Greetings from the Pacific Northwest!

1. I am a Girl Scout. I volunteer with both adults and girls.
2. I love camping, nature, the great outdoors, the environment
3. I particulary love combining #1 and #2 - and get to several times a year.

1. I teach math to middle and high school students.
2. I adore both the students and the subject.
3. I teach reading and writing and study skills, too. But math is my favorite.

I joined Spark several years ago, and never really gave it a chance. My level of daily struggle with movement has `inspired me (well, frightened me, really) to make some healthier life choices - particularly around eating, movement, and stress.

I weigh more than I ever have, and more than I ever thought I could. Breaking the 300 pound mark in May sent me into a tailspin. I gave up all pretense of making healthy choices and ate and ate and ate. This lead to an increase in joint issues, which curbed my already sedatary lifestyle to one of almost complete inactivity.

Three weeks ago, my wife got a job with the YMCA. One of her benefits is a family membership. For the first time in years, I have free access to a swimming pool! This got me thinking how good I used to feel swimming, and how good it would feel to be moving vigerously without joint pain.

I am looking forward to more positive support and encouragement from other Spark members- and to offer support and encouragement as well. I know that this give and receive will be a valuable tool for me.

My Goals:
I feel like I want to make all the changes, right away! That is how I crashed and burned in the past. I am focusing on these 5 for now. I will re-evaluate them at the beginning of each month.

1. Check Spark daily!
2. Climb one flight of stairs without being out of breath at the top
3. Walk for 20 minutes before needing to stop and rest
4. Eat a healthful breakfast daily
5. Journal (either on paper or on-line) for at least 15 minutes / 5 times a week

My Program:
"Balance" is my Word of the Year. I don't always do a good (or even decent) job at it. I am working on it, though. And that is part of balance, after all. Allowing myself to make mistakes and to keep trying in spite of the mistakes. I am working on celebrating healthier choices, be them physical, mental, or emotional. I teach SMART goals with my students, and am finding they work well for me, too.

Personal Information:
My wife and I live in a cute little house in a friendly neighborhood with our aging kitty - who still thinks she's a kitten on ocassion.

I'm so tired, I thought your profile mentioned that you laugh at middle school kids. I was like, well... that's bold.
Anyway welcome back and welcome to team WA!

Hi--I have added you as a friend. I hope you don't mind. I would like to learn more about you and take this journey with you. I think we could support and motivate each other. I read your page and we have a lot in common. I was an accountant before becoming disabled. I was a girl scout.
