Well, I'm starting over, basically. I let too many things get in the way of my health. And I aim to change that.

The story:
Started working out my senior year of college. The gym was literally across the street, so I made myself start going. My goal was to familiarize myself with the equipment, and to try to lose weight. Took a weight training class, too! However, at this time, I knew nothing about nutrition, how to really work out to see benefits, etc. But it was a start nonetheless.

Started losing weight in 2005, after graduating from college. Lost about 20 pounds on Weight Watchers, then plateaued for almost a year. Began a new [desk] job, and was still stuck. Didn't gain anything, though, which was nice.

I joined Sparkpeople later that year (2006), and lost about another 10 pounds over the course of a few months. I was working full-time, as well as a part-time job one weekend-day per week. And OH! I also began classes for grad school. Maintained my total loss of 30 pounds for about a year.

Things got busier for me, and I slowly stopped focusing on myself, my health, etc. I started to gain the weight back.

Fast forward to last year. I bought a condo, started a different part-time job working MANY more hours (and I happen to LOVE LOVE LOVE this job and am very happy there), got more intense in my studies, all in addition to my full-time job...I ended up almost back where I had started in 2005. I gained all but 3 pounds back.

So, hi, now. I'm basically starting over. Initially, was out to lose about 80 pounds. So that's what I'm out to do.

My kick in the butt was in August 2010, when I went on vacation, and realized the possibilities out there for me. How funny that while on vacation, I was thinking about my future CAREER (hello, Earth to me, RELAX for a minute!). In my defense, a happy, fulfilling, successful career = a happy, fulfilling, amazing life will be possible.

I bought new journals while there, and in them started planning each week, each day...started with just what days to work out, and when. I went along for a few weeks, and didn't see much change in my weight, but my habits were being reshaped.

About one week into September, I started getting serious. Started sticking to my schedule. Meeting my workout goals. Still working on everything (we're all always a work in progress), but I'm noticing growing success with each day, whether it be on the scale, or just knowing that I made the right decision.

I'm slowly learning to make time for myself, and to PLAN for as much as possible. I know that I have control over my health, my life, my future.

I intend to be the best I can, in everything I seek to accomplish.
