I count calories & log subtotal per meal in a ledger. I found that counting every 100 calories as " 1 " and making 16 my daily goal is a way to be hands on (paper & pen) active with my dieting/healthy choices while I prepare meals.

A typical day is 3.5 breakfast (approximately 350 calories) lunch and dinner each 5.5 (approximately 550 calories each) and a snack 1.5 (approximately 150 calories)

My ledger is a little notebook, very handy & nice to review
I noticed I make simpler food choices because of the math!
