Hi everyone. I live in St. Joseph Michigan which is located on the southwest corner of the state. We have beautiful sunsets here as well as good amount of "Lake Effect" snow in the winter.

STATUS: In April of this year I lost my beautiful wife of 44 years. Diane fought a courageous battle with leg infections and other medical issues. The biggest issue was a butt wound caused by bed sore and ulcer. The infection finally got bad enough that she couldn't fight it anymore.

HEALTH: I want to lose weight to become more healthy. I am fairly healthy now but I realize I could benefit by losing 30 pounds to stat. I was 180 pounds in High School a weight that doctors have said is your optimum weight. I realize I will probably never get that low. One of my more comfortable weights was around 230 pounds. I am now at 325 pounds.

AGE: I am 70. My father's side of the family has a record of longevity, if you make it past the age of 49. (So far I am good.) My grandfather lived to be 96 and my dad is presently 100 and is currently living in an assisted living facility. I cannot visit due to the Virus. Last Thanksgiving he also lost his wife of 46 years.

SLEEP APNEA: I have had Sleep Apnea for 20+ years. It is caused by the fat in my neck. At one time I lost enough weight for it to go away then I gained the weight back. I would love to get off the C-PAP.

ENERGY: I would like to have more energy. My main summer activity seems to be trying to get rid of the Bermudagrass from the front garden, an impossible task.

MOTIVATION: I realize no one is going to lose weight for me. There is no one else to blame but me.
Despite my crabbing I do enjoy life, friends, and family. I enjoy being around people but also welcome the moments I have to myself.

OTHER PLEASURES: I enjoy planning Halloween activities. With the help of a friend I am working on a costume that should be awesome.

EXERCISE and DIET: I have tried many exercises videos.
I log my food on the Spark tracker and am usually close to my days requirements, sometimes over. I am trying to watch my food intake as well as my nutrition.

SUMMARY: I know if I want it to happen it must be up to me to make it happen. I don't blame anyone for my weight gain. It is my responsibility. I need to find the drive to limit my food and to be more active. Spark people are full of encouragement and support; that is why I like being a part of the team.

Personal Information:
I live in St. Joseph, Michigan. I have been married for 44 years to Diane, the most wonderful woman in the world. We have a grown son who is a machinist, also serving in the Michigan National Guard and a daughter who is a foster care social worker. We have twin boy grandsons, however, we don't get to see them very often.

    Good morning,

I am so sorry about your wife. I know you miss her dearly. I'm sure she would want you to do all you can to get yourself healthy, and coming back to SP is a good step. It is good to see you back here.

I've had ups and downs with my health and weight, but currently doing alright. I still have about 55 lbs left to lose to get to my goal for this year. I'm still working through all this pandemic almost as if nothing has happened.
I hope you're staying away from it all as best as you can.

    Welcome back, Dave!

    Hi Dave! Happy Halloween :)
It's great to hear from you. I understand about not finding the magic, that "click" into weight loss mode. It took me a while, but I'm in it again and have been doing pretty good, although it's slow going. Sparks does help some, but it's mostly just a mindset thing for me.

I'm glad to hear you're doing good. It's a long time before I get to officially retire... I wish it was sooner, I'd love to. I hope your wife is doing well, it's great that she has you to help take care of her.

Maybe I'll see you pop in a little more often?

Take care & have a wonderful week!!
