I am 62 and widowed.. I quit smoking (cold turkey) 13 months ago.. Now I beat that all my attention can be on getting healthier.. I have 6 grandchildren and I have a great grand girl. I need to lose at least 100 lbs. I come from a family of large boned over weight people. My mother & Father were raised on the farm so every meal was a big meal with lots of calories. Bisquits and gravy, Fried chicken and Pork chops etc. I was the skinny child (of five) until I was 19. I have been up and down the scale several times. One of those times is when I was divorced in 1978. I lost 53 lbs, in 3 months. I didn't eat but once a day. How silly was that. I started to gain the weight back a few years later until here I am today at 255 lbs. People say that I don't look that fat. I am not really concerned about my looks as much as my health. I have just been diagnosed with Celiac disease and diabetes... . I have had major stomach problems for about 5 years. I am tired all the time and I have skin issues on occasion. All my children are grown. I have lost two siblings too soon due to health issues. I am looking forward to the day when I can change my current picture with a much thinner and healthier me. I feel very good about SP and I am confident that I can change my lifestyle and reach my goals to lose weight and be GF.

My Program:
I have omitted all wheat/gluten from my diet. I am doing low carb much like South beach diet but with my own twist. I am diabetic so this suits me.

I am from Carlsbad, New Mexico.


Other Information:
I want to get healthy so I can travel with my husband.

    You will find that when you remove flour and sugar from your eating than you will find that you will feel better but first you may feel terrible but once it works out of your system you will feel and see the difference about the way you feel and how much energy you will have and when you eat it you will see how much it makes you tired too. If you have any ?'s you can sparks me and I will try to answer them.

    Welcome to GF and Healthy LouLou. I'm both sorry and glad you were (finally?) diagnosed with celiac. If you haven't read the book, I would highly suggest you get: Living Gluten-Free for Dummies by Danna Korn. It's very comprehensive and a good reference. Before you know it, you'll be eyeing others in your life and telling them the benefits of gf lifestyle. :) I wish you well my SP friend!
