I am in control of my destiny.
I have now turned 55 and am still hanging in there trying to stay healthy. Most days are completely pain free now. After years of struggling with hip and back pain I finally learned what causes it and what keeps it away. Hope to remain feeling good for years to come.

My History Here:
I first joined Sparkpeople in the Summer of 2010. I still have the Class of Team on my profile to remind me. These days I'm taking a different approach to SP. It seems to be working as I have no intention of giving up and quitting.
Instead I have the intention of changing the way I've been living my life for the better. I can either do that or continue to struggle to walk and be in constant pain for the rest of my life.
Waking up each morning I spend a few minutes thinking about what I will accomplish that day. Then I set about to seeing how much I can achieve.

My Goals:
My long term goal is to shed the 50 unwanted pounds I have accumulated. My ultimate goal is to take an after picture. I have umpteen before pictures I've taken over the years, never to have an after.
My Program:
My plan now consists of really watching what I put in my mouth and no making any excuses when it comes to exercising. I know that moving is what keeps me moving without pain. I am still doing Callanetics at times and DDP Yoga along with weights and walking/running for my Astros team challenge. I also still try too stay strong enough to walk my dog Bella. She's a big girl and very strong for her age, now almost 9! She and I have some of the same ailments with hip problems.
Personal Information:
I've struggled and tried to get back in shape for many years. I had real success about 7-8 years ago with the Bill Phillip's program which is why I keep coming back to it. I've added the Right Light back into my nutrition plan. After a period of trying to find the right eating plan, I am going to get back to what I know wrks for me. My struggles come from just giving up one day for no clear reason. I need to take a good an honest look at why I will give up even when I'm having success. I can see if I go 2-3 weeks where the scale won't budge! I have a lot of work to do and need all the support I can get. Thanks.
Other Information:
Before I wanted to get in shape to look good and well, now I'm older and sure I want to look better and have my clothes fit better an wear smaller sizes but these days my priority is managing my pain. I have arthritics in my lower back and both hips. There used to never be a day when I didn't have some pain somewhere. Now for the past few months I have finally began to feel much better. That sciatica nerve that used to leave me in debilitating pain has left and been gone for a good 2 months now. I can't tell you what a difference it makes not to have that nagging pain. I continue to read any articles or books I come across that address my issues of pain and I'll try the recommendations (if it doesn't sound too way out there). The lesson I learned about not laying around and resting because of pain has been a tremendous help.
