Co-washing is a must! I do that twice a week and really shampoo every 2 weeks. Deep conditioners and hot oil treatments are also in my regimen. I sleep on silk or satin pillow cases and do not use heat on my hair very often. When I go swimming which is frequently, I cover my hair in a heavy conditioner.

One day at a time, one meal at a time, one pound at a time!

Having natural hair moisture is something that I have to stay on top off. I do not shampoo my hair I CO-WASH which is just cleansing with water and using conditioner. I also protect my hair with satin in everything my pillow, hats and caps. Taking a daily vitamins also helps.

Absolutely LARAE. Also keep in mind that because AA hair does not come out of the hair follicles straight, the natural scalp oils have a harder time getting to our ends. Toss in the fact that the shampoo ingredients tend to be to remove oil and you have the making for dry hair.

Platinum you just reminded me of something I used to do. I would wet my hair and instead of using shampoo I would just use conditioner as a shampoo. My hair felt better and still got cleaned. I found shampoo very drying to my hair.

I've never tried Carol's Daughter or WEN but I keep hearing great things about them.

You may also want to try using your shampoo a little differently. Instead of thinking about washing your hair, moisten your hair and apply your shampoo directly to the scalp -- actually your hair doesn't need that much washing, but your scalp needs to get cleaned.

If you are shampooing your hair twice, try shampooing only once.

Pre-condition before you wash. If you use a protein-based shampoo then pre-con and post-con with a moisturizing conditioner (or the reverse, if using a moisturizing shampoo, make sure you include a protein-based pre- and post-con).

If you try the WEN I would suggest using the Fig cleanser. I tried shampoos from Carol's Daughter and they left my hair feeling like straw. They are very stripping. Her hair butter, hair milk. And Jada's Duo are great moisturizers for dry hair.

Thanks for the tips. I was thinking I might need to switch my shampoo.

Your shampoo could also be a problem. I recently started using WEN Fig cleansing conditioner from tv and it does all it says and then some. I also use Carol's Daughter products, Jada's duo, hair milk, and hair butter. My is the healthiest its ever been. My ends are never dry anymore.

Does anyone have any tips on how to prevent dry hair besides grease? I find my ends get extremely dry and my scalp isn't. I've used pink oil moisturizer but it doesn't last long.
