I am a hardworking career woman. The walker/feeder of the furry minions that rule my house. A knitting fanatic. A book lover. Sarcastic. Silly. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early twenties and hit 300 pounds by the time I was 21 years old. It took me a few years of research and finding a good doctor to figure out how to lose weight with PCOS and insulin resistance but here I am doing it. The number on the scale doesn't concern me as much as how I feel every day. I just want to be healthy and get rid of my PCOS symptoms!!

My Goals:
Mud Run

To get below 300 pounds- Done 8/15

Run a 5k- Training

To get below 230 pounds in order to take horse riding lessons again- In Progress

To gain muscle definition- in progress

To get better control over my PCOS- in progress

To get stronger at hikes and increase my mileage this summer-Just hiked 5 miles of all uphill terrain in March of 2015.

To walk over 30 miles in one month- DONE! 11/2014.. 31 miles!

To buy a bathing suit in June that I feel good in- DONE! 7/2014 Feel great in my high waisted two piece!

Quit smoking- Accomplished 10/5/2013

To walk a 5k- Color Run 8/2014

My Program:

I am eating low carb because it works well with my condition. This means mostly lean meats and vegetables. No sugar. Very little dairy.


Right now I am doing 3-4 days of strength training because I love strength training!!

I am also going to start incorporating 3-4 days of run training into my exercise program.

I play tennis and hike whenever I have time as well for fun!!

    I ran across your page from a PCOS spark team and checked out your blog. Hope you don't me adding you as a friend--looks like we have some of the same goals! I think the worst thing about PCOS is the fertility issues. We've done some some fertility treatments (clomid/injections/iui) but for now I'm focusing on losing weight before doing anymore. Good luck to you on your journey!

    I have learned so much from Richard Bernstein M.D. who wrote "the Diabetes Solution" on Insulin Resistance. He has a complete chapter on PCOS in his book (I got it at the library) and he has excerpts of the book on his web site. Dr. Bernstein sees 95% of his patients with Type 2 diabetes and 5% with Type 1 like he has. Yes, he has had diabetes since he was 12 and he is a healthy 78 now. He has a series of 18 lectures on YouTube that are very good.
