I am a 50+ wife, mother and Nana (Grandmother. I've always looked after the wellness and welfare of my family. Now it's my time to take care of me, even though it has come later in life for me.

The new year has come and I have come a long way. It has taken me a long time to become involved with life once again. For about 6-7 years I was unable to enjoy my life, my marriage and my family due to so many physical disabilities and medical problems.

My goal for this year is *Self-Discipline*. Self-Discipline in taking care of myself the right way and healthy way. I have to fight with myself on a lot of things because on top of everything else I deal with a lot of stress, anxiety and depression, all of which comes and goes. Some days are better than others and some moment are better than others. But this year I choose to *think and stay positive* as I make some major life adjustments and develop some significant habits to accommodate my health and wellness.

I am not good at setting goals and reaching them. I am not good at planning or executing my plans. (This is why I chose self-discipline to focus on this year.) I am very used to doing my own thing when I want too.

One of my dilemmas I'm dealing with now is "Diabetes". It's been a little less than a year since being diagnosed. I am currently on insulin which I chose because I really do hate pills and I take plenty already. Since being diagnosed, food has consumed my thinking about food has permeated and consumed my life right now..

I am one of those people who likes to enjoy what she eats. If I cannot enjoy my food I would rather not eat. So it has become imperative that I learn how to manage my diabetes with diet (and exercise.)

I went shopping with my husband and as I'm walking through the store I realized that I cannot think about food without thinking "diabetes". This sucks! But I must *accept the hard truth and reality* of my life and health, I cannot do what I used to do, but I must change, therefore creating a new me, inside and out.

I've listened and heard what others say I should be doing to help manage my diabetes, but what I have found out is that I must personalize my own meal plans, exercise routines and quality of life. So I have embarked on learning how to prepare foods that I don't particularly care for in a way that is tasty, flavorful and that "I CAN ENJOY!"

I am a very creative person and have gotten to a point now where I will experiment and try new things. So this year "I have planned not to allow diabetes to steal my joy of living and eating". (Again it comes down to self-discipline.)

Everything I do from here on out is for the purpose of improving my *Quality of Life*, which I've just been able to work at getting back to doing in Sept. of 2014. This year has given me a new lease on life and I intend on living and enjoying it to fullest as well as I can.

I will live every day as if it is the first day of my life or the last! (Glass half full or glass half empty? Which do your chose?)
