I am a Catholic homeschooling mom of three beautiful kids - well, not homeschooling anymore. I was. My baby, Danny, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma (brain cancer) in March of 2013. Since then he underwent two brain surgeries, six weeks of radiation, and over a year of chemotherapy. He was in remission for a few brief months, and then relapsed. Next he had another brain surgery and then completed a year of very difficult chemotherapy, with multiple nasty side effects. After that year, he had three blessed, beautiful years of no evidence of cancer. That ended on March 15, 2019, when he had a seizure at school, which led to a diagnosis of relapsed, inoperable, terminal cancer. That relapse, in early 2019, was successfully treated with chemo that made the cancer disappear. It bought us a year of grace. That year ended in February of 2020, when an MRI showed that the cancer was back. There was really no treatment possible. My beautiful, beloved son Danny died of brain cancer on April 17, 2020, at home, holding his big brother's hand. He was 19 years old.

"If you get there before I do
Don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through.
I don't know how long I'll be
But I'm not gonna let you down.
Danny wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again I'll be loving you.
Love, Me."

My Goals:
Right now my goals are to incorporate small healthy changes. One other goal is to be able to exercise without severe pain in my hip...not sure if that is feasible with my arthritis.

My Program:
I am trying to eat more fruits and vegetables, plus walking as much as I can without pain.

Personal Information:
I am originally an Army brat and have lived in quite a few places. Currently I am in Texas. I have three kids, ages 30, 27, and forever 19. My degrees are in chemistry, but in late years I have mostly been employed in child care.

Other Information:
Strength of character isn't always about how much you can handle before you break, it's also about how much you can handle after you've broken.

Yep, that was my recipe. Glad your dd enjoyed it! I didn't do much holiday baking this year...being on my feet at work 45 hours/ week pretty much took the wind outta those sails. Are you still working at the church?

Thanks for the goodie! Danny is young and so he's got resilience on his side. And he's witty, which means he's intelligent on a higher level. Plus, you have to admit, he's got good genes for brains! And remember IQ tests don't always tell the whole story. He's a kid..he likes what he likes and he's interested in what he's interested in. And the things we like and are interested in are the areas where we excel. The stuff we don't like or particularly care about, well, meh. It doesn't mean we CAN'T learn that stuff- it just means that maybe we're not interested in it right now. When it comes to intelligence, Danny will be just fine. Just keep that young brain stimulated with your great home schooling skills!

Hey, it's great to reconnect with you! I re-added you as a friend since I have a new account. You can re-add me too if you want to see all the latest and greatest clean humor I manage to dig up for SP. Half the time I can't remember if I've already posted something before or not so don't be surprised if you see an occasional repeat. ;) Hope you had a nice Christmas and have a happy 2014!

Oh Mary Jean thanks for stopping by my blog yes that made Mom's day also. I know I go over board, but I am able to do it for Mom. I always like to surprise Mom. Today we spent the entire day shopping for the big sales, but the one thing we both love to do is sit down & have lunch together or dinner ,even if it is just a sandwich and a cup of coffee. Mom is 84 and I want our time together to stretch as far as a giant rubberband!!!!
