It has been a long, long time since I have Sparked (almost 3 years). In the meantime, I really, really 'let myself go'. At my worst (and it was my worst - believe me) I weighed in at a massive 346.7 pounds, my blood pressure was 220/100 - and I was, I'm sure, months (if not days) away from a major medical crisis - I was a walking health 'time bomb' (when I could walk - I didn't like walking even short distances).

At the beginning of July, some dear friends 'turned me on' to the Octavia 5&1 plan. Now, I'm not advertising for them in any way, BUT the plan has turned my life around. I am now at 243 pounds - that's right, I have lost 104 pounds and have regained my 'mojo'. Now, I have so much energy, I have to restrain myself from not working out too much and getting myself off track.

For many years I have heard the mantra 'you can't out-exercise a bad diet'. I heard it, but didn't internalize the truth of this statement. Now I know better. Exercise is important, for sure but the most important aspect of weight loss is what we eat - it took me a long, long time to really accept it. Now that I have, I am WELL on my way to my final goal, and am looking forward to next spring, when I can get back to all the fun things I am so used to doing. ONWARD!

My Goals:
- Lose 47 more pounds to get to a 'healthy BMI weight'
- Ensure that I change my eating habits forever to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Get back to a robust activity program, that has me exercising at least 5 days a week for 45 minutes or more.

My Program:
I hope to walk, swim, and hopefully return to cycling and a little weight training. But it was my passion for cycling that helped me shed 80 pounds, and I am going to try to return to what works.

I have learned that becoming healthy (and losing weight) is a holistic process of nutrition, hydration, exercise and sleep - but mostly nutrition.

Other Information:
I believe that learning to love yourself, love others, develop meaningful relationships, and laughing alot are the most important things in life.

Hang in there Dave! The loss is worth it.

I found out I have Type 2 Diabetes in January. The upside according to the Dr. is that I can control this with diet, exercise and medication. So far I have come down from 296 to 238 in weight. My blood sugar has come down from 500 in January to 140 presently. I have until May 9th to get it down to normal. And I exercise at the YMCA 4-5 times a week.

I feel so much better. Rather than feeling old and tired. I now feel my age and full of energy.

A word to the wise: watch you carbs and keep them low not your calories. Your calories will follow the low if you keep you carbs low.

Happy Easter ...too hard not to get excited about such a great day. emoticon

Wishing you only the greatest of everything. Hope this spring is the time to reach those goals, get closer or to start again. emoticon

Watch out because I am back and ready to run, walk, cycle and do whatever it takes to meet my goals. What about you?

I just came back a week ago after a one-year absence, so I know how hard it is to get that train moving again. But it feels so good to be back in control! Good for you - glad you are back at it!
