Wendy, you did GREAT!
This is going to be my hard week...my Boyfriend's birthday is Friday and mine is Sunday. Thank goodness my brother doesn't live in town too, as his wife's is Saturday and his is next Wednesday!!!
I will take my BF to a steakhouse for dinner on Friday, then my mom is cooking for us on Sunday. Yipes!

I ate one plate of food and that was it. I had two bowls of salad (hours apart) and one piece of pie. I did drink water throughout the meal and the day.

I was asked if I wanted butterscotch pudding and said no thank you.

The big test for me is coming this Saturday night when we go to my husband's Christmas party at Landerhaven.

Don't forget, Turkey is super healthy for you, just be sure to take off the skin. And Gravy can be made pretty low cal by skimming off the fat from the pan drippings. Potatoes are good for you in moderation, they are FULL of minerals.

I actually had a Thanksgiving dinner with close friends yesterday. I ate a regular breakfast of oatmeal and a banana then went to the gym and did an hour of cardio. Our meal had a ton of fruit and veggie dishes so I filled up on those and some turkey. My dish I ate that was my cheat was a slice of homemade apple pie! I was full but I didn't feel like I ruined my diet after eating! I plan on spending a little extra time at them gym tonight to help work some of the pie off.

Meal planning and deciding what to eat ahead of time is what I'm going to try to do. As I'm planning our Thanksgiving meal, I'm trying to make old classics healthier and also trying to find new healthier recipes for sides and desserts.
Then, before my first bite, I'm going to try to plan exactly what I'm going to eat and how much.

In order to enjoy the festive foods, I'm going to try to be mindful of my eating. I'll do this by chewing slowly, enjoying every morsel, and putting my fork down in between bites. Hopefully, I'll make the most of my meal that way.

My fiance never gains any weight. At first, I thought it was because he was metabobilismically gifted, but then I realized: he eats his veggies first. Thanksgiving is great to have lots of veggies, so my plan is to fill half my plate with yummy veggies, then the rest of the stuff I love. After I eat the veggies (and begin working on digesting them), I can slowly move to the other, more caloric, stuff.

My gym will be open Thanksgiving Morning so I'll make sure I get in some extra cardio, then we will all go for a walk after the big meal.

Don't use the holiday's as an excuse to eat whatever you want for 6 weeks. Look at each day as a single day, enjoy and move on.

Thanksgiving is coming up soon, and then Hanukkah, Christmas, Yule, and Kwanzaa.

Please share with us your tips for planning for these feasting days! Here are some to check out too.

Thanksgiving Day DOs and DON'Ts

1. DO eat normally during the day. If you starve yourself, you'll eat way too much at dinner (an empty stomach often leads to overdoing it), and you'll probably go for the really bad stuff. So feed your head!

2. DON'T go straight for the dark meat. The lean, white meat turkey is where you'll get the most bang for your calorie buck. Dark meat has about 15% more calories and 30 - 40% more fat than light meat. And pull off that fatty skin while you're at it.

3. DO drink lots of water throughout the day AND during the big meal. If you're hydrated, you'll be less likely to make bad food choices. Plus it'll help you fill up faster.

4. DON'T deprive yourself of your favorite things. You know, the ones you dream of all year! If you skimp at the big meal, you could end up recklessly raiding the fridge for leftovers at midnight. Treat yourself, but just be smart about it.

5. DO start with a salad and/or some soup, and then fill your plate mostly with healthy sides and lots of lean meat. By the time you're done with that serving, you'll probably be too full to do serious damage with the more fattening extras.

6. DON'T bail on your regular workout routine just because it's a holiday, especially if you've got the day off. You're going to need that metabolism boost later. Can't squeeze in a whole workout? Just do SOMETHING, like take a brisk walk or volunteer to play with that hyper kid who's always making everyone crazy during dinner. (Note: Anyone spending the day cooking a whole feast is exempt!)

7. DO contribute to the meal! Bring along a guilt-free dish of your own, so you know at least one side that's safe to splurge on. Don't feel like cooking? Throw together a fresh fruit salad or just steam some veggies and drizzle 'em with low-cal vinaigrette. Mmmm, easy!
