    Happy New Year and congrats on taking the first step to reaching a healthier you! I'm glad you're getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.

    As for HCG, that plan has been around for many, many years - I know people who were on it 40 years ago!! It may work in the short term for some people but it does NOT work overall because everyone seems to gain it right back, even if they do lose at first - anything that promotes 'fast weight loss' is gear to short-term and can't be sustained overall.

    Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' there. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways - in fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!

    In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!


    If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.


    If you haven't discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.


    I also just discovered The Beck Diet Solution - there is a SparkTeam in support of it and that program also teaches how to 'talk back' to ourselves when we want to eat, even tho we're not hungry - you might want to check that out, too!!

    No matter what, another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

    Hi there. I'm not sure how long or how much weight you have lost or left to lose on hcg diet. so many reasons that you could be at a stand still. There is so much info. out there on this diet, plateaus, etc. I'm thinking that you've done steak days, apple days to try and break the standstill. sometimes meds have an effect. make sure you are getting enough water....try switching your big meal to earlier in the day. do more chicken and fish and eggs, skip the beef. Have your fruit in smoothie form, or cut back fruit to one or none/day...this always works for me. Too much veggies can occur easily! They add calories and carbs....hmm, if I think of anything else, I will surely let you know. Oh, are you taking enough hcg, or too much...this can have a profound effect. shots or sublingual, do you mix your own or use homeopathic. so much to know/learn as we go along our journey.     Welcome, Climber's Rock, to SparkPeople! You may want to try the SparkPeople meal plans or tracking your own choices within the limits SP sets for you. I tried hcg and didn't have much success. The two programs that work well for me are Weight Watchers and SparkPeople meal plans. Curves diet - the lower carb option -- is good for me for 3 days to break sugar cravings, and then I need to switch to the higher carb option. On South Beach I had limited success. I love The Beck Diet Solution, which works with any food plan you choose.

    The key to the whole thing, in my opinion, is to keep on trying. Never give up. Do one program and if that doesn't do it, do another.

    Never forget that one pound a week is 52 pounds in a year! I lost about 25 pounds at 1.5 pounds per week, then increased my intake to a more comfortable level and lost .5 pounds per week for 60 more weeks. It adds up. You learn more about how to eat when you lose it slowly. Your skin keeps up and sags less. You feel more energetic. I like the Slowest Loser concept. You may want to check out that team. -Marsha
