Phase one of my journey began in December 2005. The first year I took a big step and decided to make some changes in my life. I started an exercise program. My goal was simple: for three days per week, for a minimum of 30 minutes I would move. This has become a habit and is now the foundation of my exercise program.

I also began to make some changes in my diet, making healthier choices; eating more vegetables and fruits, eliminating soda and sugary drinks and preparing more meals at home. These also have become lifestyle changes.

But even more important are the changes that I've made on the inside. As I began this journey, I met a wonderful group of women "The Consistent Divas" who are not afraid to tackle the difficult issues that for me resulted in the excess weight and the difficulty in letting it go.

Phase II of my story started in December 2007. I realized that I was ready to make even more changes.

At least I thought I was but what I realized is that the more I diet the more I weigh. At first I lose, very slowly and eventually I stall and finally I start to gain, ending up weighing more than when I started. This process tears me down and leaves me feeling like inadequate. Yet in other areas in my life, I am successful.

2008 proved to be an eye-opening year. I have learned a lot, cried a lot and gained 30 lbs. Yet I am not depressed, angry or feeling any of those negative emotions that used to come with weight gain. I feel very capable, calm and excited. The biggest lesson of the year: Trust Yourself. That's right I am learning to trust myself, trust my choices, trust my instincts, and I firmly believe that by doing so, I will achieve all my goals!
