Kids Teach Eye-Opening Lesson about Body Image

A group of adults and a group of kids were both asked one question: "If you could change one thing about your body, what would it be?" The answers differed a LOT between the two groups. Makes you think, doesn't it?

The beautiful children and their thoughts of what they would change made me cry. Cry because they are so pure and innocent, and therefore recognize their own perfection. Cry, because it won't be long before their "self love" will be stripped away by indoctrination of the societal standard of beauty. Cry, because they will soon become "us" though we will never again...Be them! Report

When as adults did we lose our imagination? The children's answers were magical, inspirational, and made me think differently how I might answer this question. We are so critical of ourselves and each other. Let us ignite our imaginations once again and envision a future of acceptance whether we have big ears or wings of an angel!! God made us in His image. What's not to love if it's from God? Enjoy a peaceful day, Sparkfriends! Report

This made me tear up, because every one of those people are beautiful. The man doesn't have big ears...the woman does't have a huge forehead....or fat cheeks....or whatever they were worried about. They were normal, beautiful. How sad that the cruel remarks of teasing and bullying in early years can affect us so strongly. I'm no exception--I will never see myself as attractive.

Loved the kids' answers! Very fun. Report

I don't worry about how I look to others, which is why, at 63 I have long hair I am letting grey, even tho my well-meaning (I hope) friends tell me how "great" I'd look with short hair and I should color the grey. I'd rather my degenerative spine disease was not happening. But I sure wish I'd thought like a child and had wings, to be able to ride the currents like the pelicans along the oceans bluffs, I'd love that! Report

The adults who would change one of their features amazed me. The woman with the "large forehead" DOESN'T have a large forehead. There is nothing wrong with the man's ears who said they were too big.
This amazes me. How do they see what they say they see when we can't see it? Do the taunts of children (who are going to find something to pick on each other about) stick with us forever? What a shame! The only thing I would change about my body is clean, new lungs (just getting over pneumonia). Anyone who doesn't like the way I look can just look the other way, HAHAHAHAH. I am HAPPY! I think it's important to learn to love your body. You are as God wanted you to be. He did not make a mess, so embrace who you are and love who you are! Report
