges can download them from the link in my previous posts. I invite everyone to try these challenges, and post your progress or notes to this forum. I would love to read about your successes, and I'll also be here for extra motivation if needed.

Since the 2020 challenge was for only 10 days - I finished out this month by repeating my 10th day workouts yesterday, and today I rode my horse in the rain. This was our 1st ride in nearly 3 weeks, so I'm very happy I got to ride. To keep this momentum going, I've decided to start last year's challenge tomorrow, Feb 1st. The 2019 challenge was for 21 days, but it will take me 22 because I will be celebrating Valentine's Day with Hubby. My hope is that if I can successfully complete the 2019 challenge, that I will re-do the 2016 30 Day Rider Fitness Challenge again in March. Perhaps a friend or two will want to become a better rider and join in.

LOL PETIESGIRL! No, trimming isn't rest - I just couldn't fathom trying to trim on the same day as 50 squats. OUCH!

I didn't keep all of the 2017 & 2018 challenge materials because they included exercises with a stability ball and I didn't have one. I deleted the PDF files and just repeated the 2016 challenge for those years. 2019 also includes exercises with a stability ball, but I was able to substitute a chair and still complete the challenge.

I will add a 2020 folder with this year's downloadable files once they are all available.

Just FYI, this program is basic HOME exercises that focus on the muscles & balance you use when riding, but does NOT require a horse! If you have horses, there is also exercises for while your are riding, but the WELCOME recording says that you can do walking exercises instead when/if you cannot ride a horse. Also, I just learned that this challenge is ONLY 10 DAYS - not 30 days like it was in years past.

I still have the past challenges saved to my computer. I'm going to see if I can save them to GOOGLE somewhere and share the links to them here.

I tried to do this once...but I wasn't physically and mentally (depression) able to do it. I really want to try it again. I actually fizzled out after one day.

Okay, I started this challenge on the 30th but then got the flu and couldn't continue for a few days. I decided to wait until the new challenge materials had been released to begin again.

Well, today I received my first email and link to download the "workbook". After reviewing the first week, my opinion is that this newer version is NOT better and IS harder. So, my decision is to restart the OLD challenge on Monday - 2/20/17 and modify the cardio to my personal fitness level. Once complete, I may start the NEW challenge with modifications for my fitness level. I will continue to update my progress here on the forums.

Well, that didn't work! Started strong for the first 2 days, but put off the exercises Wed morning because of a headache - that turned into a nasty cold/flu. Still have fever & not feeling well this morning :( Now I think I'm going to put off re-starting the challenge until I get the new program materials.

Hello fellow riders. I wanted to start this thread to invite you to join this challenge. 30 days to becoming a better rider... No horse required! I have also posted this challenge in the Trail Riding for Fitness forums in hopes to get more people to try it. I plan to begin the challenge on Jan. 29, 2017 and finish by the end of February.
