I use a Verizio Onetouch. It allows you to touch anywhere, not just fingers.
I was diagnosed in 2010 and was on Metformin for 16 mths. During that time I tested 3-5 times/day. I kept a food diary so I could see the correlation between blood sugar and what I ate.
Basically, for me, I cut out all the whites (flour, sugar, bread, processed foods, potatoes (white potatoes), pasta, rice (white rice) and processed foods.) That, combined w/exercise and using the Metformin, allowed me to get my blood sugar from 300 to a high of no more than 90 and low of 75. I still test first thing in the morning. It gives me an idea of how I need to plan my food for the day.
I do meal planning. Definitely helps. I have recipes I use all the time and my recipes have all the nutrition information I need.
I really eat low carb. I don't do keto. I just personally don't feel good after awhile on it. I would say that the closest nutrition plan that describes how I eat is low carb Mediterranean.

Hahahaha! A sled Spark gift! You are SO sweet! We actually talked about getting some cardboard for “sledding” down one son’s street in Austin (which is quite hilly) but then discarded the idea because of the length and elevation of the hill.... snow is a fleeting thrill here for sure 7 days ago
