DARPALMIERI

That is so true they bring out the best in us even when we are old and can't do what we use to do (like myself). I had an Appy but she died a few years back at the ripe old age of 36...do you know she barreled up until she was 35. She was my horse in her young years then became my kids learn to ride horse, and onto my grandkids learn to ride...and for the last 10 years, she was back barrel racing. She would fall asleep at waiting for the gate...when she was called to be in the hole....we would give her a gentle tug.....and wake her up...take her for a nice jog around a tree or trailer or whatever was at hand...when she circled an item she knew it was time and she snorted and ran into the ring...on perfect turns and slid to a stop at the out gate...we would hose her off and before you could tie her to the trailer she was back sleeping. Boy, could I tell some wonderful stories about her.

Glad to hear your hubby is doing well..thank the lord. Wish you both the best but then you have Dixie and she will service you well.

Hugs
Joanna

4. Find your horses ‘Favorite Scratching Spot’.

A lot of horses love to be scratched in a certain spot. Find that special spot. It is usually somewhere they can’t reach, like their withers, or the top of their neck. Looks for signs that you have found ‘The Spot’. These include eyes glazing over, a quivering lip or they may return the favor by scratching you. Research has shown that rubbing or scratching a horse on its withers has a calming effect. If you can find a spot your horse really loves then you can use this as a reward during training.

Sounds like a plan. Do you have horses of your own that your husband rides? If so how many?

I managed to get in 2 miles walking today with my granddaughter and I took the dog out on a mountain walk today for another 40 minutes. All in all a good day for walking.

OMGosh is there anything my pup doesn't like...she is such a needy dog. Poor girl still squats and pees when she gets excited about anything.

Find a treat your horse really likes.

This can be used for training, as a reward when they do something really well or just as a special treat because you love them.

Remember - bond with your pup for now.

I'm still trying to get out in the morning before going to work and work to visit with the horses! Muddy mess here right now... cold/ice n now melted n mushy... UGH!!!

On the lighter note - the dear husband was trying to get water for the well... ran the truck into his car on the side that doesn't have a dent... n ran into the barn door! Two dents in like minutes!!!! At least he didn't shove the door down!!! See what you're missing?

As for the soda... I'm with you on that one... I've limited myself to 1 16oz ... but can't get it up!

Hang out with your horse.

Sit in your horse’s pasture. No agenda. You might find that your horse will come over and stand near you and enjoy this ‘do nothing’ time. Take a book if you find it hard to just sit.

I am so with you on this challenge but I have to stick to taking a dog along for now. I am on winter break in Las Vegas and I left my horses back in Michigan for the time being. Great way to get started to get back to them through.

Bonding Time

Take your horse for a walk and explore the neighborhood. Let your horse graze, sniff and see new sights. In the wild horses travel vast distances and come across different things every day. Your horse will really enjoy exploring new places with you.
