Hi! My name is Donna. I am happy to be here and sharing this journey. I want to create a healthier lifestyle for myself and my husband. And I want to lose weight so I can feel better about the way I look. AND I want to make life easier for my horse, she has to carry me around!

Update 18Feb2019
Wow, 10 years since I updated my page here. There have been a few blog posts in between though. See them for more info. Long story short: I kept the weight off for a long time. Never actually got to goal but I was pretty happy with my "Spark low". Some big life changes caused me to re-gain almost half of my loss, but I fought it off again. Two years ago major stress and depression hit and now I find myself starting all over again having gained basically all of it back. It's so much harder now to get back on a losing track. My job situation (hours, stress, commute etc.) are one problem. My age is another. I turned 60 years old 11 days ago. Yikes! Losing weight has _always_ been a struggle for me. Now it's worse than ever but I have to at least try.

Update 7/29/09
It's been a long time since I've updated my page. This is not a complete overhaul, but I do want to note that I've changed my weight ticker. I've been stuck for a long time and I've just finally lost a new pound this week after being on a plateau for over a year. Plus we now have a new scale that weighs me a bit heavier than the old scale. So in order not to get discouraged by the new, higher number and in order to reflect more accurately where I am right now and where I'm going, I've changed my ticker. I changed my weight to reflect the new scale but changed the ticker to "pounds lost" so as not to have to look at the depressing new, higher number. I have to keep my optimism to keep motivated, see?

Hopefully these kind of changes will make all the numbers and graphs and charts more accurate and more useful as I get serious about the big push to lose the last 15 pounds.

"Play your own game, keep your eyes on the prize and remember that the instant you respond to that player's stunts, you are then playing his game. You are no longer playing your own game and that can cost you in the long run."
-From XHASTEDMOMOF2's blog, she got it from an interview with a pro hockey coach.

I like this. I've been plateaued for a long time. Better that than gaining, but I DO want to reach my goal. I've got to focus and get the eating thing under tighter control. I've done things so far without a whole lot of sacrifice. But I've got to sacrifice some now in order to reach my goal. If I do that, I know I can reach my goal. I've got to make this _my_ game and stop letting stress and upsets and depression etc. sidetrack me from my goal.

Update 5/20/08
It's been a little over a year since I joined Spark. Though I have been on a plateau for several months now, I have still enjoyed greater success than I would've thought possible after my past attempts at weight loss. I am plateaued but maintaining and working to break through the plateau.

I am committed to my journey. I want to be my best, healthiest self and live my best life. I am on the path, I just have to keep walking. It may be hard sometimes but it is the right choice.

I love quotes and here are a few inspirational/motivational quotes from the "Mantra" thread to keep me going:

From Sparkpeople:
"Being overweight is hard, losing weight is hard, maintaining a healthy weight is hard. Choose your hard."

"If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking." -- Buddhist Proverb

"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." - Helen Keller

"Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn't have it in the beginning." - Mahatma Gandhi

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind, don't matter, and those who matter, don't mind" - Dr Seuss

My Goals:
I want to live a healthier lifestyle. And I want to reach a healthier weight.

My Program:
I am tracking my calories every day. Even before finding SP, I joined a gym so that I could get back into lifting weights in a way that I couldn't while working out at home. On days I don't go to the gym to lift weights, I go jogging. And I ride my horse as often as I can.

Personal Information:

Other Information:
I love cats and horses and being outdoors. My husband and I are also members of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.

Hi Donna. Yeah the past few days have been tough. This too shall pass...right? I think the boy comes home today. My celebration will not be cake. Maybe a nice swim tomorrow at the local pool. Best to you and thanks for the good wishes.
