“Whatever you are doing, keep it up!” Those were the words of my rheumatologist 20+ years ago after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called ‘ankylosing spondylitis.’ X-rays revealed my spine to be 100% fused, with pain and stiffness.

I defied the doomsday diagnoses given by an orthopedist 35 years ago, “Be prepared to be disabled and in a wheelchair by the time you are in your forties!”

To that I replied, ‘NO I won't! So, in keeping with my rheumatologist’, I did what he recommended. I stayed mobile and kept moving! I am now 74 and worked full time, in very physically demanding job—and retired in my 70th year.

The awful prophecy did not come to pass, as the Dr. Grim said. I never made plans for anything but happiness and a fulfilled life—and that is what has come to pass!

I love retirement, except I found a new career which is writing! I have added Author to my nursing career. More below.

Sunday: Today is Jason’s 69th birthday. So, we’re just celebrating here @ home. Made waffles for breakfast (his request). Supper is going to be an Al Capone roast I got from the butcher. It is pork wrapped around pork sausage I believe there’s salami in there, and tenderloin w/mozzarella cheese. It is delicious. Never had it before this butcher introduced me to it. It’s a nice treat.

Otherwise, made chocolate cupcakes for him. That’s what he wanted. So there you have it. The party animals. Then he decided he wants blueberry muffins, so I bought his favorite. He decided he wants those tonight. Men, they change their minds, too!

Hugs and blessings on this Sunday.

Thank you for reading my blog and sharing your story.
One comment that I was meant to hear was at a Thanksgiving dinner when my aunt remarked to my mother that "Eileen got fat"
My response, looking around the table, "compared to whom"
She was absolutely right, but I wasn't ready to admit it.
No matter what advice we are given, how it is presented or by whom, we must be ready to do the work or change will not happen.
