Sounds like a great group in your home. We have a pride of ferrels at our house that we have had spayed and then they seem to become pets. Meet the car when coming home. Wake us up early for food. and be great little furry buddies. Then we have our little doggie poodle mix the owns the house and everyone

Keep on track

Lakeshore, It sounds like you had two very special dogs in your life. For all the little problems they cause dogs and cats give us so much in return. I always hope to have pets around me!

So glad to meet Buster. He sounds like a fantastic boy, and so glad to hear that he is doing so well at 16. You are so right, people without a pet don't know what they're missing.
I have 2 dogs, and 1 cat. Our other cat passed away last May.

You and Buster has a wonderful day. emoticon

Hello folks, my little boy Buster is going to be 16 years old this year. He is just as spry as he was when I got him. He is a black and white cutie with a little pink nose. He reminds me of the poem "Macavity: The Mystery Can" by T.S. Elliot. (when a crime is committed, he's not there). Buster has a white body with black spots. Two of those spots came together and formed a perfect heart on his left hip. I got him when my daughter got married and moved out taking her cat with her. Sandy my dog and best bud got so depressed I thought she would die. The vet said she needed a companion, hence enter Buster, a six week old darling. They became very good friends, playing with each other and chasing each other till the day Sandy passed away at 18 years old. They looked after each other, At first Sandy watched over Buster and cleaned his eyes & ears. Then when Sandy got old, Buster cleaned Sandy's eyes and ears. Now it is just me and the Buster. I have been so very blessed to have two pets who have given me such joy and happiness. I feel sorry for people who have never had a pet, for they do not know what joy they have missed out on and until they get themselves a companion they never will understand.

While the household here has 6 dogs and a cat, only 3 dogs and the cat belong to me. These are their short tales about how these 4 tails became part of my life.

I shall start with SC, the cat, as he is my oldest and he traveled across the country with me.
One bitter January afternoon a group of we student in a mid sized city in Michigan happened to be working in the theatre scene shop. As we had been painting he had the doors open to let fumes out, in walks this little, saw dust covered cat. We thought he couldn't be more than a kitten since he was so tiny looking. We fed him and cleaned him up and under the saw dust was a black cat with the biggest gold eyes. We didn't know what to do with him though. We couldn't keep him at the shop and none of us could take him. I tried calling my parents to get them to take him, they had just lost a cat the week before and at first my mother said hell no. What could we do? We let him wander the shop until he decided to disappear out the door again. Later that night my mother called me back while I was studying in my dorm and said fine, as long as I got him checked by a vet first. We spent several days looking for him and when we did find him he was curled up in the scene shop dumpster. I scheduled an appointment in my home town, loaded him into the car and took off. Did you know some cats are strong enough to hang by their claws temporarily? I didn't until that day. I had no carrier for him. I started the car and he flew up to the ceiling and clung for a moment before falling and curling up under the passenger seat. Turns out sweet little SC was 2 years old, fixed and perfectly healthy other than being way under fed. That's how he came to be my cat.
Cinnamon and Diesel, what can I say. Abused, malnourished, neglected. My future mother in law and my now ex future step-father in law found them when their parents owners were ready to dump them at the local shelter. These two pups would have been put down immediately. Both were terrified of people(Cinnamon still is). Diesel has made great strides while Cinnamon lags behind. It's alright, we love her anyways.
Twinkie, was originally not going to be my dog. I said NO, no, no, no, no, NO. We had just adopted Cinnamon and Diesel when a liter of pups was dropped at our door step. Covered in ticks and pooping sand. They were filthy. Mum(Future mother in law) decided to keep one of the girls(Reeses) to give to her daughter when she came out to visit for the summer. Twinkie was chosen to be given to ex future step-father in laws brother, who had just lost a dog. He fought it and fought it and then caved. The other 3 were de-ticked, and found good homes. Almost immediately ex future step-father in laws brother started ignoring the pup. She was his but only when he felt like it. Now Twinkie is a hyper active pup, she is big. We could tell at the time that she was going to get BIG and need A LOT of exercise. When it came time to get her shots, I did it. Time for her spay, I made the appointment and got her there. Mum decided at that point that Twinkie was mine. So much for no.
