Playing with my daughter was all of the exercise I started with, and it's still my favourite. Truthfully, I don't do a lot of structured exercise. I don't avoid opportunities to move more, and I look for opportunities to challenge myself physically, but I don't formally exercise because the stress it puts on my body spikes my cortisol levels, which in turn prevents weight loss. The harder I 'work-out' the less likely I am to lose any weight.
Hormones have a powerful impact on whether or not you lose weight, and hard-core exercise won't work for many people... often the more obese, the more it works against.
