Had struggled with weight my whole adult life losing 50 - 70 lbs but slowing gaining it back. In Oct 2011 I decided to really pay attention to what I was tracking and eat better. I also saw a hypnotist who helped me. Slowly started losing weight and then in March 2012 bought a pedometer and started walking 10,000 steps/day. I reached my initial goal in Oct 2012 but kept eating the same way and moving more and lost another 30 some pounds.

I reached my initial goal in Oct 2012 but kept eating the same way and moving more and lost another 30 some pounds.
In Feb. 2013 I had a heart attack. Yikes! I had already lost 50 pounds, changed my diet so I was eating more healthy and I was moving every day. No history of heart disease in my family and the only risk factor was being a woman over 60. What a wake up call.
My cardiologist wanted me to go to cardiac rehab and I started that going three times/week and doing cardio + weights. I got hooked and now in addition to walking 6 out of 7 days/week go to the gym. Within 8 months of the heart attack I'd lose a total of 80 some lbs.
My eating plan is basically to eat real foods, lots of plants, and pay attention to portions. I hit my goal final weight in April 2013 and continued to slowly lose. Now maintaining within a 2 - 4 pound range. Maintaining my health is my primary motivation now. And happy to say that I've been at or under my goal for over 5 years and this is a first.
Exercise is a regular and enjoyable part of every day. Not only going to the gym, but finding ways to get in some extra walking.
Update 9/3/2020
What a year! In January we headed to Florida for several months to stay in our new house. Ended up staying longer because of Covid. Since everything was closed we walked all the time and not only did we lose weight, but so did out dog! Hit my 7 year anniversary of maintenance and feel great.
Back in NY and our first item was cleaning out our lake house which we sold. The end of an era; 20 wonderful years and many new friends. Now we can enjoy our NY home which we are.
Gyms are opening and I'm back at our small fitness center. Continuing to track my food which works! Getting in lots of steps and started back with personal training. This healthy living is the best!

My Goals:
I've lost 80 some pounds and want to maintain that loss for life. What thrills me is that this is the first time I've lost weight and kept it off for over 5 years! Every day I learn more about how to live a healthy life.
My Program:
I focus on eating real food, more plants and less of it every day. Make healthy choices most of the time. I track my food daily and I commit to moving every day. In addition to walking at least 10,000 steps/day I get to the gym for cardio + strength and I do barre classes and yoga too. Joined a new gym in January 2017 and loving the new options.
Personal Information:
I live in Westchester Country, NY.
Other Information:
In October I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and earned my health coach certification in Sept 2015. Not only does this keep me motivated and intellectually challenged, but it will help me to help others.
