Look for:
turnips that are heavy for their size and still have fresh leaves attached if possible. Small to medium size turnips are sweetest.
Avoid:
turnips that are large, have soft spots, or leaf scars.

Storing Turnips
Turnips may become bitter with prolonged storage. Refrigerate in a plastic bag for use within 3 days.
Preparing Turnips
Both the root and the leaves of a turnip may be consumed. Before cooking turnips, wash and peel the skin with a vegetable peeler. Next, trim off the roots and greens.
