I was having trouble in the beginning too with breathing and self-consciousness. I was really embarrassed by my size and overcompensated by running faster than my body and lungs could handle.

I had a long talk with a friend of mine one day about pace and realized that it doesn't matter how slow you go at a jog, you are still burning more calories than if you were walking. At that point, I fogot all about the people on the trail and slowed my jogging pace down. I told myself I wouldn't care if an 83 year old man jogged passed me ("Good for him!"), I would just focus on myself and, most importantly, my breathing!

Keep it slow. Focus on keeping your breathing slow and even. And remember, you are doing this for YOU, not for anyone else who may be watching.

I have only trying to run for couple month. I am doing the C25k too. But if I miss a day I feel like a real loser. I get so winded. I just don't think I am cut out for it. I want to but my body tells me otherwise. I also am having a hard time running in public. I do not want people watching me : ) Any suggestions?

Thanks for your comment. How long have you been running? Are you using any training programs or just getting out and running?

I tried just doing it on my own for years but could never get into the workout. I never enjoyed it, until I started c25k. I cannot remember a time when I could run for 30 minutes straight ever in my life. Now I can. It has been a struggle but I'm finally finding the joy in it. Just takes time and determination.

I know you can do it! emoticon
