I've been overweight since I was 5 years old. I'm 23 now and still overweight. I started January 10, 2009 at 272lbs. That's morbidly obese, folks! Ahh. When I heard that I felt awful... when you hear that term you think: I can't be. I can still walk, clothes fit me, I socialize, etc. When I picture morbidly obese I think about someone who is stuck in bed and can't leave the house.

My saving grace is that I am 5'9''. I wear a size 16 pants and a L-XL shirt (because my chest is well, not morbidly obese lol) People never believe I am as big as I am... which is nice, yet its also a curse. It allowed me to get this big because I thought "oh i'm not that bad if everyone thinks I'm smaller..." Lame-o! News flash! I am that bad, I am that BIG! I need to get this in check before I end up with diabetes. It's prominent in my family & I do not want to have to suffer from that....

So after years of crash dieting, I've finally learned that 2lbs a week is a real & sustainable weightloss goal. I've hooked myself up with a Doctor, a nutritionist and a fitness guru.... and they are teaching me the tools I need to get (AND KEEP!!) the weight off.

The most important thing I learned is to get
out of "diet-mode" if I want this to stick. I eat carbs *gasp*, I even eat chocolate and even ice cream. I just don't eat a whole tub anymore (lol sensible, huh!). I've made slow, yet positive changes, that have given me the confidence to carry this through.

The biggest changes I've made are:

1. I've stopped letting to scale rule me. I went from weighing myself every morning, to weighing myself every 2 weeks. My fitness trainer actually REMOVED my scale from my house & it was the smartest move yet. I had to stop focusing on the number & look at the small changes that were happening.

2. If I had an "off" day and made poor choices, instead of being myself up: I wake up and start all over. I've realized this is going to be a constant effort every day for the rest of my life. Ladies & gents: we are not on a diet. We can eat basically anything we want, just a heck of a lot less of it!

3. I do cardio 2-3 hours a day. This includes a Dance class, a spinning class or a bosu cardio class! I do strength training 3 times a week with my trainer. It's a little intense, but I've made this "journey" my full time job for the first 3-4 months. For so long I've been taking care of other people, now it's my turn!

4. I do not eat anything that comes from a package or that is pre-cooked, pre-seasoned or is processed. I also have eliminated fast food. If in a pinch, I will grab something from Subway though...

5. I've decided to love myself. I'm worth the effort & all the pain from the gym is worth it. I've lost 4 inches off my waist in 6 weeks!

My Goals:
My goal is to get down to 150lbs by Christmas 2009. I will acheive this by losing 2-2.5lbs a week.

In April 2009 I am scheduled to run a 10k. My trainer thinks I can do it in an 1hr 15 minutes. I'm hoping to prove him wrong and run it in an hour! lol

My Program:
1800 calories a day
Whole grains, veggies, fruit, smoothies, lean protein and no processed foods or diet pop. Oh & lots and lots of water. I'm drinking around 3-5L a day.

2 hours a day of cardio, 6 days a week.
3 strength training activities during the week.
2 hours a week doing an activity that isn't in the gym... eg. Basketball, Volleyball, kickboxing, etc.
