After having three children in 5 1/2 years, I'm no longer willing to use pregnancies as an excuse for my weight gain. I'm taking control of my health and providing a good role model for my children.

Also, I hate the way I looked in every picture. When we returned from Disney in January I could not believe how bloated I looked, in the few pictures that I was in. That was my defining moment. If anything were to happen to me, I want my kids to have pictures of me, and I want to be healthy and happy in them!

Since February I have been going to the gym six days a week, doing cardio on all days and resistance training three days. I'm also using a personal trainer for the first time in my life. I bought a new road bike and have committed to doing a century ride at the end of the summer. I need a concrete goal to work toward. I can too easily be lulled into thinking that since my jeans are now big on me that it is fine. What I need is for them to fall off of me!

My kids know I go to the gym everyday after I drop them off at school. One boy says it is for me to become healthy and the other boy says it is so I can lose weight. They are both right. This is the beginning of a new, healthy, lifestyle for my kids and me.

Update 9/2010:
Wow, how life has changed! I met my goal weight in January, 2010. There are still another 5-10 pounds that I may try to lose someday, but right now they are not a priority. I ran two half marathons in the spring and rode Pelotonia, 100 miles to raise money for cancer research, in August and I've been training for my first full marathon in October. Physically, I know tha I have never been in better shape than I am right now. That is an exhilirating feeling!

The other changes in my life have been pretty special, too. This summer my husband decided to start working out at the gym and running a bit. He's up to a 5K and down at least 20 pounds! My kids have been there to see me finish virtually every big event and even my two-year-old daughter can identify whether I have been running or cycling by the clothes I'm wearing. This summer I had the wonderful experience of riding the bike trails with my boys; they ride like pros, shifting gears, making calls ("bike back," "walker up...") and drinking out of their water bottles! Fitness has become a way of life in our house. The nutrition certainly gets more thought than it used to, not that it was bad before, but we've improved it.

The initial goals were accomplished. Now we are on to setting bigger goals. In January, I plan to make my triumphant return to Disney World 80 pounds thinner and run the Goofy Challenge, the half marathon on Saturday and the full on Sunday! My husband and dad will be running the 5K. It truly will be a family event! I have the 30K for Just a Short Run in March, at least a half Ironman tri in the summer and a trip to Disneyland in the fall for a race to claim the Coast to Coast medal on the calendar, too.

My Program:
I train six days a week, a combination of swimming, running and cycling, in preparation for my first full Ironman in November (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run). I also log my food daily, except for when we go out for Mexican and margaritas!

Personal Information:
I live on the Northwest side of Columbus with my husband and three children, two boys and a girl. My degrees are in music and I sing in my church choir.
