SWIM, BIKE, RUN......REPEAT!!!!!! Who would have ever guessed????? Me?????? A triathlete????

On Sunday, June 28, 2009, I became an IRON GIRL!!! YAY! I completed my second Sprint Triathlon and am SO PROUD of myself!!

On January 5, 2011, the BEST thing that has EVER happened to me....... the birth of my baby boy!! Being a new mommy, & full time RN, has certainly put a crunch on time for Triathlon training, but I am finally getting my "groove back", & am ready to pick up where I left off!!

I have made LIFELONG BEST FRIENDS, here, on Spark People!! Many, of whom, I have met, trained, & competed in races with! What a life changing, wonderful thing, spark people has been for me!! I hope you find it special for you too!!!

My story:

I found Spark after I got married August 2007. I am SO GLAD I did!!! This has been such a rewarding experience for me & it has changed my life!!! I have found so much support, knowledge, & motivation from so many wonderful new friends! It is the support & determination that I have always needed & now have!

I NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS thought that I would EVER start running.....or love it!!! I completed the C25K training, in Feb. 2008, and have NEVER looked back!!

On September 14, 2008, I completed my VERY FIRST SPRINT TRIATHLON!!! WOO HOO! I think I have finally found my niche!!! I had SO MUCH FUN training & doing the race!! I would encourage ANYONE to "Try a Tri!!!" What a RUSH!!!

***OFFICIAL Results of my 1st (of many) Triathlons! (Women's Sprint Triathlon, September 14, 2008)***

FINISH TIME: 1:48:38
SWIM TIME: 16:23 (1/2 mile)
SWIM RANK: 159/418
T1: 4:12
BIKE TIME: 46:52 (12 miles)
BIKE RANK: 302/ 418
T2: 1:54
RUN TIME: 39:20 (5K)
RUN RANK: 364 / 418 (ouch!! LOL!!)

Another HUGE challenge, that spark has helped me strive for & conquer is: I QUIT SMOKING!! YES! After 17 years of 1/2 to 1 pack per day smoking!! I finally QUIT!!!! YIPEE! I feel SO MUCH better & have my awesome sparkfriends to thank for all of their encouragement & support!

2008 Achievements & Successes:

January: Could barely run for more than a minute!!!
February 3: Started C2K Program!!
March 16: 1st 5K race - 32:52
May 4: 4 Mile Road Race - 44:50
May 18: 2nd 5K Race - 35:32
July 12: 3rd 5K Race - New PR!! - 31:00
August 15-17: 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk ~ 60 miles!!
September 14: Hartford Women's Triathalon ~ 1:48:38
Sept. 20 - Rock, run & roll 5K (4th 5K) ~ 31:48
Oct. 11 - Breast Cancer Awareness Ride ~ 25 mile cycle

2009 races:

March 15 - O'Hartford 5K ~ DONE!
June 28 - Aflac IronGirl Triathlon - DONE!
July 24 - 26 - Boston 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk (60 miles) - DONE!!

My Goals:
MY goal is to stop the Yo-Yo diet/weight loss pattern!! I want to reach my goal of 150 pounds & stay there for life! No more emotional eating!!! Drink my water!!! Stick to my EXERCISE PLAN!!! Strive to get the lean sexy body I have had before & want again!!

Stick to a CLEAN & healthy diet plan. As few processed foods as possible, whole grains, plenty of fruits & veggies, lots of fiber, lean proteins, NO high fructose corn syrup!!
NO partially hydrogenated oils!
Floss daily!

My Program:
Swimming 1 mile, 2 days a week.

Treadmill min. 3 - 6 miles, 2 days a week.

ST Program: Starting Chalene Extreme Nov. 14! WOOT!

Personal Information:
I am 42 years old. Have been married for almost 6 years, now. Hopelessly in love & happy! Having my son, 2 years ago, was the best thing I have ever done! I have never known love like this!! I live in New England, now, but was born & raised in Alabama. I am an ICU RN, for 19 years, now.

Other Information:
I like to sell stuff on ebay. I have a gorgeous Siberian Husky.

    I want to tell you a little bit about my recent history.
    I am a diabetic and I have been for many years. About 6 months ago I made up my mind to stop eating anything with sugar in it or that turned to sugar in my body. My goal was to keep my carbs under 30 to 20 grams a day and to get my A1C down from 8.5 to normal.

    On May 27th I saw my doctor and I got a message from him on May 29th telling me that he wanted to congratulate me on the enormous success demonstrated by my labs. You are no longer showing any evidence of diabetes, elevated liver enzymes, or elevated triglycerides. Your A1C is 5.0.

    I told you this to encourage you (not to brag) in hopes that it will help you, with whatever your health situation is.
